Found this at a thrift store for $1. Anyone ever seen it?
DiscussionWild how quickly she just became the Queen in my mind. Rewatching Harry potter is weird cause all I see is Lizzy
She has done such an amazing job as the Queen too. First ten second, I was like "oh, Umbridge?" and quickly forgot all about umbridge.
I forgot up until the tea with William scene. As a commenter on YouTube put it, "tea with Umbridge is never a good time" lol
We need Queen Dolores crossover fanfic.
It would be super dark.
Now I know why it was a dollar
In the run-up to the exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic, JK Rowling ventures behind the scenes of the British Library, revealing the real-life counterparts to her fantastical world. From shrieking mandrakes and Elizabethan invisibility spells to the mystery of ancient Chinese oracle bones and the real life search for the Philosopher's Stone, it is the start of a warm, playful and inventive journey round some of the most magical places in the land - from wizarding wandmakers in the English forest to the beguiling witchcraft of Boscastle, Cornwall.
The film features readings by actors from the Harry Potter films, including David Thewlis, Evanna Lynch, Warwick Davis, Miriam Margolyes and Mark Williams, while Rowling's illustrator Jim Kay illuminates her imaginary world. Narrated by Imelda Staunton
It's a nice little documentary. Well worth a dollar. Good find.
I saw it on TV, must have been quite a few years ago though.
I saw it on reddit, someone found it at a thrift store for $1.
Flair checks out
Narrated... by Umbridge? I'm conflicted.
Hate the character not the actor
Either way, I hope ot starts with a "Hem hem."
And ends with “I must not tell lies”. Maybe even works in an “ENOUGH!” In there somewhere.
She narrates it like speaking to Hagrid during his review.
Hate that you had to mention that. Not as in, you should not have said that, rather as in, it's sad people have to be reminded that character =/= actor.
Well, but I kind of agree. if she would narrate it in-character (umbridge) it would be kind of weird, but also very interesting. I don't believe I've seen it, but she probably narrates it like a neutral narrator?
I know an actor is good when their performance makes me hate them personally. Lol like I have to take a step back and remember that's their job
I’ve listened to the audiobook, I didn’t realize there was a video version!
The audiobook and the video are different things. Though they are both tie in products to the same exhibition.
Got this for my wife years ago. It was around $40 at the time.
I think I actually had this when a young kid and I’d completely forgotten.
I had no idea that this existed! I now have a new mission to find it lol.
You may want to check online. I feel like DVDs are now old enough, there’s probably no stores with a shipment of it coming in. After all, I found that one at a thrift store.
There's quite a few copies on eBay, I bought myself one this morning after initially seeing this post :)
WOW what a find!!!!
I have and loved it! Enjoy!!
The fact this is from the BBC, a publicly funded and government owned/operated organization is just... immaculate. Even the crown has recognized. Sir Harry Potter. Which raises the question, why is it not Sir Daniel Radcliffe ??!
It’s only a matter of time. I believe Dan will eventually be knighted.
no, what is inside???
A case with a disc.
Havent seen it before, but please show me some of the pages.
It’s not a book
Yea, i see now, its a dvd
Narrated by Imelda Staunton
Oh... oh dear...
I have a copy, in considerably better condition. Haven’t had the time to sit down and read it cover to cover, but I’ve skimmed it a bit. There’s some interesting things in it, and fantastic artwork.
It’s not a book
Oh. Well, I have a book version. And everything I said before.
I have the book version!
Yes, I have a hardback copy of this book. I really enjoyed it, loads of beautiful illustrations and annotations from JK Rowling, as well as lots of interesting information about the inspiration behind aspects of the story. Well worth that price, I’d say!
Sorry, just realised that what you’re referring to is a DVD and not a book. Sorry! I have the book version then.
Arh I remember when this was on tv. Was an interesting watch.
Its also available for £2.50 on Apple TV, there is also another Harry Potter a history of magic documentary but it focuses on the British library expo think it’s got art detective in the title
Yes, I saw the exhibition! It was pretty epic. I’m interested in occultism aside from Harry Potter, so it was really cool to see artifacts related to it, and the Harry Potter presentation made it fun. I’ve since seen The Ripley Scroll a second time, so, that’s fun.
Yes! My friend gifted me a copy for Christmas a few years ago.
We watched this on Vudu. Nice little documentary.
A History of Magic narrated by Umbridge herself. A bit odd.
She’s going to leave out Voldemort/Death Eaters and then call anyone who challenges it a liar.
Chapter 22: The Boy Who Lied
I must not tell lives
Wizarding world equivalent of crying out “fake news”
You better put that in a bulletproff glass case 💎
I want that book
I know. But imagine actually having the History of Magic book that Hermione always quotes. I would love the read that one, and I may have missunderstood you (if so, sorry), but I thought that was what you reffered to.
It’s not a book. What I bought isn’t anyways.
No?
It’s a pretty enjoyable read, Staunton is a good narrator, I assume the visuals are just going to be pretty basic illustrations, but sounds like it could be fun. And since you’re buying it at a thrift store, Rowling doesn’t make any money off of it. Call it a win-win.
I know it’s also a book, but this is a DVD lol
That’s a Harry Potter book
Actually it’s a DVD.
Oh! Is it Harry Potter?
It’s a BBC documentary about the history of magic starring the HP cast
Oh cool! I didn’t know Magic was a real thing!
I just bought it for $20 on Amazon
I have this and the tales of beedle the bard on audible. I like it.
Wow and narrated by the The Queen…I mean, Umbridge…I mean, Imelda?? That’s definitely good find.
