I'm searching for a new top tube bag which is screwable and 1L on size minimum
I'm searching for a new top tube bag which is screwable and 1L on size minimum
YOU'RE WINNER
I am not a bag. I am human. Still screwable though.
"I am not a bag, I am a free man."
And now I have Iron Maiden's "The Prisoner" as an earworm
I'm not a prisoner, I'm a free man!!
I’m not a prisoner, I’m a tube bag!
Technically screwable, but aging rapidly.
Revelate mag tank bolt on.
Seconded
This one is so ugly tho lol
That’s why I have the apidura one instead, it’s hotter even though you can’t pack as much shit in it haha
Aesthetic is subjective, it matches the aesthetic I am going for on my bike.
I got the tailfin bag. It was expensive, but I haven't thought about the cost once while using it.
From all I've seen today, I like the tailfin the most
I did a very short review of the bag after I bought it, you can see that post here. in the year since then, I've had absolutely nothing negative to say about my experience with it. It still looks good, doesn't move around at all, has never leaked sweat or rain into the cargo area, has all the space I need, and I have had 0 issues with it starting open while I dig for snacks.
The only thing I would be wary of is if you plan on putting your phone in it, make sure your phone fits the dimensions they put on the website. They are absolutely accurate with that
Thx for the details. I only want more space for more food, especially gummybears
I’m looking forward to the bag manufacturers providing their bag volume in “total number of gummy bears“ instead of something silly like cubic inches or cubic centimeters!
Being my favorite ride snack, I'd second this.
What about leg rub? In the market for one and it looks like this one is the way to go
This size, there's absolutely no rub. I've seen the bigger size (1.5L) in person and I'm pretty sure my legs would rub on it. But this one (1.1L) is perfect.
Same here. I looked around a LOT for a bolt on top tube bag, and took a shot on the Tailfin one and have never regretted it. My Pixel 8 Pro is the limit of the phone size it will hold in the mesh pocket, but I was caught in a sudden downpour about 4 miles from home one day and got absolutely soaked, but my kit in the bag was bone dry. That made up my mind for me.
Do you have the zippered one or the magnetic, if I may ask? I’ve been looking for a bolt-on top tube bag as well and Tailfin seems to be the most waterproof. I have found a lot of ones that look better, but “water resistant” is not gonna cut it for me for a top tube bag where I carry a phone and a battery pack.
I have the zipper - I read about folks having issues with getting the flap version to "stay open" so to speak, so I opted for the zip. Its been rained on at least 3x now, and I haven't had an issue. They are a UK based company, so I figured they'd have seen more rain and wet weather than I'd ever get in my lifetime so I'm good with it.
Love the tailfin, sort of wish I’d gone zipper instead of flap bc I think it would be easier to fish stuff out of while riding. Might get another one and strap on instead of screwing it for my rode bike.
The flap stays open and presents an unobstructed opening to the interior. The zipper creates a slot that you have to dig into and feel around while it constantly tries to go back to a closed position. There's no visibility while unzipped and not being held open. I'm incredibly happy with the flap and have no desire to have a zipper that can get clogged with dirt/sweat/mud created by mixing dirt and sweat, skip a tooth and stop working, get pulled off the seam, etc.
Not that I'm biased or anything. Lol
Ha well I appreciate the perspective -- you managed to undo my buyer's remorse. Thanks!
I have the Tailfin zip version and it’s great.
I use the decathlon one
Saw that also. Price is hot for that one, you like it?
I have it too. It’s prefect for me. It is waterproof and rigid enough.
Yep, works flawless
In my country, that bag is around £20
Link?
Is it, you know, screwable?
The pics show that it is.
Got the zippered Tailfin bag. I have the smaller one but they also have one that is 1L.
I’ve been using an Apidura bag for a few years but just picked up a Moosepacks bag at the Unbound expo, excited to give it a shot.
I haven’t taken my apidura one off since getting my bike two years ago lol. I love it.
I take mine off for long road trips when my bike is going to be on a hitch-mounted rack (Kuat).
I have the apidura one but I actually have a question about it: when you use a top tube bag, do your legs rub the when out of the saddle? Mine do and I find it very annoying. Do you just live with it or am I doing something wrong?
I think it's just sort of what happens. I find it annoying but generally it only happens when im out of the saddle and really pushing. Happens with my frame bag too when I have it stuffed.
