If your gym allowed you to pay what you think their service is worth? Coaching, equipment, facility, hours, etc.
More, less or equal to your current monthly rate. Just curious.

Yup same here in Denmark. I pay €60 / $70 per month for unlimited classes and open gym. Can’t imagine having to pay double that!
Sounds even better, I couldn't imagine either (let alone triple what we pay). You can get a good personal trainer for that money...
That’s crazy, I live in Germany and pay 129€ a month for unlimited. Our unlimited student membership is already 69€ a month. All the boxes in my area have similar prices
Munich. I pay €90 for 3x / week. In the USA it was $185 for unlimited (Boston area)
Just remember that the gym owners here have to pay for healthcare here and with just a few employees it is expensive.
Gym owners can pay for healthcare here, but most don't and if you employ less than like 50 people you don't have to which is pretty normal for a gym to have less than 50, way less.
Living in the Netherlands as well. I pay 72 euro's for unlimited. Happy to pay it, we have great coaches, a lot of timeslots for workouts and they really listen to our input.
Depends where you are... i live in the Netherlands too and pay 70 euro for 3 times a week or 90/100 for unlimited
Which seems still okay, seeing some of the prices mentioned here...
Our club doesn't have unlimited, the highest is 5x a week for 64,50 - but we do get full access to the (fitness) gym with all subscriptions.
Also in NL (bigger city) and I pay 69 a month do unlimited. But I feel like their are going to increase their prices soon as they are expanding the hours
Nice!
50€ per month (Eastern Poland) for unlimited access. It does not seem much, but when you compare to regular gyms charging you half of that it is a lot.
True, but you do get a different workout, a coach and a great community :)
If the price was a lot higher though, I probably wouldn't do it...
That's the problem for a lot od new people that are just starting. A lot would like to give it a try but the price scares them off. One free wod does not help. I got into crossfit because at my box they offered one week for free, and then a discount for first month. Plus the box was closer than my gym.
Dutchie in the city here. I pay 100 euro per month for 13 credits. Classes max 10 people. I still think it's value for money
My last gym had a great facility and good coaches but was about $170 a month, honestly it's just too much, that's a little over 2k a year per person. It was just me but I couldn't imagine paying with a wife or kid, easily could spend 5k a year on the gym.
It's been one of the biggest reasons I've left crossfit, it's just too expensive. I'd willingly pay maybe $100 a month.
My wife and I were paying over $300/month, so expensive. Once we got our house, we stopped and were able to buy a house gym in under a year...also cuts back on commute time (hour round trip)
This is my eventual plan, I'll probably buy a house next year, and then I'll take the 150$ a month I would have spent at a crossfit gym and somewhat quickly build my own garage gym that is just as nice if not better.
If crossfit want's to keep growing they have to figure out how to cut their costs because most gyms I know charge 150-210 a month and nobody in there is rich, not even the owners. In general, no one is getting rich at crossfit and yet everyone is paying a fortune.
I love crossfit and happily pay my fees. But the responses to this post clearly show how crossfit is not "for everyone". Barrier to entry is way too high. It's not to say that the gyms are charging too much. It's just kind of sad that the best form of qorking out IMO, is just so inaccessible to so many.
Agree
aren't all gyms kinda pricey? in hungary, a "normal" gym session, a yoga class and a crossfit class are all in the same price range.
I'm in Canada. Crossfit is generally about 175-225 a month for unlimited. Yoga wouldn't be too far oof, probably closer to 150. And regular gym memberships range from 10/month to 100/month. Again it's not the value of what your getting at a crossfit gym (attention from the trainers, the programming etc) it's just that $200 a month is out of the question for a lot of people. And like I said I think this is the best holistic form of working out so the fact it's inaccessible seemingly across the globe is sad
i see. we don't really have such price differences in my home town
I'm in Canada too and only pay 72 CAD for unlimited crossfit per month. I guess eastcoast is a bit cheaper.
I should've specified Toronto.
Yes, and no, Yoga gyms in the USA can be expensive but lots of them range in the 80-120$ a month area, while crossfit gyms have lately been $170 even up to $210 a month.
Your average retail gym can be anywhere from 10-100$ a month, with most being under 40$
In the us, I have paid $99 a month for unlimited yoga classes at a studio.
My CrossFit gym is $185 a month with set class times.
I love CrossFit but have a huge problem with the cost. I get that the equipment and overhead is expensive but I feel that the price is excessive. ( yes I know the coaching is a perk, but they’re not even certified personal trainers at my gym, just people who took the weekend course). The more expensive chain gyms near me are around $50-$80 a month and that usually includes a pool, sauna, showers etc.
What I think CrossFit is worth is $100 a month. The same as the other places with classes in my area
I'm fine paying 139 for unlimited classes and open gym along with olympic weightlifting classes when I can make the times.
I think it's more than fair compared to the others around the area and it's only 2 miles away.
