I was a little late to the game with these. I had no idea until they were out of production.
But I was able to sourse a good stock before the prices got ( Gunbroker ) ridiculous. Half for hard use. The rest for replacement over time. I figured this reddit would understand.
They said stack them deep.
They are a great addition. Both esthetically and functionally. Great for a padded drop during mag changes. It mitigates one of the downfalls of aluminum magazines. They can deform and dent over many drops. And these add weight to make sure when they drop free, those rubber pads are the first thing to hit and take the blow on a hard surface. D&H makes great quality mags. I have quite a few of those, also.
These are called "Magpul L plates".
The ranger plates I put on my D&H mags also.
Man those l plates are neat but fucking expensive
Yeah..... $23 for 3 of them is the cheapest I've managed to find them.
Id need 150+ for my gwot mags in storage lol likely a better idea to just stack more mags unfortunately
Darn. Commented on this and it ended up at the bottom. My bad.
Lanbo's has em for $15.02 in cart.
Thank you!
MAP is $23.67 for a 3 pack. My LGS could easily do like $20 given the cost from their distributor.
Darn....... I needed you months ago....
Sounds like you need to buy more mags!
I like the way you think. I need you to talk to my wife.
RIP in piece Suresneed
May I ask, do you know where that nick name originated? Was it a guntuber? I've heard Hop use that name, but no one else.
Idk I just know sneed’s feed and seed
That sounds like Hop
What’s the appeal to these vs a Gen 3 Pmag?
PMAGs and good (in this case non-EPM) aluminum mags both have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages.
Gen 3 PMAGs have better crush and impact resistance, crack instead of denting so you know when they’re damaged, seat more easily on a closed bolt, feed M855A1 fine, and can be bought with a round count window.
Aluminum mags are a bit smaller and lighter, don’t shrink or swell as much in extreme temperatures, seem to handle sand/fine dust better, are in theory less susceptible to UV degradation, and allegedly last longer under normal range use conditions not involving severe physical trauma.
Best to have both imo.
Thanks for the insight. Sadly, I’ll probably never get the chance to compare and use one of these in person now.
Check out "Charlie's Custom Clones" as well.
No E2's. But standard, slick side Surefeeds.
Not familiar.
What’s rra ?
Don't get me wrong, P-mags are quality made.
But they don't have a tangible, quality feel I'm looking for with mechanical things I use.
Realistically how long does a magazine last under normal use conditions?
I know that can vary greatly depending on what “normal use” is but I think you know what I’m asking.
Just a regular dude who enjoys shooting. Not grinding it out in fallujah or anything.
ive yet to see a banker, retail, construction worker etc wear one out and then their life be in immediate danger
I have 20 year old, plus magazines. Original springs and followers still functioning fine.
Years.
That's it?
Yep. So lacking...
How deep is your bunker? Do you have earth moving equipment, pallets of quikrete, rebar, and support beams stashed as well? Food and water? What is the largest caliber gun you have? Got any mountain artillery or mortar tubes stashed away? Because if you need that many mags to fight something, you need heavy MG's (even a semiauto M2 will do), indirect fire, and drones for FO. All of you who have the means - start stacking THAT. But it is a nice stash of mags. I'd recommend a rifle for every 10 mags though. You do have some "reservists" you can press into service right? Right???
There are so many things in that comment that I still lack. Especially the M-2 ( someday, I hope ).
There is a mountain not far away. Minimal concrete and brick. Chickens but no goats and cows ( yet ).
Community, we all need to build a strong community. That, above all, will get you through hard times more than any amount of ammo.
Yes, I admit the magazines are on the excessive side. We all have a "thing", and that is the "thing" that chose me. A combination of high quality and discontinued has captured and compelled me to grab more than I need. I'll just consider it an investment. Because they're only going to grow in value as the years go by.
Like most things, it came down to nuances and preferences.
I love P-mags. I've got plenty. Great mags. Durable. But, as I've gotten older, more and more things are made of plastic. And less quality is found the newer things get. So I started seeking things of quality, no matter the cost, and these are the best I've found, so far. And of course, they're discontinued. Seems to be my luck with good quality things.
This is true. And if I was in a, should I say, wet environment, I would certainly do that.
Luckily, they are stored in a cool, dry place. Far away from rain. And all my ingredients are non corrosive. Plastic, aluminum, stainless steel, brass and copper. And a bit of rubber. I fully realize brass and copper will tarnish and oxidize if left in a moist environment. But I'll look into those specific cases. Where would you recommend I get them?
E2's are the best ever! Good man.
I have a similar pile of pmags
Kinda wish I would have bought 3 or so e2s in FDE when they were available. Metal mags are a vibe.
You can still get some standard Surefeeds at
"Charlie's Custom Clones"
They have a stash of old stock.
They mention, " If you can put it in your basket, we still have them" but once they're gone, that's it.
I just dropped info for a new/old stock of Surefeed E2 in FDE. If you look up "surefeed stash" in r/ar15, you'll see all the info. Go order while you can. Best of luck. Get them while you can.
Sell me some new mag
Ok, like I've told a few people, you can still get standard Surefeeds at "Charlie's custom clones"
Okay industries standard magazine that is in my photos.
