You can lay your head on my shoulder
"Put your head on my shoulders" - Paul Anka
Is it really plural?
eh im a little busy this yr mate maybe next
That is the ultimate expression of pet love right there
What breed of dog is this? I've always loved how they look and always seem loving and sweet, but unsure of what they are.
It looks like a border collie, a British herding dog.
Aren't they one of the smartest dog breeds?
yes, they are.
Unless what I've heard is bullshit, it's the smartest breed followed by full sized poodles.
But only the rottweiler is smart enough to write its own overview
They have amazing personalities
Absolutely, my BC can obey commands she wasnât explicitly trained to obey based on context, like weâll tell her to go get an item and point to it, and sheâll bring it to us. Sheâll also go get members of the family for us by name.
Yes. Sometimes it feels like my BC is bilingual. We teach him in English but when talk about a tennis court in mandarin, his ears perk up and he always demands to play
Very smart, but also a working dog (like most smart dogs) so they have energyâŚ. And more energyâŚ. And even more energy.
All that energy plus intelligence will either be the best thing in your life, or (if they are not stimulated enough and get bored) the worst thing in your life.
Most dog breeds that are former work breeds and arenât inbred/bred to be health disasters are very intelligent.
While that's kind of true, borders are way smarter than other breeds such as aussies. Honestly they are on a whole other level compared to all other breeds.

Someone call an ambulance, this person seems to have had a stroke
Yeah, weâre pretty smart for dogs
They're the best. Totally people dogs.
The smartest by far.
And also bonkers.
Love them, but smart does not equal obedient. They need jobs and lots of exercise.
It's a weird metric. They're amazing at what they do and take some specific training really well. They are also known for getting run over because they like to chase car tyres.
There's a dog that can herd British people?
Dammit you beat me to my shitty joke!!
And the name of the dog is 'Queue'
More likely a McNabb mix it looks like
So clever, watching them direct sheep is like seeing someone play chess.
Definitely a border collie. If youâre thinking of getting one solely because of how they look, justâŚdo a lot of research and preparation. I donât want to say âdonât get one just because of theyâre prettyâ but a lot of people do and are not prepared for how much work they take and they end up having to give them up. Theyâre only loving and sweet if you have the time, patience, and energy to keep them mentally and physically satisfied, otherwise they get bored and can be come frustrated and destructive. They are very very intelligent and the best dogs ever, but definitely not for the faint-hearted.
I've had two border collies.
They NEED 3+ hours a day of heavy activity, and they will crave more.
Swimming, ball throwing, walks in the woods, etc. Just when you think they're tired, they'll drop a toy by your feet and bark at you to throw it some more.
Theyre family dogs, and need a dedicated family to take turns walking them because rain or shine, they need the excersize.
The benefit is that they're sweet, smart, and loyal dogs. But they're fucking nuts.
Theyâre work dogs.
Iâve got two currently and this is exactly what I have to do. Morning walk 6am on the beach, midday walk, and another walk in the evening usually at the beach as well. Luckily having 2 means they can occupy each-other when they are bored at home. Itâs a constant wrestling match between the two of them.
When I was young I would use mine as a sled dog with my scooter to tire her out. They have insane amounts of energy. Can't imagine what drivers thought of us passing them up, she was fast
Your hard rule is totally not true. There's different personalities of border collies as well who all need different things. My borders are ok with mental challenges one day and being lazy, while going hard in a sport like agility or disc the next day. You don't need to run your dogs for 3hrs a day for them to be happy.
You do whatever is best for your dogs.
So much this. They're working dogs, bred to spend a lot of time keeping a herd of animals together and moving them from place to place. That means they have a ton of energy, the ability to figure out somewhat complex tasks, and the desire utilize both.
They need like 5 miles of walking a day if they can't just run around on their own, and if they don't have a job to do... They'll find one. My mom's tries to herd her, her husband, the other dogs, the pigs, cars, whatever happens to be moving.
My wife and I adopted a border collie last year during the pandemic. We are very active people. We both mountain bike, and trail run. Our dog has kept up with us on 15 mile, 4k of vert no problem.
He has to be in front at all times. Mountain biking? He hit 30 mph and still had energy to play in the lake afterwards.
It was hard at first raising him, but it paid off.
Yup... don't worry, it'll slow down when it's 12 years old...
Mine is 14 and is still all go
Mine is 16 and would be charging if she wasnât blind
I donât think I walk 5 miles in a week⌠damn.
Same for Aussies, I have 2 now and Aussholes they are when they don't get enough exercise
Yeah, itâs a collie, my neighbors had one growing up. Was practically my baby sitter. They are extremely intelligent and active dogs.
my girlfriend once told her therapist that I was essentially raised by a golden retriever (which is true)
the therapist replied, "we should all be so lucky"
I'm relatively sure it's a border collie. We have had them for years. We have a really big one now, but the one in the video is even bigger than ours. Makes me think maybe there's a bit of a mix in there.
But, behavior.. Yeah this is a daily occurrence. Every bit of it.. "let me up", "oh, thank you let me cuddle" "oh what have I gotten myself into?"
Incredibly smart and stupidly high energy athletic working breed. They will become destructive and escape often if not properly exercised and challenged. Actual training is an absolute must for a border collie to safely thrive, not just âsit stayâ commands. Grooming requirements are more than dogs with shorter coats.
Border collies are not at all a dog for inexperienced handlers or first time dog owners. Very impressive dogs.
Fun fact, a border collie bit and degloved my finger when it attacked my dads dog and I tried to break it up. Her owner was awful and the dog suffered for it.
Yeah sadly when I was a kid my parents got me a dog and I did a lot of research, landing on a BC because they are intelligent and pretty.
Luckily she was very little, but even still we didn't have the space or energy to give her everything she needed. She ended up being a bit of an anxious dog who didn't like strangers (I partially blame two neighbor kids that we let play with her, but when we weren't looking they pulled on her tail and laid on her until she bit one of them and they ran away).
She had a long healthy life, but mentally I think we didn't train her right when she was young, so she would very occasionaly snip at people she didn't know.
She was an amazing dog who learned from listening to my family talk. She knew all of our names, she knew all the rooms of the house by name and understood commands like "go upstairs" or go "downstairs" even though we never trained those things. She even understood upstairs and downstairs when we went to new unfamiliar places. She knew her different toys by name and could do backflips when she played fetch.
She was incredible and I loved her, but if I could go back I would reconsider getting a border collie for my first dog because she needed so much more space, exercise, and stimulation than we knew how to give her.
Iâm not surprised by the bite, herding breeds use their mouths a lot. I am a card carrying crazy dog lady but I would never have a German Shepherd or a border collie personally
Thatâs a chihuahua- my mom had one.
Chihuahuas are tiny compared to this likely Border Collie as everyone seems to be saying.
I had a border collie and he had green hair and weighed 250 lbs so this is definitely not a border collie
Iâm not sure tho Iâve had Alaskan Eskimo, German Shepard, and cocker spaniel when younger.
Love cocker spaniels- I used to go to the dog track and watch them race. Made a lot of money betting on cockers.
Nice luck dude congrats
clearly
3 different answers.. which one is it? You decide.
It's a border collie. They are extremely energetic and intelligent which means they can be amazing but they also need a ton of attention and if they don't havet heir needs met they can be neurotic and anxious.
Itâs a Clydesdale
It's a tortoise.
They are not meant to be pets
English shepherd
Damn! Dad doesn't skip leg day
You can see the disappointment in his face when he realizes he's not as comfortable as he'd hoped he'd be.
You can project the disappointment in his face.
Dogs have facial expressions. An open relaxed mouth with relaxed body language show a content dog. When they close their mouth, and everything starts to get a little more still, body, tail, face, eyes, they're no longer comfortable and content. You can see it. Excuse me, I can see it b/c I'm used to reading dogs, you cannot. My mistake.
Oh, I grew up with dogs. You saying this dog looks disappointed in its face is projection. If not, then please teach me about what in its face signals disappointment about it being less comfortable than it thought it would be.

