We may still have months or years left with her, but my heart is already broken. It’s the price we pay to have all of those incredible years with them, but the thought of losing her is breaking me. Where does the time go?
Found out that my sweet old girl has kidney disease today and feel like I’m grieving her already.
They're a part of your life
But you're all of theirs
Oh this.
She seems like a lovely girl
She’s the loveliest, most gentle soul and I’m so honoured to have had her by my side for 11 years so far. I know I won’t ever be, but I’m not ready to say goodbye.
My last lab had kidney disease and there are things you can do to slow the progression. Obviously medication, there's also a special diet you can give them which is really easy to make it home and waaay cheaper than buying dog food.
Hey the good news is, this kind of grieving is actually a healthy way to cope. Being openly upset about this sort of thing is exactly what you should be doing. It's a sad thing to go through! Feel your feelings!
It still sucks though and I'm sorry you have to experience it. At least you know that you had something great if you're this sad about losing it
It's the purest love we'll ever know.
I read something once, and it always stayed with me. Someone was asked what the hardest part of having a dog was. And they replied, "The goodbye."
I hope your girl has many, many more years.
❤️
😭 I'm so sad to read this... She has the most irresistible face I've ever seen.
Losing them isn't even the hard part..its the days afterwards without them that ate the worst. I genuinely feel for you. My 13 year old husky was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer and I have been dreading every day since.
One thing I bought after the diagnosis that SERIOUSLY made a difference was turkey neck mushrooms. About 25 bucks on Amazon and I swear the difference in her mood, attitude, energy and eating habits were like night and day. I can't link unfortunately but the name is:
Doggie Herbs Immunity for Dogs Organic Mushrooms 22.3% Beta Glucan - Canine Health & Immunity Boost Dog Supplements - Herbal Powder w Dose Scoop -100g
I believe with medicine and perhaps special diet it does not have to be the end. I just lost my Kobe in February and he had kidney problems for three years
All you can do is make each day her best day until you can't. Give her so many hugs she gets annoyed. ❤️
Take heart. My pup was diagnosed with kidney disease and she lasted another ten years (up to age 14) with prescription food and meds. I truly wish the same for you. What a sweetheart!
This! Yes! OP I’m so sorry for what you’re going through but this can be manageable. I’m currently going through it with my soul dog and doing everything in my power and he’s doing really well! Regular checkups and the right meds will hopefully help you guys as much as they did us ❤️
Aww. She looks like a really sweet pupper.
Your furbaby is sweet and make a lot of memories with her.
My first dog ever growing up had kidney disease. They gave him 3-6 months. Eventually he passed 2 years later. My current dog was diagnosed with liver cancer 2 years ago, she had a check up on Friday… her mass doubled in size and her liver enzymes have tripled but she’s acting totally fine!!! I was already grieving her when I got the bad news on Friday. I know it’s so damn hard. Just give her every ounce of love you possibly can! Best of luck to you and your girl 💚💚💚
My dog was also diagnosed with kidney disease stage 3. They gave her 4-6 months…that was a year ago. She is still alive and is currently whining for a snack. So there is hope!
Ahhh the poor fur baby 😢. She looks so cute.
I’m so sorry ! My 13 yr old English lab passed way from kidney disease last year. It is not easy. He developed seizures shortly after diagnosed. It might be a good idea to ask your vet for some seizure meds. just in case to have them handy. He had 3 in a weeks span and I opted to not be selfish bc he also developed blindness and became deaf. I am now in tears for you and bc I miss my boy so much. I feel your pain and I’m so sorry. :(
He lived 6 months after being diagnosed
My Hurley Man <3
❤️
Precious girl ❤️
I’m sorry! Spend your time with her not thinking about that so you can have happy memories 💕🥹
What a sweet girl. I love her ears. Cherish her ❤️ I know you do
💖🙏
My cat lived years after his kidney disease/failure diagnosis. Medication can do wonders.
Aww mann sorry!!
My old dog had CKD for several years. She ate prescription food and was doing well. But she developed a terrible pancreatic cancer at 12 years which led to her death. Prior, I had an older cat with CKD, very common in cats. She too was doing well on prescription food, died of untreatable cancer.
So sorry. She's beautiful. Please give her a hug from the cats and me.
Poor baby.... I'm so sorry.
It’s the hardest thing we do as dog parents. Give her all your love like always and thank her for being you BFF. Finally let her know you’ll be okay when she’s ready to go to the rainbow bridge. Sending love and light.
🥺💔🙏
Poor puppy!
Sending love ❤️. She’s so pretty
I am so sorry 😞
What a face, so adorable. So sad to hear. Our dog was just diagnosed with kidney disease too. We’ve got her on special low protein diet which will hopefully keep her with us longer. Here’s hoping your pooch is with you for a long time to come
My dog has had kidney issues since he was a 1 or so. He takes pills for the rest of his life, is now 7, but the doctor told us he will make it to 10 or 11. Can’t bear the thought of losing him. Make sure there’s nothing you can do before you grieve and if you can’t spoil her to the max.
🙏🏻🙏🏻😞
❤️❤️❤️
Can you look into DR Harvey miracle food? I add boiled chicken with and and sweet girl bounced back from brink of death. It's slightly pricey but kibble is death so , I did what I have to do.