Oh, okay, I’ll guess I’ll have to learn to tune it out then :-)
Till now I haven't got any problems like that but my current bag is really small
I have the small top tube bag from Tailfin. It bolts on and is very secure. It has rubberized “feet” that give it even more support.
I like it quite a bit. Doesn’t flop around at all. Theres no front strap so it doesn’t bind up when turning. Very nice design imo. I have the zip model but there is also a flap version as well

Edit: spelling
I have an apidura one that I really like. No zipper so it’s easy to get into on the go
I have that one and accidentally opened it twice when out of the saddle… haven’t lost anything yet but I‘m not really happy trusting it with my phone anymore. Other than that awesome bag
Yeah I don’t quite trust my phone in it. Anything more than gels and snacks and a weed pen and it gets top-heavy and I worry about the top flap coming open.
Apostrophes make English more fun!
😁 Sry, English isn't my mother language but I'm thankful for the for every tip so I can improve more
You’re good. I’m sorry if I appeared to mock you! That is a very common grammar mistake I and many native English speakers make all the time when muscle memory takes over on the keyboard. I assumed you were native. Which means you’re doing great!
No problem. I'm Happy for any advice I can get because the English grammar is my weak point. Especially written
Apostrophe’s
Nope
Dang, ok
Magnetic flip top or nothing. I'm not dicking with zippers while on the move.
This looks fantastic, thank you
that is a beautiful bike. I love the colors on it
Thank you! I'm very fond of it.
I switched to the Restrap short bag. I like the interior straps and pockets, and the mesh pocket on both side is perfect for gel trash. It also sit upright, not leaning to one side. 10/10.
Looks good. Does it rub against your leg when you are out of your saddle?
Not that I noticed. The old one rubbed my right leg. It was wider and seem to lean toward the right.
Just got the Oveja Negra bolt on top tube bag. It’s great. Waterproof zipper that can opened/closed with one hand. I think it’s about one liter capacity, big enough for glasses case, wallet, keys and snacks. It’s also wide enough to fit a 12oz can in a coozie.
I just recently got the Tailfin 1.1L zippered version after lots of looking at different bags. Things I like about it… -well built and stable -rubber mounts won’t mark paint -looks clean with no front strap -has a nice taper toward the rear to lessen rubbing on your knees. -no big bright logo (which was the deal breaker for me on Apidura)
Yeah, the tailfin got mentioned often here and I also like it most. Especially that I can get a zipped and a mag version
Also, just a heads up, the bag in your pic is likely a little smaller than 1L. I’d guess it’s comparable to the Tailfin 0.8L. My bag is a bit bigger looking than that. Just in case you were looking at that image as an example. It is big enough to hold my phone, tire plug kit, 2 CO2 cartridges and nozzle, multi-tool and extra Allen keys, hand sanitizer and bandaids, and still has enough room left that I’m sure I could fit at least a few candy bars in it, if not more.
My bag has only 0.5L of storage.
I wasn’t sure if it was your bag or an image you had just stuck on as an example. It looks really nice, but I can imagine why you’d want to upsize a bit.
Specialized x Fjallraven is on clearance in s few places, I grabbed one a month ago.
I’m using this as well, looks sharp, decent build quality. On clearance I think it’s a solid choice.
specialized Fjallraven top tube bag in black. best looking one I could find IMO
Indeed, looks very good and has a nice Profil. Sadly it's sold out
Bolt mounted Xlab has been great for me. I think it’s a little smaller than what you’re looking for but fits 3 C02’s, tire patch kit, and some electrolyte drink mix packets with some extra room to spare.
Rogue panda
I have the Oru case magentic closure top tube bag. Pretty good :)
Yeah, this one looks great. I like that it comes in different colors
100% recommendation for this one. I have the V1 and the zipper is great, I usually line it with a ziplock and just grab nutrition and fit my phone in there for easy photo grabs. The V2 fixes my only issue with it being a little floppy by adding the rigid bottom.
Apidura 1L top tube bag
I run the Apidura racing bolt-on top tube bag (1L) pictured in all of my posts that include my bike. It has a flip top mag latch (so no zippers) and is one of the only ones I found that was actually waterproof, which for a year-round rider in the PNW was a must have. I've been totally satisfied with the bag to date.
Cedaero makes wonderful stuff in a small town in northern MN. can't vouch for them enough. Here's their bolt-on https://cedaero.com/products/tanktopbolton-1

I use a Salsa bolt-mounted one. Salsa Direct Mount Top Tube Bag
It isn’t the sleekest design but great for bikepacking.
