I noticed that I have bunch of scrap yarn, I have made few of these kinds of bags from scraps, but there's still a lot of scraps left. So I wonder what you guys make when tou have some scrap yarn left? And what are your favorite things to make from them? ☺️
Oh wow!!! This is beautiful!!!!😍 Actually really great idea for a gift, thank you for sharing!
Omg i LOOOOVVVVEEEEE this! I have a thousand scraps of scrap yarn and need a stash buster project. Did you follow a specific pattern for this, or just make lots of random flowers?
No pattern, I just kept making up flowers until I had a big pile. Then made two leaf garlands and hot-glued everything to a wire frame.
I came here to say flowers as well. That is lovely! 🤩
I made a flower motif once and was really excited to use my scraps for this! Really is the best use, and so so pretty!!!
I love this wreath, and now I know exactly what to make my mom for Christmas! Pretty please post this to my little subreddit, r/ improvfiberarts?
I made this out of scrap back in the day. African flower hexagons.
Oh, this is so beautiful, I like the way you connected them, do you have a pattern or tutorial link for that connecting method?
It was a join-as-you go
http://heidibearscreative.blogspot.com/2011/02/african-flower-hexagon-join-as-you-go.html
Thank you so much!!! Ah, but it's a bit too late for blanket I am making right now, I make sure to remember this for my next blanket project, it really looks amazing!
Baskets ftw!
Oooh! Very interesting idea, I've seen some inspirations for these kinds of baskets, the main problem for me is that they're squishy, I like more structure with these kinds of things. I guess acrylic yarn is a no go if you need structure. But yesss, idea is amazing! Thank you for sharing I really like the lightest basket of yours that holds lip balms (?), looks really cute!
Thanks! I crochet two strands together for structure, cotton or acrylic. I’ve got a huge ball of thrifted white acrylic that I use along with the scrap yarn ( you can see it in the far left basket with the messy charge cords!)
Hmm, I believe I have some cotton yarn, thrifted as well, I'll be sure to give it a try and make a basket for myself ☺️
If you need a firmer/less squishable basket, use more strands of acrylic yarn together at the same time. I’ve done baskets with 4-6 strands & they’ve been somewhat more firm. They also make good cat beds if you change up the dimensions a bit.
I have used 9 yarns depending on the weight. They are not squishy.
Thank you for suggestion, I'll make sure to keep that in mind for my basket or cat bed project!
I make these for all my bathroom drawers - make up, hair products, etc. it’s amazing to organize.
For sure! I forgot to include the basket I made for cotton balls in my photo.
Such cute little baskets! Please consider posting them to my little subreddit, r/ improvfiberarts?
All my small and big scraps are now in there
This looks such a fun cardigan! How long it took tou to make it?
It isn't completely finshed yet, but 5 months on and off. I still want to add a zipper and a hood and maybe pockets.
It looks like such a fun project! ☺️
That’s amazing!!
Thank you!
OMG this is fabulous! I keep meaning to take up freeform crochet; several years ago I freeformed a couple of dice bags for my kids, but haven’t had the courage yet to make anything bigger where lumpiness could be an issue. I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
In the meantime, would you consider posting this to my little subreddit, r/ improvfiberarts? I’d so love that!
Thank you! Freeform crochet is so fun to make. And in terms of lumpiness. Who is gonna see the inside? I also haven't tried blocking it yet.
A bunch of scraps ended up in here.
What an interesting idea!!! It looks lovely!
How clever! Did you use some kind of stabilizer?
Actually nope. They're all just seen together with sewing thread and staying put with the power of gravity. 🤣
The pattern is from here Flower valence curtain
Just a fugly little couch blanket 🥴
I posted this one a couple of days ago. I make lots of them for gifts & projects.
Oh, this is beautifuuuul!!! Do you have a pattern for this bag maybe? It looks amazing, would love to make one like this! ♥️
It's literally a C2C rectangle of various scrap colors, folded in half then the sides are seamed inside. DC's around the top edge, as many rounds as needed, and as many stitches as you want the straps to be.
I like these type straps instead of sewn on, because they won't pull off.
Scan the Net, I KNOW there are free instructions out there for these!