If I paid less fees at crossfit I would probably upgrade my commercial gym from a $10 one to the $35 one by my house for my bodybuilding days.
2 miles is 3.22 km
We have an unlimited family plan for $200 a month. I’d up it to 300 if it gave me 24/7 access to facilities for open gym
Dang, where?
Lol rural Pennsylvania.
Is there child-care involved in this?
Ehh more like your kids can play with our kids. There is a cf kids class Thursday nights
I pay $205 at my gym for the same. But I’m in Philly and city prices tend to skew higher because you know: city.
I currently pay $250 for unlimited classes and open gym. Classes also include weightlifting, strength, and motor classes. While I love my box, Id rather be paying around $150 for all of it.
$3000/yr is a big price tag for a dirty gym with no showers. I love CF but these numbers are crazy.
This was my exact answer as well, similar class situation too. Unfortunately in a high cost of living area I don't think it will ever be as low as $150/month.
I paid $115/mo to $150/mo for 6 yrs. It was worth it in many ways, but I think it was too high.
Being away from CF for nearly 2 yrs I’ve gained some perspective. I think $70-$100/mo is what it’s “worth”. I’m struggling to return at the $130/mo price point (despite my finances being better than ever).
CF is too expensive.
After years of receiving good coaching;I know the movements, I know my body, I know what I’m capable of and what I’m not, I feel like I can judge programming as good or bad, I can scale anything without input. Acquiring this knowledge has made paying for coaching/programming a difficult pill to swallow.
But you acquired all of these skills from years of ‘good coaching’ so surely you understand that paying for good coaching is worth it in the end?
You are the proof of this.
But it’s a diminishing return to pay for a membership, a membership that continues to go up.
In hindsight, I think CrossFit was too expensive and continues to cost too much. If the model is temporary customers, like a personal trainer does, so be it. But I was under the impression that I was intended to practice CF for a lifetime, and at $150/mo, it’s not something I want to pay for in perpetuity.
A little surprised by the responses here. No one who owns a crossfit gym is getting rich, unless they've got a secondary income.
Grabbing from some responses below, say you're paying $165.month. Roughly $2,000 per year. If your gym was 100 members and 4 coaches, they'd be taking in 200k per year, paying taxes, insurance and rent plus buying new equipment occasionally. Maybe that leaves then with $150k, and your owner's going to want a little more than a regular coach, so say your owner earns $50k per year and each coach makes $33k, then pays tax on that. Does those seem like adequate salaries for what they're providing?
I agree that there's a barrier to entry, and some gyms have dumb policies about how long you have to commit. But in general I would trust that whatever your gym is charging, is right around what they need to have a little bit of breathing room and keep coaches. And if your monthly fees aren't going up 3-5% every year, that means your coaches pay probably isn't keeping up with inflation.
It's easy to say $150-$200 a month is "too much". If you're only earning $30k per year, after taxes paying 10% of your net income for crossfit does seem like a lot. But when you compare the services of $10-$100 per month for a globo-gym where there is no program, no guidance, no one checking your form and keeping you safe. On the flip side a personal trainer is going to charge you $75-150 per session. That would really add up.
$100/max. I don’t care how nice the gym is.
Currently pay $170 for unlimited, would prefer to do a 3 day/week for $100-$125 just because of schedule conflicts with my kids
I feel like my crossfit gym is over priced in general. If they allowed more "open gym" use, it would be more palatable, but they only have 3 "open gym" hours a week. Thats my biggest complaint. They should let the members come in and workout! Even when a class is going, there is plenty of room to lift weights or hit the bike/rower!
I still love the programming, members, and coaches though, so I continue to pay haha...
$159 for unlimited.
$40AUD per week in Australia. Worth it.
This is a hard question for me, because it’s base off of community provided as well.
I recently moved from Charleston Sc to Houston to be closer to family as I myself am starting one.
Charleston, has an amazing community! Several times my owner sent people to other gyms because the other gyms had Programing more specified for what that person wanted to do, really into competing? Go to gym X, just trying to get in shape go to gym Y, the best coaching for gymnastic movements in gym Z. They have an awesome staff would ask other coaches to come in and teach specific things. I had that plus open gym 8 hours a day plus virtual classes. That for 115 a month.
Houston, I’ve been to 6 gyms now trying them out, 2 I have stayed at longer than a month. No community in the area, no specification on what you want to do, a large majority have just 2 class times 5 am and 6 pm all asking for 160 plus a month.
I would pay Houston prices for Charleston’s CrossFit but in Houston I just built a home gym and are following my old gyms Programing because this area feels sad.
For H-town ppl, I’m in northwest Houston if you have any suggestions I’m all ears.
Edit: grammar
I'm not unhappy paying $160/mo but if it were less I'd be be spending the same or more on PT. I'd also like to be able to 'tip' my coaches conveniently.
Your coaches shouldn’t need tips. That culture is horrible and needs to end.
