okay someone posted the guest room/attic of the Rodrigues and i honestly think it’s cute and cozy, although maybe not many people’s style, but so many people are snarking on it as though it’s the worst thing ever to exist? how is it their business and why do they care that there’s a frikkin’ pregnancy pillow?
Omg the Rodrigues guest room is an abomination and i wouldn’t be caught dead in a setting like that!
Snark on the SnarkThat was the point that bothers me so much. They have a lot of kids, but they don’t want to spread the kids out.
Guests rooms vary in decor, but they aren’t necessary, especially when you need the room for other things.
It’s a fundie habit. In the hayday of Free Jinger I remember there was a family that almost literally stacked their children like cordwood , something like 10 in a room, in a way that actually looked dangerous. But they had a “media room” that the children had supposedly asked for, because if there’s something fundies are known for, it’s humoring their children’s requests…:
They probably did ask for it, in the same way that kids will ask for like, a bowling alley in their house. They don't understand the space constraints and that something else has to be repurposed, you can't (usually) just add on a whole new room.
no no, i got that. but so many comments were focusing on the room itself, and the pillow. which is absurd
I hate the they are tacky snark
There are so many reasons to bash jill and her cheap decor is the lowest branch
Jill is a maximalist to nth degree. Not my style but not my house. But as someone who works with older adults and assessing fall risks, the throw rugs on the stairs are dangerous af. Everything else is just a matter of style.
Her choice of decor is far from my personal taste, but it's her house. If she likes the gaudy decor, so be it.
That said, I do agree with the snarkers on the point of keeping the room open as a guest suite when they have so many kids sharing rooms. An easy solution would be to use the smaller bedroom for the three youngest girls and let the three oldest girls share the current girls' bedroom. Alternatively, J&D take the guest suite, let the older girls take whichever bedroom is biggest, and the youngest three in the remaining room.
That said, I don't understand why they didn't just have two more bedrooms built at the same time when they were building the addition in the first place.
I forgot to mention this with my initial comment but this is also a key point. Yeah, Jill's decorating style is what I would describe as, "accidental maximalist grandma-core in the most unintentional way possible." It's not for everyone.
However, considering they are always on a shoestring budget because David doesn't work a real job to provide for his family as the head of household, they don't really have that much money to blow on decor. I'm not saying it has to be white walls and very minimal stuff, but a lot of it is borderline too much, and her kids need to eat.
Spicy hot take: don't think there's anything wrong with Jill's decorating style. Yeah, it's kind of tacky, but in a world full of sad beige farm houses, I do like that she tries to put a little bit of character into her home. Then again, I'm also a maximalist, and her house reminds me of how my Nana used to decorate.
That said, I feel like they could have organized their house differently so that there is more room for the kids. With 7 girls still living at home, they deserve to have more wiggle room. Maybe the eldest could have lived upstairs and the youngest ones downstairs. They really do not need a guest bedroom when they have that big of a family in that small of a home, in my opinion.....
Edit - typos
They finished the guest room at least a year ago and I think Jill's parents might have used it when they stayed with her for a while last year. Jill made it clear when she unveiled it that it was a guest room and that Nurie's family would use it when visiting. The rest of the kids who are out of the house live locally. So it does get used, but I'm sure it sits empty most of the time.
I can absolutely your point, but it seems wrong to cram six girls into a bedroom when another room s going begging and the oldest two or youngest two could be in there most of the time. It's not like they have a ton of belongings to move around when company comes. But anyway, we definitely don't know all the logistics.
Let’s not forget too that Janessa lives in a closet. IIRC, Jill posted a picture of her room when they gave it a makeover and it had no windows at all. It was also really tiny.
So yea, just further reason why a guest rooms is kind of excessive.
This. There’s no reason for Janessa to live in such a small space when there’s an extra room.
Split Renee, Tessie, and Hannah into the attic and have Olivia, Sadie, Sofia and Janessa in the girls room.
I think it’s pretty damn ugly. lol. But the main concern is that her kids are squished together, and there’s an empty guest bedroom upstairs?!
I bought a pregnancy pillow after seeing that post. :) I'm curled up in it right now!
aww that’s nice!
I think the point was that so many children share a room and they have a whole guest room just sitting there. The rest of the snark you mention I totally agree with
