![I have a broken Nobel Fuzz and it sounds incredible.](https://preview.redd.it/1v1akn80f68d1.jpeg?auto=webp&s=64aab8ae5463cfbf0a767848054d76580ced496d)
I think I remember a story about Song 2 by Blur being recorded on an amp in a similar state and that's why the tone on that song is so righteous. All the noise at the end of the song is supposedly just the amp in it's death throes before it stopped completely.
Haha, love it
TIL Nobels made a fuzz…
Me too! I thought they did just the one pedal
Yeah seriously, them and ProCo perfected their craft early on and I didn’t think ever made anything else.
The ODR is incredible and I love mine, but Nobels actually had a wide range of effects for a while (90s?) I want to think they didn't really sell them to the US; I could be wrong.
I have the knobs for it, but I wanted to make sure the denting was visible. It must have gotten dropped right on the volume pot and I think it's basically being bypassed. It sounds like it's turned up all the way and turning the volume does nothing but create crackling noises.
It sounds great, though! Such a pleasantly warm, yet huge and chuggy fuzz. But, I wonder if it'll still sound the same if I get the volume pot fixed? I'm debating if I want to try doing myself, find a professional to fix it, or just leave it.
What do you guys think?
gotta play it as it stands! especially if it’s gifted you with a potential sweet-spot- all you can ask of a pedal, really 🤷🏽♂️
You'd probably have the volume pot cranked anyway!
Do you have access to a multimeter? You can measure resistance between the pairs of legs and that will tell you what has happened to it.
I keep meaning to buy one. I guess this is my excuse to pull the trigger!
Seriously, guys, this thing sounds 300% heavier and more articulate than my Swollen Pickle.
Soak it in bro
You could try playing one in a store (if you can find one) and dime the volume knob to see if it sounds similar
I've never seen another one. There isn't even one on Reverb right now lol
You've probably knocked the back of the potentiometer and it needs to be put back
But should I put it back? It sounds great as is. I don't know enough about electronics to know if it's effectively turned all the way up, or if it's doing some thing different. In other words, if fixing it and turning it up all the way wouldn't sound the way it does now, then I don't want to fix it.
Edit: Also, the back of the pot is still attached to the circuit board, so I think the damage is inside the volume pot. There's definitely no pieces missing.
Edit2: Also, I didn't drop it, I got it from a friend like this. I treat my guitar equipment better than I treat my girlfriend.
Is it broken?
I explained in a comment, but the volume pot got crushed and it's basically being bypassed like it's cranked all the way up to 10.
It’s like an Acapulco gold!
I have the first version of this pedal, and it’s amazing. Great range of fuzz sounds.
Clips brosephus
I’ve had another experience with a broken pedal that sounds (kinda) really good. It’s an EHX Doctor Q from the 70’s, but it always makes this kinda whooshing sound when played normally which I’ve never been a fan of. Anyway, if it has a dying battery, it somehow sounds like a synth?? And when everything is unplugged, it makes everything quieter in one mode, and works as a bass cut in the other, which works surprisingly well into fuzz to tighten things up a bit
You reminded me of something mildly cute due to it being "broken":
Years ago I used to own a Yamaha G100 212 amp. One day I was playing and I guess I blew the preamp in it (I had it repaired), but for about a minute, it had the most amazing distortion/fuzz tone. Stopped making noise after that, but that minute was....incredible.