Thank you so much, will do! ♥️
Shawls that make me feel like a fabulous nymph in the woods, and amigurumi dragons!
Both creations (Shawl and dragons) are so beautiful. Huge respect for you because of amirugumi! I just can't make them, hate SC's and it's annoying to work with that stitch 😂
These are supposedly "quick" scrap dragons but they take me ages because I hate the stitch too! I don't make amigurumi often haha I prefer granny squares over everything else
Ahh, I am not the only hater of the stitch, good to know. Yeah, I have to agree, granny squares are awesome!
these dragons make me so happy!!! is there a pattern for them perhaps?
yes, this free pattern is the one I use!
https://stringydingding.com/product/scrap-dragon-amigurumi-pdf-crochet-pattern/
I don’t hate sc but I hate doing it as tight as you have to for amigurumi! I’ve made a few and I love having made them… and I’m not convinced I’m ever going to be able to talk myself into starting another one.
I totally understand you if you don't.
The second bag!! 😍 Do you have a pattern?
I see people using scraps to stuff amigurumi and the like. I always make sure to have scrap lying around to make small things last minute. Like a little flower or christmas hat or cat toy.
We recently cleared out. The bigger balls we donated to the second hand store. Maybe schools, kindergartens or old folks homes are interested?
I recently bought a weaving loom (? Is that the correct term). And am excited to see what I can create, mostly using the scraps!
Thank you so much! I believe I have used this video as a reference and just to learn the pattern at the bottom:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK0aRXvRj4Y&t=17s
I find amirugumi pretty difficult because I just hate working with SC stitches so much, so I try to avoid that, but yeah I've seen that some people use scraps for filling their creations. :)
Oh, do share your creations with weaving loom, I am interested :)
Was actually thinking about making something like that with granny stitch!
I love it because I don’t have to focus on a pattern, I can just mindlessly do clusters of three and do whatever colour I want for each row haha
Oooh, truly good idea for a scarf! Looks amazing! 😍
And they really do make great gifts!
Do you cut each row long for fringe on each end or weave in?
Looks like a knitted slip-stitch scarf I make with scraps called "Mini Mania". I love both methods, knit and crochet.
I leave the ends long to make a fringe--but also, I feel like that makes a very thin fringe, so I add some more yarn before cording or braiding.
Also, do you have a pic of that scarf? If so, I'd love it if you posted it here on my little subreddit!
Here's a narrow one I made for my SIL......and here's the Rav link for the original pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mini-mania-scarf But remember, this one is KNIT, not crochet.
And here's a fun & crazy thing. One single skein of embroidery floss is about 10 yards long. And if you hold 2-3 stands together, they make a fingering weight strand long enough for 1 row on a scarf about 45" long! *LOL* Ask me how I got rid of about 90 skeins of floss I didn't need!!!! Some are in that pic!
Good to know! 😂
I’ve done knitted linen stitch too; it’s super pretty. And also, much slower than crochet, and harder to be sure how long the final scarf will be. I’m all about reducing complication unless the end result is noticeably better, or I enjoy the process more!

Omg I love this!! what stitch is it?
Thank you! It’s the Diamond Cable Blanket. There are really good tutorials on YouTube.
Thank you!
Thank you!
This look so sick!!!!! How long it took for you to make it?
Thank you! Took me about 6 weeks from start to finish
Amazing job!!! Really!
Wow!!!
A scrappy cat! For some reason this is the best pic I have of it on my phone rn lol…
This is soooo cute, the clown one is goegeous, I can't imagine how much time it took to make it!
Tysm! The most time consuming part was definitely attaching all my scraps together haha. Also the clown cat pattern is by @lavenderloopcrochet on Instagram, it’s a really great pattern!
Yeah, I can imagine it was time consuming because I can see a lot of color changes. Even for my bags most time consuming part is actually yarn changes, so yeah understandable haha.
I love the stitch in the first bag
Thank you, I really like how simple it is and it is pretty fast to make them.
Is it two DCs, chain and skip? I love it.
Yes, I believe you're right, I am bad at remembering patterns, but I have used this tutorial: https://youtu.be/dkIQjf0CXlc
I make a big bag of tiny little balls of yarn
Giant scrap blanket so I can always look back and remember old projects
Ah, really good idea! Would take a while to make it as well, thank you for suggestion!
