OH my gawd i was just listening to a podcast on this exact thing and scenario. There were two separate buildings of a hospital, both delivered babies but one was on top of a morgue. So the doctors would come straight up from digging around down in the morgue with infectious diseases and things, and come straight into the baby delivery and effectively kill the moms giving birth. So it became a thing that the women in one building had a very low death rate versus the women in the morgue building. A scientist or doctor guy figured out that hand-washing was the culprit eventually, and as soon as they changed to dunking their hands into like, a sterilization juice before delivery, the death rates went down, literally immediately. But then the doctors said "no f*** that! doctors are gentlemen, and gentlemen always have clean hands. We're not washing!" They went back to their old ways, the death rates went back up. And it would be another 50 years until they would figure out that germs were a thing. If I can remember the name and episode of the podcast I'll post it here.

Think Atonement, Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Titanic, etc. Before I knew any of that existed I used to be obsessed with the simplicity and green meadows of the Anne Shirley miniseries (80s version). I loved the dresses and hair styles and it seemed like everything was innocent. In her tour movie she said she made one of her albums imagining she was some writer in the forest waking up early in the morning in her long white night gown to collect quills for writing. I think thats where her head is at, but its definitely la-la land. Shes still a child for whatever reason. Writers/artists are weird ppl

I like some of her songs. She's incredibly successful. But she really hasn't changed much, or better or worse, and I don't think everything she does is revolutionary. She's talented, but so are a lot of other women of colour, so I think her being white helps with her success a lot.
That lyric though... idk. There's this weird romanticism of the past. Not only was the technology and quality of life usually lower. But only white people think about that.

My interpretation of the full lyric was she was saying she used to play this game with presumably other white people and she used to bring down the mood of the room because they didnāt want her mentioning either topic and when she thought more about her answer, she realised she was romanticising the era.
But she does love the prairie girl aesthetic and using the 1800s as a setting in songs. Cowboy like me and the I Can Fix Him song talk about saloons and cowboys and use western imagery.

I truly, truly think these young stars get emotionally and mentally trapped at the age they become famous. Because this is the type of thing that if a white friend of mine had said at 16 I would have been like āokā and if a white friend said today at age 34 I would just stop interacting with them.