That sweet face! I'm sorry to hear about your buddy. Treat every day like it could be your last with her. It's encouraging, though, that several have said that their dogs have gone on to do well with medication and diet for quite some time after their diagnosis! I truly hope that happens for your sweet girl too! ❤️
Please keep an eye on her and don't let her suffer. I know from experience what you're going through.
My Rottie's and I wish you both all the best. There never is enough time.
I have loved and lost a few pets in my life. It is best to emotionally prepare yourself for what is to come instead of acting like everything is okay as long as they are still alive.
I lost a cat to feline leukemia a few weeks ago. I loved her so much, but I was ready. I have ugly cried several times both before and after her passing, but when the time finally came, it wasn't a total shock to my system.
The worst thing about pets is that we almost always outlive them. All the other stuff is great.
I hope your dog's kidney disease is treatable and the coming times treat you both as well as possible.
It’s so hard!!!
Love that face! Just keep loving her up and I'm sorry.
Grief often begins before the loved one in question is gone. Grief is a temporary insanity instigated by the pain of loss.
I’m so sorry. They are the best. She is so beautiful! Prayers for her.
❤️❤️❤️
Enjoy each day. Save the grief for when it is due, do not let it spoil now. I am very sorry for you both.
I am so sorry and feel your pain. Your feeling of grief is completely normal when you love your beautiful dog so much and a diagnosis like hers is always a shock, reminding us of their mortality. We assume they will always be with us.
From someone who has been in your position, I would like to offer some advice: please focus on making every day you have left as special in some small way, creating lots of memories. As my old boy went downhill rapidly with liver disease, I was in a state of 'anticipatory grief' for the last two weeks of his life. Whilst we still built more memories together, I spent too much time mourning him whilst he was alive. It is so easy to say, but mourn her when she is not with you and the emptiness is real. It may be that she still has a lot of time left with you and you do not want to live the rest of her life mourning her.
I would also advise to take as many photos and videos as possible as there are never enough when they are gone. I had literally thousands and thousands of my old rescue boy but when I realised I had no new memories to look at, it choked me up.
Enjoy every precious moment with her. All she understands is how much she loves you.
Oh shit. This is sad
What a beautiful girl 🥰 It’s manageable with prescription diet and few tablets a day.
Is this sub just dead or dying dog pics now? It's a but much
What a beauty! ❤️ Enjoy your remaining time with her!
I had that happen too. She was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and I just broke down.
She lived another 2.5 years after that and passed way at 16. I don’t know how much it helped but we switched her diet to people food with low protein & phosphorus.
But however much time you have left with your baby girl, just cherish it. And know that you gave her a life of happiness, snuggles, and in comparison with the rest of the animal kingdom, pretty much luxurious royalty. 😊
I wonder whether dog food has some unhealthy elements. My JRT got kidney disease too and I seem to hear this a lot from other pet owners.
Kidney failure is brutal. They stop eating and wither away to nothing. It's ghastly. Prepare yourself.
That face makes me want to kiss her nose!
I went through this last year. In January my 14 year old dog had a seizure. The checkup at the Vet’s showed that he was in grade 3 congenital heart failure. My vet said it’d be around 12 weeks, maybe a bit later if we were lucky. AND he said that every dog knows how much time his human needs to come to terms with the end. OP, I cried for weeks. Then someone on Reddit told me to recognize that my dog takes his cues from me. So I tried my best to be as normal as possible. Last June, my boy breathed his last. He was suffering that last week and I told him that he could go to Nana.
Cry if you feel like it - your dog is worth every tear. And then, make the remaining time just the best time for both of you. All the best.
Take her to do awesome stuff and give her really yummy foods!
Such a wise, kind face! Our beloved Lucky lived to be 18 and that still wasn't enough time. He had strokes at the end and passed less than one minute after his "person" came home from work. Cherish your memories.
Time.......
you have some time. Use it. ❤️
My Dante was diagnosed with 49% kidney function 2 years ago. The vet suggested that we put him down. The only solution to prolong his life was to give him sub Q IV fluids every other day. We did this for him and got 2 extra years of love and joy. The vet can teach you how to do this at home at a fraction of the cost.
Yeah but how far along? There are so many ways to deal
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m so sorry. 😔
I’m so sorry
My 11 year old white lab was diagnosed two years ago. He’s doing well. Prescribed k/d diet food and gets his kidney values checked regularly.
I’m so sorry
as someone who had a pup who got the same news, it’s really really hard and i’m so so so sorry you’re having to go through this. but don’t give up hope, my pup was given a couple of months at best, but he ended up living a couple more years up til he was 14. i know it’s a hard process and your pup will have really good and really bad days but the best thing you can do for her is to just be there for her as much as you possibly can. you and your pup will be in my thoughts <3
I felt that way when our Yorkie, Riley, was diagnosed with heart disease. We had another precious year and a half with him. It’s never easy. Cherish every moment. 💕
She’s adorable. Love and hugs to you both.
Dog ownership is kind of hard. You put all this love into something knowing that it will most likely pass before you. All you can do is make their time enjoyable.
