You heard the man. Buy that new driver!
Joke Post/MEMEkrank is not really a weird club or brand at all. they have been around forever on the long drive circuit and recently started making usga legal drivers a fairway woods. my old golf instructor was senior long drive champion and he had a krank driver about 15 years ago
Playing a 6 degree long drive head is weird
Why?
The problem for most people that prevents them from using a 6 degree head is their inability to launch the ball high enough through their swing mechanics.
I believe more pros will start shifting towards 6-8 degree heads as the “norm” as speeds continue to increase on the tour and swings get more optimized.
Lots of benefits for decreasing driver loft if you’re able to add loft on your own.
Pros don't play long drive equipment because they're not long drive competitors
It's not a driving contest. Unless you're Bryson, which is why it's weird.
It’s a driver… it doesn’t have some super secret long drive technology in it. It’s just got less MOI and a lower loft than a Callaway/TM equivalent.
And nobody is using anything even remotely like it. Which is why it's weird.
Do you not understand the basis of the post? Jesus
I thought he didn’t bag the long drive stuff in competition?
only weird if he couldnt hit it
Its really not weird at those speeds.
His irons being the same length is a little weird, no?
Even wierder they are a one off custom 3d printed set that cost him like $10k
Didn't realize it went that far...
Posting for others: https://www.golfdigest.com/story/masters-2024-bryson-dechambeau-3d-printed-irons-conforming-usga-grooves
I have the formula fire pro (same one Bryson has here) but I keep mine at the stock loft of 7.5°.
It’s got more of a bowed onset than any of the mainstream brands’ drivers and I’m not huge on “forgiveness” and all that but it is quite hard to get a hold of. The standard option stiff shaft that I put in it is also really stiff I feel like comparatively.
And their marketing is a little gimmicky and are one of those “sales events that never end” where it’s “hey tomorrow’s the last day” and then two days later is “sale extended for two more days” every time.
But the club itself is good quality and if you can get one during their sales which are often 30 - 40% then I think it’s worth trying out.
I’ve heard the Krank drivers are a little bit of a gimmick but the forgiveness is definitely better than expected.
I think they have gimmicky marketing tactics but the club itself is not a gimmick at all. I don’t think it performed too well in the MGS test but clubs that are distinctly different than others generally don’t perform well either
Got fitted about 2 years ago,, was talking to my buddies and said I don't know if it helped me all that much, they said bullshit you're game really improved, it wasn't you, it's the matched up clubs to your swing.
It can be a lot of factors. I have a set of fitted clubs and a set of off the rack clubs. I shot an 88 and an 87 last week using the different sets. Went to Mexico and got rental clubs. Shot an 89 on a fairly tough course. I think club manufacturers, golf stores, and professional fitters want you to believe it makes a difference, but lessons or practice is much more valuable.
If you are kinda normal sized. If you are really tall and really strong or really short or really weak then yeah get fit.
That makes sense.
Even if the clubs don’t make a big difference, the confidence after getting properly fit helps a lot
I mostly made this post as a joke but having the right equipment definitely helps. I’ve never been fitted before but just changing my driver shaft to the right stiffness has helped me hit a lot more fairways
It was all because of that new golf bag.
I found that the right shaft flex and weight mattered more to me than the club.
And weight even more than flex, even though everybody loves to talk about flex only
I had no idea until I did a fitting
I’m hitting the shit out of my 2001 3w and 7w and really want to upgrade to current to see the diff. But.. afraid of fucking shit up. So. Old small heads it is for now..
Yeah don't do it :) Unless you have an incredibly high swing speed it's probably not worth it.
New equipment is heavily over rated for amateurs.
Not necessarily about playing the best, but playing the RIGHT equipment. I see a lot of hacks playing forged players clubs and barely get the ball in the air
krank the driver and fairway woods use. says on their website unless your average drive is 260 their driver really isnt for you
Well, I saw they have different faces just for that. The XX for an average drive of 200, X for 200-240? And pro for great drivers of the golf ball.
New driver = long drive champion
He said ‘good stuff in my hands’ hehe
It's like in Harry Potter where the wand chooses him, not the other way around
I’ve finally started saving for new clubs. My 3h is so old it’s now the loft of most 5 and some 6 irons. My clubs can vote. He’ll. They can drink.
PS- someone send me money. I’m poor. Just saying…
I just upgraded this year, been playing the same set for 22 years…and have gotten worse lol can’t figure out the new irons for whatever reason
u can get 5-6 year old models on facebook marketplace for stupid cheap. Easily can get a 50-60$ hybrid to replace it
I recently started playing again and went from a set of Tommy Armor 845 silver Scotts to my buddy's Gen 5 PXG and some Taylor Made p790s. Lol what a difference, blew my mind. Also went from a Big Bertha II to a 10k driver and my mishits go as far as my flushes on the old gear.
Just went in to PGA Superstore and hit a few irons and a couple drivers... I want new clubs now.
Gonna stick with my old R1 driver, because I still hit that pretty well, and go with some 1-2yr old new irons first since it's a bit cheaper than a new driver. But I may need to wait until the end of summer or so before I can do any of that.
Bastards have almost hooked me.
Equipment does make a difference.
Once you get to a certain point, yes. But for beginners and those slightly beyond beginner it likely does not - lessons is the first step.
Amateurs like us getting fitted is not the same thing as what Bryson is talking about. He plays custom clubs with domed faces
Source: got fitted and was standard across the board with zero difference between several stiff shafts I tried
Even a broken clock is right twice a day
Applicable here? Nah
Except he’s not broken, Bryson is awesome.
How many times?
Twice.
This isn't just your buddy who finally got a fitting, it's a pro that has been on very custom clubs for what, a decade? Longer? He just needs to keep feeding his ego to stay confident, which is something we probably could all do with a bit of
But the technology for long hitters like Bryson has grown tremendously. Not just the shaft but club face too. So it can't just be a confidence thing. He posted a video recently where he uses a ball that is probably comparable to the rollback accepted ball and his usual left dash ball. It was very noticable just with a ball difference. Now imagine club head, shaft, and exercise improvements. His home gym he posted on a good good video 3 years ago was built solely to improve his power and some of those machines are made just to improve golf swings.
Exactly. He is exceeding the tolerances standard manufacturers use for mass market production. If they use a 100 and 115ss to test, it doesnt necessarily cover a player like him. He is putting different stresses on the clubs at 130+. I think his point was everything is fine out of the middle, but at 130+ shit goes crazy if you hit it outside the sweet spot. He doesnt want to give up 190+ ball speed because that is his advantage. He wants equip to be developed to help him at this speed.
Any equipment manufacturer can make anything. No major manufacturer will ever touch this guy again after how he treated cobra and now that he’s on LIV. I will say this: his new PR training has been phenomenal. It’s like they gave him a new personality. The original one will slip back through eventually but it’s been impressive.
Cool story bro
This message brought to you by every major golf retailer…
Just like his driver, he is a tool
in this case i actually believe it, because the guy has the weirdest set of clubs going.
