First gravel bike and first analog bike in a minute. After some purchase decision paralysis all I can say is that it rides fantastic, anyone on the fence should just pull the trigger!

The Ambition has better calipers than the pre-ambition. I have a 2020 pre-ambition X. The calipers are single piston Tektro MD-C510. They will stop (eventually) but you're going to need a long runway. Poseidon upgraded it to MD-C550 dual-pistons for the Ambition. I replaced the 510 on my X with 550, used semi-metallic pads then Jagwire cable upgrade. It's nowhere near hydraulic territory but braking improved significantly and will stop where I want it. I've even locked the rear on paved road a few times from hard braking at around 20-25mph.
ahh i see thanks so much i’m new to cycling and was super worried about this
Yes this was my first ride out of the box! The brakes do feel “squishy” but on the road they performed fine. I do think I’ll eventually do the compressionless brake housing upgrade that everyone talks about. Gotta put some more miles in though first!
When the time comes Jagwire and semi-metallic pads will make a huge improvement on braking. The Ambition has dual-piston calipers vs single pistons on the older pre-ambition X (what I have). I've about 2k miles on my X and they're pretty good bikes. Congratulations and enjoy!
thank you for the info 🤝
gotcha, yea i was wondering if it was an absolute need but i think i’ll end up go the same route as you
get some juintech calipers and jagwire and it'll be the biggest upgrade
That is a truly lovely view.
Worth the climb! Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego
