I have suffered from chronic hives. They plague my very existence. I am trying cutting out dairy to see if that helps. The reason I think it may be dairy is because I use Dr. Teals bath bubbles from them to time with no issue. One time i used one called milk and honey which contained milk proteins. When I used that particular bubble bath I had a skin reaction. Here's to hoping this works!
This is awesome.
I have chronic hives. Mine are idiopathic, it means they don't know why. I get a monthly shot, no hives.
Have you been to the doctor? What do they say?
Is it dupixent, by any chance? My doctor brought it up
No, xolair,.been getting it for 10 years
Hives are definitely an allergic response and medical tests can check for allergies. (AFAIK, there is no medical test to check for intolerances or sensitivities.)
If you aren’t able to get medical allergy tests, an elimination like you propose can be telling. For food, please carefully read all labels and look up restaurant nutrition info online. Dairy shows up in the most unusual places, like McDonald’s french fries in the US. I’m told there is no dairy in McDonald’s fries in other countries.
Allergies are IgE antibodies, you can have tests for IgG antibodies which are lower immune responses (not intolerances). I'm mildly sensitive to a few foods and really high but not allergy level reactions to dairy (cow and goat, but not horse or camel...not that I've tried them, would rather go without!). But yes, there are some tests that will give more info.
Thanks. I took Dr administered allergy tests and everything came back negative. I did a dairy elimination diet and all my symptoms went away. I guess that means I’m sensitive to/intolerant of dairy, but not allergic. I have zero digestive problems… I get cystic acne, mouth ulcers, and constant thick throat phlegm.
Sounds pretty definitive!!
My immune system has a personal grudge against milk proteins, but I would not overlook the possibility of a honey allergy.
Good luck! Also check your meds! Allergy meds in particular like montelukast and zyrtec’s standard formulations have lactose…
Good luck!
If you're trying to eliminate it completely, here's a good list of things to look for that you might want to avoid: https://godairyfree.org/dairy-free-grocery-shopping-guide/dairy-ingredient-list-2
It's a learning curve but it gets easier!