Shits been on backorder for months at this point, went with an apidura instead.
An dang, sorry.
I have the bmc one it's pretty small though def not 1L
I used to have the Apidura bag, but I didn't like that it wasn't zippered, so I put that one on my wife's bike and got the Oveda Negra one in bright orange and it works (and looks) great.
love it. i'm guessing they are phish fans based on the donut design.
Dark speed works bag.
I have 1 of those kind and ordered 2 more. But although we have 11bikes within a family, we dont own gravel bike and not intend to get it
What one is pictured I actually really dig the slim low profile and size
You mean my bag? It's from Topeak https://www.topeak.com/de/de/product/1551-FASTFUEL-BAG-bolt-on
Sweet ty
Confused why you wouldn't use the Canyon one that screws directly on to your frame. I have a Grizl as well and just use the Canyon bag.
At the time I got the Grizl I wasn't ready to spend so much money on such a small bag, now I know why it's so "expensive". But I also didn't want to buy a apidura because I think there are so much more brands out there to try
"Are we bag...or are we dancer?"
Cedaero is what you’re looking for
I converted an AEVOR bag into a bolt on and have been loving it so far
Oh nice. I like this one. How did you do that
I used a colour pencil to mark the position of the screw holes and melted them in using a soldering iron. First time I tried it and it was a thing of 5 minutes. It has a sturdy plastic reinforced so is not floppy at all. The strap at the front I left on mainly to close the visual gap, could easily be trimmed off
I got the Canyon screwable :) top tube bag for my Grizl about a year ago and have been happy with it since. Enough space to carry all I need (nothing else in pockets or a second bag), doesn't rattle on rough terrain and looks sorta organic with the frame. Think it was like $50 bucks if memory serves.
Last time I showed my bag I got banned on this subreddit.
Cedaero Tank Top, bolts on in 100 and 124 mm setback, it comes it two sizes, 3 fabric types, and like a bazillion colors
I have the lead out top tube bag, very durable, wish it was just a tad larger.
I have the oveja negra snack pack and like it quite a bit.
I have tailfin. Don’t love it. Sometimes my legs can brush it. Planning to switch to restrap. It has a slimmer profile
Wolf tooth pump bag. I don’t use it for my pump, I have it on the top tube and fill it with food, phone, wallet etc
Sorry for the offtopic, but what bag are you using currently in the photo? It looks good, I am searching for something small, not too bulky :)
No problem. I currently use this one https://www.topeak.com/de/de/product/1551-FASTFUEL-BAG-bolt-on
But I don't like that it don't have an inlay. So anything you put in this bag lies direct on the bold heads.
I had the same issue, have a great bag but the bolt heads were uncovered so I ended up buying some velcro tape from a DIY store and sticking a piece of the softer side over each bolt head.
I'm cut some cardboard and put it on top of the screws. But I'm more annoyed about the fact that they want 30 euros and you get a small bag without any bolts or a cover.
Why not keep you’re snacks in your back pocket of you’re jersey?
I started with the orucase magnetic closure top tube bag and then moved on to tailfin. Both are great.
Tailfin.8 liter and I love it. It can be bolted or strapped. Very secure on my URS LT which I am using one bolt and one strap.
Topeak Fastfuel bolt on. I did add #10 washers for each bolt to get a better grip on the bag’s mounting slots. Price was reasonable and Topeak has been around for a long time.
I’m looking at the one you have, the 0.5L. Is it large enough to hold an iPhone?
IPhone max no way, the normal one maybe
Just regular iPhone 13/14? And some keys, wallet.
I have a Google pixel 7 pro and it's definitely to long to close the zipper, but it gets into the bag so maybe that helps you. Wallet and keys should go in there when the phone isn't to wide and to long
I'm not a top tube bag fan. I rather have a bigger saddle bag for my needs. It just works better and it's not in your way.
I like to have a bag of gummybears in front of me on a long endurance tour
I've never screwed my top tube bag, but now I notice the position and the vertical slot... I'm switching to wet lube.
That's a fancy looking ozark trail.
I have this Rhinowalk K34 from Aliexpress, that I really like. I had to drill some holes for it to, to screw it to my Triban. But it has been pleasure overall.
Bum bag for life, TT bags blow.
I am the opposite. Never use a saddle bag on any of my bikes. TT are easy to access for mid ride nutrients and such. Plus saddle bags look like trash, imo
That's when understanding the difference between your and you're is important
