Edit: what our friend was attempting here is known as the “untrustworthy narrator”, or at least a version of it. They’re suggesting a choice, knowing that the choice is false. Which was my assumption: either neither image is fake, or both are. In this case, both images are real, and our intrepid friend is ultimately trying to discredit any real image provided by space agencies (I.e. “How do you know they didn’t just take pictures of rocks?”). It’s a very simple con, but also very popular because it is effective.
