My husband (who is a big craft beer enthusiast) noted today that my only brewery T shirt is from Von Trapp Brewing, which is “on brand” because I really like musicals. It made us wonder if there are any other breweries that might meet the small area of overlap in the Venn diagram of “good beer” and “musicals”. Any ideas?
Yeah, but like Crazy Ex Girlfriend won an Emmy, I think the market is there for theater nerd meets beer nerd.
Closest I've got is Bakfish brewery in Houston area has a high abv (high original gravity) double ipa called "Defying Gravity". It's got rocket/astronaut themes on the can art, but I always think of Wicked when I get one.
I think it could be a really fun theme. I'm bored so here's some beer name ideas/gimmicks I came up with:
- One Beer More (another pint another destiny) could be the slogan/name
- Saisons of Love (525600 yeast cells)
- Into The Woods - barrel aged series
- Ale Shook Up
- Caskerade - cask pumped ale
- Sal Tlay Ka Siti Salted Gose, low abv
- Anything Gose
- Little Shop of Porters
- Moulin Rouge red ale
- legally Blonde ale
- I dreamed a dream dreamsicle fruited sour
- Hazystown hazy IPA
- Blackout blackout black IPA
- grease lightning (the chicks will) cream ale -Miss Saigon Vietnamese coffee stout
- Spring Awakening seasonal spring beer
- Summertime (or "easy living") seasonal summer beer
- Fall I Ask of You seasonal fall beer
- 1780 a Winters Ball seasonal winter beer
One of my local breweries had a Rocky Horror showing for Pride this year. Why isn't there some vaudeville themed brewery making German beer and showing Cabaret once a month?
This is brilliant.
Fiction Beer Co in Denver is book/literature themed, so you might find some overlap with books that inspired musicals. I can't think of any others that are even close to that theme.
We love Fiction!
Not musical shows themed, but is musically themed. https://blueearlbrewing.com/
A couple breweries come to mind in Nashville
First thing to come to mind before reading the comments was Tennessee Brew Works.
Mikerphone Brewing is music themed but not musical themed.
Musical theatre & beer nerd here - I’ve had a few Hamilton-themed beers, as Belfast’s Boundary Brewing keeps making them (so far, Right Hand Man Back, Push Away the Unimaginable, a few more), and I keep buying them; also had the one made in NYC (before seeing the OBC, natch), but am blanking on the name.
I’m waiting for Sondheim-themed beers myself…so many possible name-checks!
OP just wondering if you realize the Von Trapp brewery is at the inn that was owned by THE Von Trapps of Sound of Music fame.
Haha oh I am VERY aware, which is how my husband got to listen to a lot of Rodgers and Hammerstein when we went to Hill Farmstead, Lawson and The Alchemist (for him) and Von Trapp (for me).
You literally described my trip last week....save the Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Considering there's like 10,000 breweries now there's probably like 30 or 40 musical themed breweries