I like those containers for mags. Bought 4 of them off Amazon a little while ago and filled them up. Popped a small desiccant pack in each just in case. Use one with all the mags labeled holding different brands/loads in different mag brands to see which gun likes what best of each. Having a bunch of mags is your prerogative for sure. I have a lot as well (a lot being subjective I guess), but I’m also in the people’s republic of Marylandistan, which sucks monkey nuts. Many here stocked up a while back before they stuffed the “>10 round is evil” BS down our throats. Glad I did bc both of my sons are grown now and we built out rigs for them too. Better to have and not need than need and not have.
So true ( rather have and not need ). I'm also sorry about comunistville Maryland. When did those laws take effect? I'm in Virginia by the way.
Few years back. IANAL, but It’s not illegal to possess/own them here, you just can’t buy them inside state lines or transfer/sell them if memory serves. Dealers have to hate this crap too. I can drive into DE or VA buy as many standard 30 rounders I want and drive right home with them if I choose. We weren’t sure how the bs laws were going to play out so I said F it and stocked up when it was still legal. This state is so bass akwards. I can walk into my LGS tomorrow buy and walk out with an AR with a barrel stamped hbar or any standard ar10, but can’t buy a pencil barrel ar. Outta here in sub 5yrs for sure.
The laws make no sense! It doesn't stop any crime! All it does is piss off law-abiding gun owners! And the criminals keep stealing guns or go across state lines and get whatever hot gun they can get for $50
I got in the game late. Can only find 10 rounds oks
Delete this comment
Is that because of advertising?
No it's so others don't buy them all before I get paid this week 😂😂😂
Ugh, wish I could get some foot metal mags
Unless you're in one of those shit states? In that case, go to another state and but them.
Yeah, crossing the border but they never have anything in stock from everyone else doing the same thing 😂
You can. Read the comments. You'll find a place to get them.
I live in a ban state, most places won’t ship to me lol, 10 round pmags ftw!
You need to jump state lines and grab some. Where you at?
I’ve got ‘prebans’ that people have given to me and I’ve got in trades but I can’t justify spending $40-$50 on a 40 year old piece of sheet metal lol
Nope. You deserve the best. Don't do that silly 10 round shit.
MA 😒
I'm in VA, just below you. Within 4 hours I believe.
Those plastic cans are not very well sealed. I suggest getting some new manufacture mil spec steel 50 cal cans. Oil the seals. Put in a rechargeable silica gel dessicant with the mags.
bro, he isn't in a warzone. those containers are perfect for all our climate controlled homes while we are away at our non solider world saving jobs
You are exactly right, brother.
They'll be sitting in an AC home year round it look like. Just throw a small desiccant in there no need to oil the lid and shit lmao
Not to mention half of them are sealed in plastic already
Yep. All you said is true.
Those are loaded magazines in those cans. Do not leave ammo out like that for long term storage, even in AC.
I don't disagree with you but I shot 10k+ of my grandpa .223 that he store out the shed in Texas heat and cold since 1990 and they go bang Everytime.
Not the most accurate but didn't really have much issues.
The man got like 3 pallets worth of the thing that we split between everyone in the family when he passed
Just throw a 10g desiccant pack in there and it'll be fine
Ammo in a warehouse is fine. Ammo in your climate controlled house, no good.
Now go get some more
I could, but part of me feels guilty for having as many as I do. Silly as that sounds. But I have sons who will be shooting someday. I can pass on to them.
Don't feel guilty. Magazines can and have been banned easily, and at that point it's too late.
The correct number of magazines to have is one more than you do right now, at all times
You are so correct. Always one more. Now if I could convince my wife of that.....
I just tell my wife they're "liquid assets"
"Investments"
What ammo cans are those?
I got them off Amazon. They officially hold 15 mags. But you can squeeze 20 and shut the lid. Look up MTM TMC15.
You've got older GWOT okay and Colt mags? Date stamped with 33710 above? Some 6P199 mixed in too?
Do you happen to have any slick sided PMAGs or straight PMAGs?
If that was a joke, it went straight over my head, my man. I've never seen a slick side or a straight magpul mag.
They meant at my house, you dipshit.
Ngl, I don’t really get the point of this. What in the world are you gonna do with 50+ mags? I get having like 10-15, maybe even 20. Mags occasionally break, and if you’re concerned about them being banned at some point, having some extra is a reasonable precaution to keep a good number on hand in the long run. But, in what situation is another 30 mags going to be useful? Are you planning to equip a whole militia? Do you have seven kids you want to be able to outfit all at once? What’s the goal?
Not hating—it’s your business how you spend your money—just…confused.
Because they are a wear item, and places like WA banned all further purchases of standard capacity mags. More places will probably try the same. They can get dented, dirty, break, or the springs could wear. I don't think 50 is ridiculous at all if you want to have enough for a lifetime.
I get that, the confusion. Do I have an absolute reason for so many? No. Other than I wanted extra. They will wear out. But yes, I was thinking of the future, my own needs as they wear out. My sons and daughters ( I have 6 children ) will need a stash someday, and I wanted to give them the best I could when they move out on their own. It's enough loaded to outfit a squad and a half to a mid range platoon. And who knows if I'll need to do that someday?
I'm only impressed if they're all fully loaded!
The mags in the first three photos are all loaded.
Someone told me long ago that,
"Loose bullets are worthless when you need them"
It's one hell of an investment of time and money.
I just stocked up on D&H aluminum magazines from BCM. Only had pmags before.
How do you like the Magpul baseplates?