.... That's just your opinion, man. Need isn't the word. I want to tip them. I'm saying that otherwise you kinda have to wait and give seasonal 'gifts' and I'd prefer to gift when I feel like its appropriate but without the personal confrontation.
I pay about $200 a month go 5-6 days a week think that about fair.
I would be happy to pay a maximum of 50. I don't care about teachers or classes, I just want a nice place to train with people.
I remember the time when I could just go to the gym and train, not worry about signing up for classes and planning ahead my schedule.
I pay $185 and it it’s worth it. I could probably go up to $230 before it would start to hurt.
I pay $300 a month but honestly if I could set the price would value it at half that.
Currently paying $110/month for unlimited classes and 24/7 open gym access.
That’s about the max I’d pay really, maybe $130 since I have so many friends here now but any more than that and I can’t justify it, not with every globo gym around here having Olympic plates, bars, and pull-up rigs not to mention the rest of their stuff and those gyms only run around $50-60 per month.
That sounds like amazing value. If my gym offered 24/7 open gym, I'd certainly go more often!
It really is a nice setup, only downside is the open gym can’t be used during classes so like 5-7am or 430-8pm. So like the bulk of when you want to lift.
$170/mo for 3x per week. Wish I could also unlimited open gym, but bumping up from 3x/wk to unlimited is like $80 and I don’t think I’d use it enough to be worth it.
I think our box is pretty fairly priced, I pay 22000 HUF ~ 60 EUR / month, 3 times a week
My local is £80pm which is around $110, coming from a gym where I pay £10pm / $13 it’s very expensive
I pay 83 €/month (Finland, their one month is 108 €) I would pay less than that because there are classes when I get no coaching and it feels like I'm just using equipments. Class size is 22. Open gym times. Maybe 75€ would be better 😀
CHF 200 /month good coaching but I wouldn't pay more than CHF 220
My old crossfit gym cost 7200kr a year (approximately $840) last time I checked. That's way more expensive than a regular gym, but I happily paid it at the time. Classes, open gym, great coaches, friendly people. If it was closer to my house or job, I'd go back in a heartbeat.
While there’s something to be said about attendance frequency targets, in my area globo gyms are offering classes and “cross training” areas and equipment at 50% of the price of a CrossFit gym or less, with 24/7 access.
It’s about the equivalent of $250/mth for a couple’s unlimited access at the cheap gym. My old box has dropped to one class 3 days a week for $320 (no couple discount) post COVID. That’s absolutely unaffordable.
We get a few discounts on our membership. Veteran discount, couples discount, and if you sign up for the 3-month contract when you initially sign up you get locked in at a slightly lower rate. I want to say we pay around $230/month for unlimited classes ($115 per person).
I'd probably pay more. I don't know at what point I'd stop but I think I would go up to close to $200/month per person.
I pay $125 per month. The facility isn’t great but the people & coaches are, so I’m good with the price but wouldn’t pay much more.
Bought a home gym 4 years ago and haven’t looked back.
I have a 10 class punch card for $100 right now. I think it’s a stellar deal. I’m also the ONLY PERSON in class 85% of the time (I go at noon). Taking that into consideration the class is worth probably $25 dollars, maybe more? If the class was full then I’d be happy paying $7 or something.
I pay $120/month unlimited, I’ve been a member for 3 1/2 years and they grandfathered us in. I think it’s around $150/month unlimited now. I’ve also been paying $99/month for nutrition coaching, absolutely worth it! I go 5-6 days a week, sure on paper it would be cheaper to build a home gym, but I need the push to work really hard in class.
We pay $145 for me, then my husband joined and his fee is $120 and my son (he’s a teen) then joined and it’s $110’for him. I honestly wish it was it was more affordable for all of us to go. I can’t keep up that amount too much longer.
my wife and I were paying $320 before leaving our box and building our own home gym. Took 2 months to complete, but should pay for itself in 14 more months lol..
I’m paying €90 a month in Sweden, but where I’m from the membership is like €150-€200 a month
WA State - $300/month for unlimited everything for my Wife, Son and I.
3-6/week for me, 5-8/month my son, 2-3/week my wife.
I think we get a lot out of it but I'd prefer $250.
My old gym was charging 194.00 CAD a month. And they dropped their CrossFit affiliation status. Nice facility but not 200 dollars a month nice.
150/mo, I’d rather pay 125. They’ve cut some class times and we’ve lost some good coaches. They hire someone on, they make a big deal out of them, then we never see them after a class or two. Owner’s wife has turned into a social media whore and uses everything for her soap box.
Shopping 2 other places this week.
I pay $169/month for unlimited. It feels a touch high, but I don't complain. Given the choice, I'd willingly pay $140.
Wow, It seems a lot cheaper here (Netherlands). Currently paying 57 euro a month for 4 times a week. Which I'm happy to pay.
It's probably more expensive in bigger cities over here though.
