I implore Lions fans to come out tomorrow (May 18th) at 4pm to see the last Panthers home game of the season. Tickets are dirt cheap. Come see a soon to be legendary NFL kicker in action. The game should be a smackdown, I'm calling the Panthers to lay down 40+ points on the Showboats. It will quench your football thirst in during this off-season drought.
Would love to see him in a Lions uniform, but the dude is gonna take the best deal offered to him. This is his shot to make generational wealth. He’s not a seasoned kicker that can take a team friendly deal, so I don’t blame him if he doesn’t just pick the Lions. I hope we make him a competitive offer but wish him the best however it plays out.
I mean even the lowest paid kickers in the league make stupid money. The lowest paid kickers are tied at just almost $800,000 he’d have to play 10 XFL seasons to make that kind of money.
Sure but we aren’t comparing XFL $ here. He will be kicking in the NFL next year after his performance on the Panthers this season. If your favorite team offered you $800k and another team offered you $2m which would you take at 24 years old? You have to take the $.
That’s true I’d def take the money I was just more or less making a point that even the lowest contract would be game changing money for him. I hope we make a competitive offer
absolutely true. won't blame him for taking the best contract he can get.
And why wouldn't we pay the dude? It's a huge need and this FO definitely takes ST seriously.
I think that if Holmes is interested, we have a good shot. Obviously, money talks to an extent, but we are fairly attractive as a SB contender. Wouldn't be a bad spot for a kicker to land, especially since the organization has shown that we are willing to reward players for their work.
Add in the familiar setting and a whole bunch of indoor games…
We got 5 million in cap left and should get a little more with Sutton no longer on the team, our weakest spot left on the team probably is kicker.
We still have about $5 million in cap space after the Goff extension, and I think that's the last extension for the year? So in theory we could offer him a decent bag for a kicker. Especially if we end up dropping Badgley later on, who sits at about $1.3 million. I could easily see us spending $2 million on him, assuming that we have the money to spend. Though I doubt anyone signs him for more than a year, since there's tons of stories of amazing kickers fizzling once they join the league.
The plus side is that he may be more likely to go with us if our offer is the same or similar to the next top paying offer, since he won't need to move. Then again, the exact opposite might be true -- he was born in Texas and has only lived in Michigan for a year. Everyone knows someone who has come here from a warmer state, and can tell you how much they froze their ass off their first couple winters.
Edit: UFL teams all live in Texas during the season, so he likely just lives there during the off-season as well. So home town advantage is definitely not in our favor. Boo.
What Brad needs to do is hook him up with a nice Michigan girl and have her tell him she's not leaving the state.
That'll do it. Worked on me more than once.
Get him a Taylor-tucky chick
MASTER BATES, MASTER BATES, MASTER BATES!
I implore people not to do this. He's undoubtedly heard this through his entire life.
But do come out and support!
We need to chant his name at Tigers games
I have a BOGO code if anyone wants it.

Thanks, worked well for 4 tickets!
Thanks! Just used this as well :)
Guys, you got a taste of the ticket prices for The Lions. Get your asses down here and watch some football where you don't have to take out a home equity loan to go!
Idk if it was a mistake, but I saw preseason tickets for 500$. Regular season was batshit crazy
No, I don't think that was a mistake. I think it's the price of success and what everyone has to deal with until some kind of regulation is forced on Ticketmaster to stop the bot/resale frenzy that happens with popular events.
A group of us are going down there. I’m not passing up the chance to be able to say I saw our future HOF kicker before he made it to the NFL!
Gonna be there with the whole family, since we can’t afford to get into Ford Field any other time this year….
Why does everyone assume we get him? I don't think the the usfl is a farm league for the NFL. He could go anywhere.
We're not assuming, we're just hoping. He will be a UDFA, so the Lions can easily make a nice offer, and he wouldn't even have to move.
UFL teams all practice in Texas, they only come to Michigan on game days.
Interesting, I had no idea.
He already has a locker at Ford Field, it just makes sense for him to stay here.
We’re one of a handful of teams that need a kicker and he’s already here. Not saying that means anything but Lions should have a leg up on rest of the teams
Panthers games are a good time.
I’ve explored on reddit the mystery of why college kickers don’t translate as well to the NFL as you would expect given, unlike at other football positions, so very few factors are different between the two levels. The best theory I’ve seen put forth is the difference in the actual football. The NFL’s is apparently harder.
Does anyone happen to have knowledge as to whether the UFL uses the same football as the NFL?
I've had my tickets since last Sunday
Honestly, and this is just me: I'd offer this dude a 15 year, $30 million dollar deal with $11 million guaranteed:
- Year 1: $1,200,000
- Year 2: $1,200,000
- Year 3: $1,200,000
- Year 4: $1,400,000
- Year 5: $2,000,000
- Year 6: $2,000,000
- Year 7: $2,000,000 (guaranteed money met)
- Year 8: $2,375,000
- Year 9: $2,375,000
- Year 10: $2,375,000
- Year 11: $2,375,000
- Year 12: $2,375,000
- Year 13: $2,375,000
- Year 14: $2,375,000
- Year 15: $2,375,000
If he isn't the greatest kicker of all time, or something happens to him, you can cut or trade him any time after year 7 with no issue. He gets a tad expensive by kicker standards in year 8 (bear in mind that Justin Tucker makes $6 million a year), but that's fine if he's a still dude who can kick 60 yarders like they're extra points, and by then I'd imagine the cap will be so high that he's still going to be less than 1% of it. We get our kicker for at least the next decade, and this dude would get paid what the best deserves to be paid, over time, similar to Patrick Mahomes, whose cap hit is ridiculously low due to the length of his contract.
If he or his agent don't think it's enough, you could sweeten the deal with more guaranteed money (i.e. years 8, 9, 10 salary could become fully guaranteed), but as kickers are insanely low-risk in terms of injury, chances are the guy would wind up making all $30 million. If that number wasn't enough to get him to sign, the Lions could probably push it all the way to $50 million without too much trouble.
I’ll be there tmr!
On TV it's on Fox, then the YouTube channel The Comeback Period uploads full games shortly after airing. As far as other means, ye booty may be on another ship matey
Bro its just on free broadcast TV

Didn't he get signed by Denver
He missed a 51 yard attempt in game 8. So only 10 out of 11 attempts made. He obviously sucks.
I have my tickets for my wife and brother! Driving from GR.
They would have to pay me to go out there and watch Brian Lewerke throw a bunch of lame ducks for 3 hours
Wear some Lions gear and chant his name when he makes a kick. Let's put some hometown love on it, make him want to be here.
