2 months backpacking itinerary

It's more or less the same. I'd prefer islands at the end simply because if you don't enjoy Vietnam/Cambodia as much and spent less time there you have more time for the islands to just relax. It's a better finish in my opinion.

I’ve just done 2 and was glad that I did it this way. Although I skipped Cambodia, and did it in 2 and a half months. So you might need to hot foot it or skip somewhere (flying from Da Nang to Cambodia would be a good option imo).

For me it would depend on what months you will be there to determine which is best for your specific trip. Want to avoid burning season in northern Thailand and Laos and want to have the least amount of rain or cloudy days in the islands. A month or two or even a week or two difference can have a big effect on these things.