I'm currently making one that's king sized so that It can literally have years worth of project scraps in it. Half double crochet in the back loop, and stacking several strands together and using a 10mm hook. It really eats up the scraps quickly so I like to use it when I'm trying to get rid of half skeins since they're too small for a project but too big to use as stuffy filling.
Sounds amazing, please share when you're done with it, I am really curious to see it! ☺️ Really great way to use up all scraps!
I make piles. Lots of piles. Lolz.
Aww, what a cutie! I actually started my crochet hobby with drawstring bags. Really cute!
Did you follow a pattern for this?! I absolutely need to make one for my brother!
I haven’t gotten around to it yet but my husband has been advocating for a cat pod for the furbabies so I figure that’s what I’ll be using my scrap yarn for.
My daughter likes making bookmarks out of scrap yarn. She found a cute daisy pattern and is creating quite the stash.
First time I'm hearing about crochet cat pod and it's such a cute idea, thank you so much for sharing!!! I'll make sure to look into it. Bookmarks are also really cute idea, I have made some for myself as well, sadly crocheting is taking all my time, so books have to wait 😄
I make amigurumi as well as scarves and such and I use my scraps to stuff the critters.
Huge respect for amirugumi's, they scare me too much 😂
I’m a scrappy blanket girl. It’ll use up every last inch, and now all of my family members have a scrappy blanket in their linen closet. They may not be cute, but they’re a great extra layer to add on the bed on really cold nights.
True, blankets are amazing, even scrap ones. Do you use some kind of pattern for them to make crocheting more interesting? Because sometimes big project with simple stitches can get boring after some time I guess ☺️
I typically don’t. I always have a scrappy blanket going, and it’s never my only project. That way I can pick up some plain, mindless stitching when it suits me and put it back down when it gets boring.
I see, so when you need to take a break from a project you just got to simple blanket crocheting, actually great way to take a break but also use up scraps and don't get bored with a hobby ☺️
This gets all the hearts!💙❤🧡💛💜🖤💚💘💖💗
Thank you so much ♥️♥️♥️
working on ‘deck of cards ‘ cozy
My cats are rough on this part of the cat tree so I wrap my scraps around it for patch jobs
Haha, more scraps from scraps, kitties are happy 😍
My friend teaches elementary art, she does a unit in fiber art. So I give her all mine for the kids to learn finger crocheting.
Oh, that's so sweet!
What beautiful scrap projects! I can't wait to make one of my own!
Thank you so much, sweetie! Do you have any ideas for your own scrap projects?
I had thought of a bag and now I think that's what I'll go with. I love the way ya alls turned out!
Yesss! It's really easy to make and great way to use up some scrap! ♥️ Don't forget to share!
I will!
I don’t have enough scrap yarn yet, but I’m excited to use it when I do!
It's definitely exciting to use scrap up, feels good not to waste anything.
I’ve not crocheted anything with scraps in a while last thing was some xmas ornaments…currently making a really big blanket but it’s knitted. My child how ever has been asking for stuffed animal clothes so I’m thinking maybe scraps for them…it’s the ty sized plushies mostly so scraps might be just right…anyone know some patterns lol
Oooh, your kid has interesting ideas with stuffed animal clothes, I have no patterns but I hope someone can suggest some :)
pattern link for bag pls
First bag: https://youtu.be/dkIQjf0CXlc
Second bag (bottom part): https://youtu.be/XK0aRXvRj4Y
Granny square blankets. I actually have one that's still in progress.
What weight yarn and what size hook did you use for these bags?
I am not sure about yarn weight, because most of them ar mixed and random really. For hook size I believe it was 3.0mm
Baby booties, then donate to charity
I have some booties made, but not sure what to do with them, thank you for reminding me that this is an option!
I found a local church that gives clothes to needy. I found the hospitals were too picky, certain fibres only etc ( yes I know why).
What stitch is that second bag made with?
Here is tutorial for second one (bottom part): https://youtu.be/XK0aRXvRj4Y
that second bag is stunning! how is it made?
Thank you so much, I have used this tutorial (the bottom part): https://youtu.be/XK0aRXvRj4Y?si=elrnDIlUmDw3kNXe
