Mine is that Albania plaid miles better than England, which only proves how unfair football is.
That France or England will pull a 180 and start playing amazingly, this one might be a lil unpopular tho
Although they didn’t come in considered a contender like England and France, I’m gonna say Netherlands will take a huge set forward in the round or 16 with Simons leading the charge and will make it to the finals (yes, I am a delusional fan).
You are not alone !
I still have a great feeling about us in this tournament.
hihihi, na
Je rookt te veel wiet
Lol I like how you told yourself that you smoke too much. Appropriate.
England does this in every competition, that’s why I don’t stress about the group stages
Well they also never win so.. Maybe you should..
Watch Mbappe get started. He will 100% be a major threat going forward.
Nah… he’s an overrated one trick pony
you cant be a france fan or even a football fan and tell that mbappe is overrated, especially after what he has done for the team in recent wcs
He only scores on penalties and fast breaks. Now that defenses know the one same old dribble he’s gonna make, they have figured out how to contain him. He doesn’t have a head game, and he holds the ball too much to a point where it’s detrimental to the teams he plays on.
PSG fan by any chance? lol
I'm a PSG fan and i know that we need Mbappé to win the tournament. If he plays well, we can win the euro, even if we face big teams.
No but I watch a lot of their games and I can tell you he’s the most predictable player I’ve ever seen
I agree with this
France yes, England no.
This tournament is really missing Kalvin Phillips's quality.
Gareth Southgate has entered the chat
That's unpopular, definitely
< This comment was cancelled by the VAR technology >
And that's how we avoid potential mistakes, such as seeing that comment /s
Scotland will win it
England have missed maguire for his ariel ability on set peices and random driving runs
Scottish supporters are no better than those from most other countries
100%. Don't get me wrong they've been good, but plenty of other countries have had good fans throughout. I thought our fans were very good tonight. Especially watching that dross, but I'm not out here seeking gratification for our fans.
I think they are so well rated because people compares them with the England supporters: Scottish are nice and fun and the England supporters are… well, England supporters do the things that the England supporters do
Group C is the most boring group to ever exist at euros
That’s not an opinion, that’s just a very very sad fact
I don't think that could be classed as an unpopular opinion. No one would disagree with you on that; England have played poorly, Albania have played well in some of their games.
Also I don't think it proves that football is unfair. England played poorly but also played in a way which meant they were unlikely to lose (oppositions didn't exactly create loads of chances against them). Albania went for it but weren't good enough in the end.
Germany shouldn’t be as much favoured as they are right now.
Aside from beating #39 in the rankings, they heavily struggled with Switzerlands defence and counterplays. Their 2-0 win over Hungary also wasn’t convincing at all and could’ve easily went 1-1 (especially with that potential foul from Neuer).
I predict that they will beat Denmark 2-1 but will be knocked out in the quarterfinal when they find that step up in competition in Spain.
As a German, the hype around our squad outside of Germany is pretty hilarious. A couple months ago before Kroos got brought back, everybody here was convinced we‘ll go out in groups. Good showings in the friendlies against France and the Netherlands hyped up even the grumpiest German but we were brought back to reality in the next two atrocious friendlies.
Germany is #16 in the world, Switzerland is #19, so a draw seems fair, no?
I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment regarding the knockout stage
There are way too many bad teams in this tournaments. We should go back to 16 teams, no 24.
100%! The pools have almost no interest in this setup
This year 8 teams would be enough.
3rd place teams shouldn't go through too the knockout stages.
Albania's group was murderous, and I loved their performance too.
However, part of playing "better" involves planning for 7 matches rather than 3. England looks ugly, but will be dangerous for that reason. France scored no goal but penalty. Italy managed to disarm Albania and secure victory without showing much. And that's not worse - that's cruelly efficient.
The Euro should be 16 teams.
All those group matches just to eliminate only a few teams.
I see your point but the group stage really adds fun to it for the viewers imo, otherwise it would be really short. The group stage also funcitons as a tool for the managers in order to spectate and analyze other teams.
No one is saying to get rid of the group stage.
The euros was always traditionally just 16 teams, with a group stage (2 progress per group) straight into QFs.
So the only difference was one less knockout round.
The bracket setup sucks. One side of the bracket has all the best teams and the other side has England and Italy who both look terrible but one of them will undoubtedly make the final. It’s almost like groups shouldn’t determine placement but total points.
