Hi, first time building a PC and honestly don't know too much about it except for the videos and stuff that I've binged in the past couple of weeks, so I would like some advice to make sure I'm not making any stupid mistakes with my part selection.
I currently have a razer blade stealth 13 (2020) which I use for everything, including studies, a bit of gaming, and now learning video editing and after effects. The specs are:
- Intel Core i7-1065G7, 4 Cores/8 Threads, up to 3.9GHz
- Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti, 4gb GDDR6 VRAM
- 16gb RAM
- 459gb Storage
Now that I'm going heavy into learning video editing and after effects as I want to create both long form and short form animated content/documentaries for youtube, I have saved up quite a bit to be able to build my first PC with these proposed specs that I picked using pcpartpicker:
- AMD Ryzen 9 7950X OR 7950X3D (Not sure about the difference or which one would be better for my usage below?)
- ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 56.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (Is this too much or too little cooling for the CPUs above?)
- MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard (Is this okay? Not exactly sure what I need to consider when picking a motherboard)
- Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-5600 CL40 Memory (I think 64gb will be more than enough but will consider upgrading to 128gb in the future if needed)
- Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (Don't know too much about these but id like 1TB minimum. Can I add more of these later?)
- NZXT H9 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case OR Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case (Don't really care for RGB or super fancy looks, I like all black and anything cheaper is better for me in terms of a case as long as it comfortably fits everything and is easy to build in)
- Corsair RM1000e (2023) 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (I read somewhere that I should buy higher wattage than needed to allow headroom and also future proof for upgrades? Was considering going for 1200w but not sure if that was too much?)
Total shown on pcpartpicker: £1279.62
Budget (excluding GPU): £1000-1500 (Ideally closer to £1000)
For the GPU I intend on saving up a bit longer to get something like a 4070 Ti Super or a 4090 if I can afford it but in the meantime I have been given an old Radeon RX 480 4gb. Will this be good enough for my main priority usage of Adobe After Effects in the meantime while I save up for a better GPU?
Usage by priority:
- After Effects, Premiere Pro and some other Adobe tools like Photoshop etc
- Gaming
- Studies & general use (This will probably continue to be done on my laptop though)
Any advice and insight is greatly appreciated!