I love border collies, mine is an attention whore as well lol
How did that dog not lift off with that tail
Spoiled thing
If I pick up my husky and my friends husky sees it shes jumps up like that till I pick her up as well.
My sisters ridgeback hates thisâŚ. Except with me and refuses to move out of confined spaces unless I pick her up and possibly suffer a bulged disc bc she weighs 110+ lbs
Beautimus.
Our pit always looks so jealous when we carry the cat lol.
Itâs a bad sign when a dog does this because he thinks he is equal with the baby.
I have no idea why you got down voted. You need to train this kind of behavior out of your dog. It's jealousy. It's cute, it's also a great way for a dog to bite a kid.
I was told by my pediatrician that any time you walked into a house with a baby and their dog jumped on you, do not give that dog any chance to be near the baby. He told me that was the best predictor of a dog that will bite.
I donât give a shit about the down votes. Someone else needs to hear that, because that information stuck with me.
It sucks that people are so blinded by cute that they donât want to hear advice that will keep their baby from being mauled.
I've watched a child get bitten on the face. Twice. Two separate occasions. Both times, I told the dogs owner in advance that the dog needed to be separate because it was overwhelmed. People baby their dogs
Which is the problem because dogs arenât smart enough to understand that human social hierarchies are different from pack ones.
I have advised people if they arenât going to train their dog (well trained dogs rarely do this shit) then at least do the bare minimum. Feed them after the family â especially the baby has been fed. Make them wait to enter a room after you. Stop allowing them to climb and lick on you. And never share your food with them.

A jumping dog can be annoying at bestâand dangerous at worstâwhen youâre holding the baby.
