Shouldn't be too hard probably lol
'It doesn't do anything!' 'No, it does nothing'
Null rod???
Nullified null rod
[[Null Rod|WTH]]
What the hell
Love that Weatherlight's set abbreviation is Qhat The Hell.
Reminds me of this short...where he makes a "blue" and a "nothing".
Unfortunately, it'll say to remove the words ' ' from the tecxt of the ability of spell
Naw. It just now has the ability to remove spaces on a card so it makes it harder for people to read the card effect.
[[Grave Pact]] just becomes “Whenever a creature dies, each other player sacrifices a creature” which just wipes your opponents’ boards every time anything dies
Based as fuck
[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call
Wouldn't your creature's die aswell
Nope. It’s still “each other player” which means “each player other than you”.
Isn’t this an infinite loop trigger? Creature dies and then they are forced to sac again, and again due to sac counting as creature dying?
Yep. It’s infinite until all the creatures are dead and there’s nothing else to trigger the deaths.
Fair lol
each other player sacrifices a creature
Meaning not the controller of Grave Pact.
Got it
I might be wrong but, wouldn't that target the ability on the stack and not the text of the card?
Yep. Target grave pact itself while it’s on the stack. Then it enters with the modified wording.
Oh, I see. I was asuming you were targeting the ability of Grave Pact, not the spell Grave Pact... Now it makes sense.
As is that would work really well with the infinite cat loop I have seen around here a few times
Nope, because the ability never triggers on another player's creature death. Since it's never on the stack, it can't be targeted.
You target the grave pact itself while you’re casting it. Then it enters the battlefield with the modified ability.
I think that would change the text of the spell, but not the resulting permanent, no?
112.4. If an effect of a resolving spell or ability changes any characteristics of a permanent spell, the effect continues to apply to the permanent when the spell resolves. See rule 400.7. Example: If an effect changes a black creature spell to white, the creature is white when it enters the battlefield and remains white for the duration of the effect changing its color.
Directly from the comprehensive rules
Oh neat. Yeah I guess that works.
“Change the text of target spell or ability by removing all instances of “you control.” If you controlled that spell or ability, you may choose new targets for it.” is probably black-bordered rules text. You’d just have to go through every card with those words on them to make sure nothing game-breaking in a rules sense happens.
[[Earthcraft]] reads tap all your opponent's creatures forever and net mana off each one.
[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call
No, it would be that it taps one creature and would cost you a mana, unless you have other cards in play that make the ability cheaper and untap
Earthcraft become Tap target creature: Untap target basic land.
Tap opponents creature net a mana off a basic
Yeah, you still have to pay 2 mana and tap Imp’s Scissors to use is ability
you pay 2 mana once to make earthcraft target anything, then you tap one of your opponents creatures and untap one of your own lands, than rinse and repeat
At least this version would just slowly lose its text if it targets itself.
Already found a potential infinite loop with [[Grave Pact]]
[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call
Well no, you wouldnt. Balancing is based around what happens in the average case, not necessarily whats possible in a niche scenario
Ah yes! [[Revel in Riches]] can now read
At the beginning of your upkeep, if ten or more Treasures, you win the game.
It's broken. It's very easy to ten or more treasures
We finally broke revel in riches

Why do that when we can play [[Earthcraft]] for 2 mana and slow the game to no more combat?
[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call
Doesn't matter it will be negated anyway.
[[Nadu]] suddenly becomes a group hug card.
Or [[Paradoxical Outcome]] becomes even more ridiculous.
Nadu becomes group hug 😂🤣
Best find so far lol! 💯
Panharmonicons affect everyone!
[[Floodbringer]] is suddenly an amazing card (it was printed like that in portuguese and I did some horrendous shit with it until I found out about the mistranslation)
EDIT: Actually, the portuguese text on gatherer still doesn't specify lands you control... weird
Portugal players have the best land hate
The portuguese translations of mtg actually use brazillian portuguese, and I'm brazillian, so yeah, screw colonizers, we're gonna make them return our gold in tournament money with this shit lol
Obligatory /j
Brazilian players have the best land hate
EDIT: Actually, the portuguese text on gatherer still doesn't specify lands you control... weird
Gatherer shows you the text on the card as printed, even if it has errors.
On the printed card, yes, what I mean is the portuguese oracle text hasn't been errata'ed
EDIT: Which is arguably understandable, since that card never saw a reprint, but it makes me wonder if wotc is aware of the error, since official errata is always updated in the oracle, even before reprints
Oracle text only exists in English. Other languages don't actually have it. It's weird as shit but it's how the game rules sets it up to have consistent wording and interpretation of the rules on each card, by simply ignoring other languages.
Ok, TIL I guess. Weird tho. Not that it matters much, fuckin wotc is gonna stop translating products into portuguese soon anyways
I think the oracle text exists in English only for clarity. The comprehensive rules were originally written in English, and the cards were designed by an English speaking design team.
Magic is very complex. And due to some quirks about how English works (due to being a Germanic language that is heavily latinized) it frequently doesn't translate directly into other languages very well. (I don't know if this issue ever applied to magic specifically but for instance English doesn't have gendered nouns, we simply use 'the').
So I think the Oracle text is in English to specifically avoid lost in translation problems. I know this causes huge issues for non-native speakers, but I don't think it's WOTC being assholes about it.

[[Earthcraft]] to make sure those pesky creatures do nothing.
[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call
After a 2 and tap: “Remove the words from the text of target spell or ability. Text within parentheses may not be removed” for the rest of the game
Edit: Please don’t upvote me I’m an idiot
"Return all nonland permanents don't to their owners' hands."
[[Panharmonicon]] effects become funny as fuck, since you snip them off your opponents. [[Seedborn Muse]] too.
[[Second Harvest]] is good, [[Grave Pact]] becomes a one sided boardwipe anytime something dies. [[Brass's Bounty]] becomes a game ending ritual.
[[Gaea's Cradle]] or [[Tolarian Academy]] especially Academy are probably the strongest cards you can affect with this. Idk if itd be viable but in Vintage making your Tolarian Academy tap for every artifact on the battlefield seems p busted.
[[Earthcraft]] let's you endlessly tap down other people's creatures if that counts for anything.

Really funny with fight spells. [[Prey upon]]
This would be realllly fun tbh as a silver border. Too strong for regular play, but it would be a lot of fun in an undeck
My first thought [[Despotic Scepter]] but it doesn't even work. Bummer, I want that card to be good somehow.

Spellskite gets a huge upgrade from this.
Ephemerate
Just target itself, now it says to remove the words from the text of the ability or spell. Now it makes anything do nothing.
