With the HB F4 we can finally let those two beasts battle again.

Everyone is talking about the F4, but the mig21...
DCSI've had it since the beginning but haven't really flown it in forever -- is there stuff about it that needs fixing?
Its radar model is very primitive even by non-HB/Raz standards and is going to overperform compared to the Phantom's and its outer envelope flight performance (especially at low speeds) is a little wonky. It's not "overpowered" or anything but like the radar it's a product of a simpler time and less intense scrutiny by the community. I don't know that I'd qualify most of the module as needing "fixing" so much as just the general overhaul and polish up to modern standards that Magnitude 3 have said they want to do after the F4U is stable and in practice is never going to happen.
Man M3 saying they’ll polish after the F4U is such bullshit. The MiG-21 could’ve used a facelift years ago. I’m tired of so many DCS devs not giving a shit about what they’ve already released
No doubt it would have been wise timing to touch up the Mig before the Phantom comes out.
But after having sunk a few years of work into the Corsair, they are probably interested in getting paid for all that time... as anyone would be.
I honestly wouldn't mind paying for an update of the Mig-21 as been its so long since its out (Black Shark style). Doubly so if they could throw in a variant or 2.
Same goes for the F-5E as well.
How much is that even gonna set it behind tho? Like it’s all conjecture but the biggest complaints have been textures and radar.
Either way, the MiG-21 has been out for like ten years now. It should’ve been fixed at any point.
It's basically an official FC3 mod. The Grom missiles (that it shouldn't even be able to use) are guided by the radar and the radar could (don't know if this has been fixed) trigger laser warnings, indicating that it's essentially working as a laser under the hood when guiding the missile. The popular theory is that it's essentially a reskinned Shkval in this scenario and the Grom missiles are remodelled Vhkirs that are flying as a laser beam rider.
It also has CCIP for bombs, something it never had, the gunsight has plenty of nuance and depth that it doesn't simulate, RSBN functionality is simplified and the autopilot is missing quite a few functions as well.
MiG-21 did have CCIP for bombs actually. . .
just, very shitty and only really usable on flat surfaces. . .because it used Pythagoras to estimate impact, same system the Hind uses actually.
According to people who are much more knowledgable about the Mig-21 and who described the current issues with the ASP-21, it does not use CCIP for bombs.

Do you have some original sources that would indicate otherwise?
I heard it second hand from a friend who's an enthusiast of eastern aircraft (particularly the MiG-21 and Hind)
I don't remember what source he referenced sadly, I'll see if I can ask him.
I see, thanks.
always remember, is not about the plane is about the pilot
Oh, it very much is about the plane. And the pilot. And the missiles.
All of them matter.
T h e m a n i n t h e B O X
It’s not the plane you fly, it’s the pilot that’s flying the plane that’s doing the flying.
And soon my 4k remodel of the cockpit will be done as well. Hopefully in time, but maybe a little behind the F4 release.
I hope so
Ohhhh yes please
This damn power outage in TX is t helping progress tonight lol
Just like in Vietnam! I already have the Mig-21 and the Phantome will make a fine addition to my collection
I’m just worried about Heat Blur being able to make a fucking dollar from ED. How the fuck can I reliably buy a third party product at this point without worrying about it dying through discontinued support?
A gentle reminder that the elderly DCS MiG-21bis is the first third party module ever produced and has largely not been updated since being accepted as more or less finished. Have modest expectations for PvP.
