Nothing irks me more than entitled guests demanding to check in early to more than two rooms because, "wE hAvE a WeDdInG tO gEt ReAdY fOr!!!!!!!!!!" then maybe you should have booked reservations for the night before if you KNOW check in for the hotel isn't until 3pm and the wedding is....also at 3pm. :) hope this helps!
LOL NO NOT REALLY BECAUSE I CAN'T PULL CLEAN/READY ROOMS OUT OF MY ASS NOW CAN I???!!!!
THIS!!!!!☝️
Why would a member book through an OTA?!
It happens A LOT. They also get mad when they don't get credit for the stay.
So bizarre, I haven’t worked at a branded since OTAs really took off; but even when I book—there’s an app for that.
Normal baseline entitlement + Early check in entitlement + wedding diva or boomers = a miserable level of pain.
Im sorry. It's the devil's equation.
It's okay to ask (which at my hotel is silly because we text you when it's ready), but the people who get rude because they can't check in at 9am is ridiculous. At this point I'm about to just start making keys to dirty rooms and say "figure it out yourself then"
Not gonna lie this would be an awesome option for people who don't care about it being cleaned first and are just needing the room asap. I would take it every time.
Im pretty easy going myself... but Im not sure I could just blindly start checking into uncleaned hotels... aint noooo tellin what went on. 😅
That's pretty nasty.
Why? Check in is between 3/4PM, rooms shouldn’t be “dirty” at 7PM if the room is reserved. That’s fcked up of you.
Its a NIGHTMARE for housekeeping. You're just working away on a room only to be told "theres people waiting at reception" BEFORE 12pm
I like to let them know we have bathrooms around the corner that they are welcome to use.
We tried that for my sister's wedding, and clearly called and asked if we could get a room the night before and pay for it, but we wouldn't actually be using it until early the following day. Despite us calling the hotel and getting the ok, they gave away our room. Luckily they had one available early, a suite, which they gave to us for the same price as the regular we booked.
Did no one ever go check the room in?
We weren't in the area yet, so we couldn't check in. That is why we called to be sure they would save it for us.
You need to call and check in. They gave it away because you were a no-show. Hotels will sell a room if Noone claims it. To explain it another way,if I am selling an item and you say you will be there at 9pm to get it and don't show up... I'm going to sell it to the next person that wants it.
We had called the hotel saying we needed a room early the following morning, can we book a hotel room for tonight that would not be used until the morning? They said yes, so we booked the room, and then got busy dealing with wedding stuff and assumed it was all set. Despite this phone call they gave away our room. How is that right?
Yup, the evening/night shift saw it wasn't claimed and sold it.
I know it sucks, but it happens way too often. Even at bigger hotels there are only 3 shifts. And the shift change is usuailly just saying "hi" and that's all you have time for. Information doesn't get passed on.
Why? I'm asking because this was almost done to me. You have my credit card, so if I don't show up, you can charge my card. Do they get paid twice for one room?
Yes, if you reserve a room and do not show, you will get charged for it (or whatever they charge for a no-show) and if they can sell it and put people in it they will. That's why if you are going to be late, make sure to call, and if you are going to be even later call again.
Yup it is OFFICIALLY wedding and graduation season. Yea for us at the front desk....😔
So far they've been nice to me, but the season just started, so I know what's coming...
Oh yes... sending you good vibes fellow soldier! lol
And cruise season 😭😥😭😭
Had a guest come and try to check in at 8 am. FDA told them no, it was too early, we had nothing. He goes, "BUT I HAVE FIVE ROOMS!" Okay, and? What do you want, a cookie?
And those 5 rooms still have people sleeping or showering in them.
Executive Housekeeper here, i would be in the back office getting the boards ready for the day and hear tge front desk agents deal with this. You couldn't pay me enough to work front desk.
I work breakfast and they deal with so much bs it's unreal.
"But I'm a diamond member!" You can almost hear the collective thought bubbles "who gives a shit".
Like check in is at 3 pm. This isn't a 2 for 1 special.
Yeah. Hard to not say "Cool. Me too." Literally half the staff are Gold and Diamond members. We're not impressed.
Yeah but breakfast is no joke either. I don't have the patience to not yell at people to move out of the way so I can do my job.
It gets to me sometimes. Literally, I have had to stand there and stare at people with my cart with food on it so I can fill up the buffet because they won't fucking move. They look at me, see the food, and then just keep on keeping on like I don't matter.
Yes! I've only had to cover it a couple times due to call outs and I can't see how you guys do it every day without screaming! Loads of respect for ya.
I can't speak for bigger hotels (we're only about 121 rooms), but it has its days for sure. Thank you.
I would rather clean than do the front desk. At least the duster won't yell at you.
I overheard a similar conversation last week. Even if rhe rooms were vacant but dirty, our housekeeping staff don't start work until 9:00 am
‘Tis the season! The property I work on also has three wedding/reception venues. This means that often, three wedding parties worth of rooms will be rented to these events, which will all happen on the same day and possibly at the same time. Guess who is not getting an early check in? Three wedding parties worth of guests who all need to be ready for their ceremonies by 3PM.
Book and check in the day before if you are going to need your hotel room at 10AM to start getting ready.
You poor, poor dear.
Edit: I realized that could have sounded sarcastic and it absolutely wasn't. Wishing you well.
We had someone start calling at 6:52am for an early check in recently. We are on an island, you have to take a ferry to get here, yet the amount of people that show up between 10am and 12pm and “just want to check” if they can check in—-idk why it’s my biggest pet peeve.
This is one reason why I would rather clean toilets than work front desk.
We started early check in fees of $30 to $50 and lot of time people say. I will go eat lunch for couple hours rather then be in room. So you not denying it and may give you more money. But it’s depends on how many rooms. If someone wants 10 rooms, we deny it.
Sounds like a conversation for your manager to have with Sales, Catering and Reservations about better communicating expectations to guests.
Why does everyone think Sales sells every single room 🤷🏻♀️. Sales is just top line. Transient and OTAs make up the bulk, usually.
I read this as the room being part of a courtesy wedding room block which would have been sold locally and likely confirmed via the hotel’s in-house staff. Also, a hotel with a properly executed sales strategy shouldn’t being filling up transient rooms via OTAs- that’s typically a really expensive channel with low rates.
I wish the times would change tho it’s so frustrating that checkout is so early and check in is so late in the day like. I want to leave my house early and arrive at a decent time but instead. I have to piddle around town for hours until I can actually go to the hotel which waste my time and money 😩
(But I do understand the extra day in advance I just hate the system lol)
Housekeeping needs time to prep the rooms for the check ins. That's the reason for the gap.
Omg yes. I had someone who booked thru a third party that messaged a request of a very early check in and very late checkout. I stated everything is subject to availability but the latest checkout we can provide is 1pm and earliest check in is 1pm. They responded, "OH I guess it doesn't matter being a member anymore." Brother.
