Max: Where we touch, it was a bit clumsy. When you're in the car initially, you think, "Didn't I leave enough a space, half a car width?" I honestly think I did leave a car's width. I'm not there to give 2 cars width because then I know that he's going to get me. You race hard for a race win.
There was 100% enough space.Â
The "moving under braking" isn't even a factor.
Max stalled waiting for the turn in because he was going to send Lando over the curbs like he did to Charles.Â
And Lando was crowding him (stayed completely off the curb on entry, which IS the racing line) hoping to make it 'round the outside.
And they hit each other while they were trying to figure out who was going to make the turn in first.Â
There wouldn't have been a penalty if they didn't knock each other's tires off.
Except the Lando isn't moving laterally and max is. Max made his defensive move inside meaning he's now bound by the space Lando leaves him on approach to the corner. Max is also obligated to leave a cars width to the edge of the track which is the white lines. Lando has no obligation to open up the corner any wider.
You can defiantly push people 2 wheels on the curb and it has never been considered pushing off track.
You can even do a valid quali lap by going 2 wheels on the curb.
If Lando reacted to Max's movement and went on the curb there would be no penalty. Same thing happened at start of Spain, Max went on the grass to avoid collision and Lando didn't get a penalty. If Max kept his steering wheel straight they would've collided and Lando would have gotten a penalty.
Youre not under any obligation to move over when driving straight.
No hes not but he lost out by 10 points in the WDC so congrats to Lando for not being wrong I guess
sure but enjoy crashing instead of getting another shot at him later (See Sainz doing the same to Max last year in the same track and how Max avoided it)
No you can't push them off as such. Not on a straight. We aren't at the corner quite yet nor are we on exit where the rules are different. And yes, everyone in Spain thought what Lando did was outside of the rules, but it's lap 1 and no collision happened nor did it result in any lasting advantage. I'd challenge you to find an example where the stewards penalized this in the past.
Of course no penalty happened as Max took evasive action. If he didn't then the cars would have been binned.
If Lando reacted to Max's movement and went on the curb there would be no penalty.
Yea and if he would have done that, everyone would keep shitting on him for being too soft on Max. People need to decide what the want really.
Instead he got his elbows out. And when you get your elbows out against Max it will end up in a contact most of the times. Then it's up to god what will be the result of the contact. This time Max lost positions and Lando had to retire. Next time it can be the other way around, or no damage might be caused, or Lando will get out with no dmg, wins the race while Max retires. That's just racing.
Yeah I remembered that rule while Max was mowing the lawn last week at the start lol.Â
Move over 2 inches and make the pass somewhere else and worst case get 2nd place points or a flat and a DNF.Â