Austria will gladly take everybody out in that side of the bracket, wait and watch.
That would be really cool to watch, truly. But my point stands. It’s crazy to have all the favorites on one side of the bracket and they have to knock each other out to face an inferior team in the final.
It has only happened because ‘big’ teams have underperformed.
France were way below the levels expected, and didn’t top the group.
Each side of the draw has 3 group winners.
If the groups had played out as expected, one side would have had Portugal Spain Germany, and the other would have had England France and Belgium. So it’s not like it’s unfairly set up, France just shat the bed.
It’s the way tournaments work.
On paper, it’s actually almost equal. One side contains Spain, Germany, Portugal, and France, but the other one has England, Italy, and Netherlands. Of course, it’s not equal if we look at the current quality of these teams. But if we focus solely on the big nations, not really.
Then what on earth should decide it?
Did you read the comment? Total points. If there are ties on total points you then go into all the other tiebreakers that exist. The team with the most points and best tiebreaks plays the worst 3rd place team. The team with the second most points or tiebreaks plays the second worst 3rd place team. And this continues on until you have the worst group winner playing the best second place group runner up in the knockout round. And it zig zags, top left side of bracket is best 1st placed team vs worst 3rd place team, then top right side of bracket is second best first place team vs second to worst third place team, and then it continues left side, right side, until all slots are filled.
Oh, sorry, my bad. That sounds like a good system, I agree. Would also make it difficult for teams to not try to win to get a worse opponent. Good shout.
Really unpopular opinion. Portugal just could qualify second of they like the other half better :)
How is that possible?
I see France playing way better and winning
England games were the best so far.
You're being sarcastic right
He meant the best sleeping aid.
The best advertisement for volleyball
Italy will be on the final, they played like shite until now but they can make miracles
This is a hot take XD. But let's hope!
Croatia has a very overrated team.
No one is dribbling this Euro.. I'm pretty sure and someone can bring up stats, that someone like Messi has more dribbles in a single Copa America than the entire Euro squad combined so far. And now they probably count, running past the player 4-5m away using pace as "dribbling" because the stats would otherwise look depressing.
If you want to watch (unsuccessful) dribblings, watch our Sané.
That the poor display of talent is indicative of us going through a slump in talent. Obviously the players are talented. But on average, they are less talented than players on the previous 30 or so years.
The poor level of performance at this Euros is a reflection of us going through a slump of talent. Obviously the players are talented, but on average, they are less talented than the players of the previous 30 or so years. We are seeing lower than expected performance because the talent is lesser.
Poland is not so bad. It's Austria that is so good
Switzerland🇨🇭and Austria 🇦🇹 will play each other in the semifinals
Anthony Taylor got played for a fool with Spain diving and clutching their face when never touched. Spain scored their goal from that. Just saw it again in extra time and he fell for it. I hate Spain. Why isn't called out by the announcers?
Spai or France will win it
But i think Spain have more chance to win than France
I think Albania more deserved r16 than England.
The group stage of world cup 2022 was way more entertaining than this euro with all the upsets and stuff. But Qatar being a shitty host and recency bias have made people say the opposite.
Group stage until now was very entertaining imo with many great matches. Group C is the exception for sure
It has nothing on the world cup 2022 group stage
English players are completely overrated.
It said least popular
Any team from the right side of the playoff bracket can end up in the finals...
Portugal will win
It is unpopular but not sure why. Portugal are probably most aggresive team this Euro, they are constantly attacking and if they lose the ball they get it back in a metter of seconds. Once they tune in their crosses and start finding Ronaldo it is gonna be over for the other teams
Yikes
Players are playing with so much heart this Euro but the level of quality, even from the top teams is laughably bad. It seems like 10-15 years ago we had insane numbers of players that could produce magic either by dribbling past 4-5 players or scoring screamers every other game. Now it seems like players are meh even the top ones but they are playing with so much heart that they make up for the lack of skill. One of the best Euros in my opinion already...
I think you are just remembering nostalgia. You only remember the good players.
This
The gap between S Tier and B Tier is closing. Less easy to dribble around opponents. Better positioning, ergo less long shot goals. Quality all in all has gone up. It just did not translate to "watchability".
I agree that the average player has improved and especially positioning but talent and inviduals that could produce magic has reduced and no one can convince me otherwise. I can bring top 100 players even from just late 2000s (those that played Euro) and we can compare each one of them on an invidual level but that would be pointless and a waste of time.
