Hi all! My wife and I hike almost every weekend with our 21 month old.
Our friends invited us to the Incline. We’ve done it once before about 3 years but aren’t sure about doing it with our kid in the backpack. Has anyone done this before?
Those Kelty baby backpacks are trash. Use an Ergo-baby or something similar and it keeps the kid near your back and a predictable CG. Have taken kids up/down ladders at Mesa Verde, down the Grand Canyon, and up easy 14ers (Sherman, just a long walk) in one of those.
I’ve done the Incline tons and do trail running and am super stable on my feet. I personally would not take a kid in a backpack on that hike. People do it but for me, it is not worth the risk. I know how kids can move in a backpack (mine’s 18 now). It’s a safety thing for me.
Not worth the risk IMHO. As the weather is getting warmer, the Incline is more crowded. All it takes is someone impatient to accidently push you aside and things could get sketchy. If you like the area, just hike up Barr Trail instead.
The steps get taller the higher you go. Closer to the top, there are waist-chest high ledges. Unless he's full body harnessed to you, that part could be a challenge.

Don't do it. I live in Colorado Springs and have done the incline. I also have taken my toddler on many hikes in a backpack. I wouldn't combine the two.
If you can't get childcare, just go up the Barr trail and meet your friends at the top of the incline. It only takes slightly longer to go up Barr trail than to take the direct route up the incline. When I did the incline, I went back down Barr Trail, since it's a lot easier on the knees.
What’s the incline?
About 24 degrees but 34 in some sections.
