China’s BYD taps the Euros to get the EV edge on Volkswagen
We really need to get these vehicles out of Europe while China is supporting Russia, Iran and North Korea. China never gave foreign companies access to their markets without the products being made in China. Time to reciprocate.
Not to mention that when they invade Taiwan, good luck getting spare parts
Yes, let’s do that, and also pay 30 percent more for 30 percent less of a product. We supported big sugar, big oil, big tobacco , big alcohol, losing war on drugs, not to mention a range of dictatorships in South America , but if a product is Chinese made we are suddenly fundamentalists, because we love work life balance and cannot let producing a superior product get in the way of our summer break. Get thee to a nunnery ,
“Superior Product?” I’d rather a BMW than a BYD. I’d prefer a Mercedes to an MG. This is not America.
Yeah me too if BMW or Mercedes had a similar product at a similar price.
No. They have a vastly superior product at a higher price. Because EU governments are democratically elected and do not pay massive subsidies to companies controlled by party officials in order to win market share in overseas markets. The Chinese Communist Party is a corrupt cabal of unelected oligarchs using nationalism as a means to mobilise their population.
No one is forcing anyone on this side of the pond to buy these Chinese cars, and yet they sell. And you think corruption doesn't exist and government doesn't just support the interest of business in the west?
They are selling because their bang for buck is better than any of the European brands.
My point is the price is often the deciding factor once all the loaded early adopters buy in.
Doesn't matter how good the beamer is if the competition is giving people what they want at the price they want.
You’re absolutely correct. No one is forcing anyone to buy those cars. This is a free market. So it’s perfectly acceptable to place tariffs on them to protect our indigenous companies. There are over 700 people in Tuam making vision systems (rear view cameras, etc) for Stellantis, BMW, VAG, Renault and Mercedes Benz. Should we just let the CCP subsidise their competitors in Shanghai without response? Try selling something in China and get back to us.
