APPLY FOR INTERNSHIPS IN CS, NOW! NETWORK.
EVERY company is opening or had been opening up their internships for the winter break ( 4 wks), spring semester (12 wks), summer (8wks)
Since technically you're a student, go to your cs advisor/ guidance counselor and speak to them. BUT you must be proactive and be doing projects in cs and posting on github.
If you're interest is in SWE, start working on sw problems, that's what high end company's, Bloomberg, Gòogle,... test interview on potential internship Candiates. And they pay well 60/hr n 10k sign in bonus.
My kid already had 2 internships in his 1st year. And up graded to bigger well know companies, every time.
You have to network, if the college you go to has a CS dept for undergrads, they usually have info on open houses, either at the college or a large company will open invite different companies and students go see. WORD SPECIFIC YOUR RESUME, WEAR A SUIT, cut your hair look good and go up to ppl and speak to them. Ask for their Linkin and drop your resume.
My kid goes to a city local college, no big name, his advice is you have to hustle, network w/ faculty, students, advisors, open houses, study on your own time, make projects, that show your skills and knowledge, work on clubs websites.
He visits his cs counselor every so often, updates what's he doing, built a relationship , so when there's an internship she let's him know first or gives him a contact. This yr, Paramount.
Most kids extended their graduation at to be able to get into internships, bc that is where they call you back ìf you worked well w/I their culture.
Don't be laid back waiting for opportunities, get into the larger companies internship, carfax, Netflix, capitolone, mastercard.... Apply for places outside your city, kid got one in Virginia, out of state.
The advantage of living at home is you can leave your state to do internships, and not worry about expenses at home.
YOU GOT THIS, STUDY AND HUSTLE HARD. THE REWARDS ARE REALLY LARGE. 18 TO 100 AND HOUR INTERNINH, SOME WITH HOUSING.
GOOD LUCK!
Thank you for the advice. I'm currently applying to internships, but will contact my school for help since I see a lot of undergrad only internships. I recently gained admission so I'm still navigating the resources. I will continue trying. Thank you
Also check out capitol one, kid said they do interships with people w/o conventional cs degree. I think you still got to be in school.
AS FOR when on the application the ask which location, kid put any location to nab an internship
Also look into any utilities companies, they have listed as college assistants. Also hospitals, have listed under tech, look at their job sites. Kid got summer intern there and they called back and kept a girl who interned last summer. And they told him if he was interested in returning they'd hire him.
And look into city sponsored internships, in your school, where the city pays for wage but a private company gives the internship.
Good luck!
