Is St. John’s equipped to be an emergency airport as well, like a smaller scale version of Gander? This incident illustrates how it’s the closer of the 2 airports for some of the trans-Atlantic routes, so for instances where planes can’t/shouldn’t fly the added distance to Gander, can it support them in a comparable way?
Both airports can handle emergency landings but St. John's has far more resources than Gander. For a medical emergency, you 100% want to be in St.John's over Gander (multiple hospitals, specialized medical care etc..) These landings are actually a pretty common occurrence here in St.John’s.
