How to install Apollo via AltStoreDiscussion

If Christian doesn’t approve this being up please let me know.

I know this all seems like a lot, but take your time, it'll be quite easy imo

Do all this on your computer first

  1. Download Altstore “https://altstore.io/“ Do all the things the program says like downloading iCloud for Windows After it’s all installed. Open AltServer.exe again if isn’t already active (nothing will pop up, it’s active in the background) Plug your phone in to you computer. If on Windows click the “^ “in the bottom right corner of the computer, click the grey diamond, click ‘Install AltStore>Your iPhone name’, enter your Apple iD and Password, have your phone open, and AltStore will be installed on your iPhone.

2.Next, get a Reddit API token: Sign into your reddit account (on desktop) and go here: https://reddit.com/prefs/apps Click the are you a developer? create an app... button Fill in the fields name: Use whatever Choose Installed App description: blank space about url: blank space redirect uri: apollo://reddit-oauth create app After creating the app you’ll get a client identifier; it’ll be a bunch of random characters. Save this Client ID somewhere, we’re going to need it soon.

  1. Next, get an Imgur API Token: If you do not have an Imgur account, please create one: https://imgur.com/

After creating an account, create an app from the following page https://api.imgur.com/oauth2/addclient

Authorization type: is OK with "OAuth 2 authorization without a callback URL

Fill in the other fields to get a "Client ID".

https://imgur.com/account/settings/apps You can also check the Client ID from the above link if you are logged in. Save This client ID somewhere, we'll need it later.

Next steps are all done on your iPhone:

1) https://github.com/ichitaso/ApolloPatcher/releases Click the link above and download "Apollo_1.15.11_mod_0.0.5.ipa" to your Files on your iPhone

2) Open AltStore app (you may have to go into settings to authorise the app, it'll tell you when you try to open) Go to the My Apps tab in AltStore, click the '+' button in the corner, click the .IPA you just downloaded.

Apollo should be installed now

Last step: Go to the settings tab in Apollo, click the blue banner at the bottom that says 'CustomAPI'

Paste the Reddit client ID I told you to save earlier in the top line and click "Set RedditClientID" Paste the ImgurID in the second line, click set 'ImgUrClientID'

Restart the app by going to the app switcher and swiping up on the App. Voila. You're good to go! Log-in and customise to your hearts content.

P.S: With AltStore, every week, you’ll have to plug your phone into your computer, launch alt store, and hit refresh in the ‘My Apps’ tab on the app to reinstall Apollo. If you miss the window, just follow the steps to install AltStore again and hit refresh in the ‘My Apps’ tab to reinstall Apollo.

List of updated IPAs?

I sideloaded a couple of months ago after not using reddit at all, and it felt like a breath of fresh air! However I’m still using a version of the IPA that had a wallpaper error on startup, and issues loading imgur images within comments.

I know there are updated IPAs around- where do I track them down, and are there any significant differences??

Remove Extensions from IPA?
Remove Extensions from IPA?Question

Hi,

I’m trying to remove a few extensions from the Apollo IPA when sideloading. From a previous post I found, I should be able to just change the IPA to a ZIP file and go to the plugins folder, delete the plugins, then rezip and change the file back to an IPA. When I do that and try to install with AltStore, I get an error that the /Payload folder can’t be found.

Any ideas?

[Release] On-Device Apollo Notifications via Home Assistant

Inspired by u/m4rkw's script for on-device notifications via Pushbullet, I've created an adaptation of their project and adapted it to work via Home Assistant notifications.

This allows users running Home Assistant to receive reddit notifications that will automatically open the content in the Apollo App directly from the lockscreen/notification center, no "Open in Apollo" prompt needed.

Currently only one reddit account is supported per instance, I may add support for additional accounts for notifications only, but I have not discovered a way to switch users inside Apollo via a URI so the notifications will not be able to open directly to the content.

OAuth is currently not supported, you will need to provide your Reddit username, password and TOTP secret (Only if 2FA is enabled) for this to work.

I've provided a standalone script and a Docker version; the Docker version is recommended to avoid any dependency or compatibility issues. I have plans to build this into a Home Assistant add-on that can be installed inside Home Assistant and configured with the GUI.

Checkout the Github repo for more information.

Hope this helps out, thanks again to u/m4rkw for the framework and inspiration.

Cannot change Apollo App icon within app when signed with Esign

Hi all

So I am using Jeffrey’s version of Apollo with the imgur fix. However I can’t change the icons within the app when signed by esign. Is there a solution to this ?

Open in Apollo automatically from Safari

Since side loading I haven’t been able to get the included Open In Apollo Safari extension to work properly. I can’t get the extension to run automatically. I instead have to toggle it off and on each time I view a Reddit page in Safari, which isn’t worth it.

Today I found a workaround using the Redirect Web app on the App Store.

The app is free to download and you don’t need the paid features to make this work.

Just edit the default rule to match the following:

REDIRECT FROM https://www.reddit.com/r/*/comments/*

REDIRECT TO apollo://reddit.com/r/$1/comments/$2

Which appdb package to install

Been a long time since I did the original process to add Apollo back to my phone, not sure which package I should install.

I have an apple developer cert for self signing if you have other method suggestions as well. I looked at one of the guides but it seemed like having the latest iOS meant I couldn't use one of the tools to get it loaded.

Login on iOS 10

Edit: I figured it out.

So you know how you tubers get their channels stolen because they get a fake sponsor mail that has a malware that steals their cookies when run? I remembered that after making the post so I decided to copy over my own cookies to my iPhone and it worked.

On my computer I enabled the develop menu at safari and used a custom user agent that belongs to iOS 10.3.4. Not sure if this is necessary but did it just in case if it auto logs me out because of a user agent change.

Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 10_3_4 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/603.3.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/10.3 Mobile/14G61 Safari/ RDDocuments/6.8.10.610

I then logged in, took the cookies from /macOS drive/Users/username/Library/Cookies folder. The file is called Cookies.binarycookies.

I took the file and put it to the documents of vlc on my phone. Then I opened filza on my phone, navigated to /var/mobile/Library/Cookies, deleted the cookie file from there and moved the one I put into vlc's documents. I respringed the phone and when I opened Reddit on safari I was signed in.

From there I opened apollo, pressed sign in, pressed the safari button to switch the login screen to safari from the in app web view. On the new reddit view allow client button doesn't work so I changed the URLs www to old to get the old one, pressed allow and now I am signed in writing this from apollo at iOS 10.

another edit: on ios 12 you need to put the cookie files to a different location. On ios 12 open filza, press the tabs icon, press the apps button, find safari and click on it then library then cookies and put the cookies file there.

I used the apollopatcher tweak and it shows posts but because the old reddit log in screen was removed I can't sign in. Are there any workarounds?

It's an iPhone 5.

Apollo sometimes returns to feed selector

Sometimes when I’m in a post and hit the top left corner to go back to the thread list, it goes all the way back to the feed selection list and I lose my place. Is this a bug or something I can fix in settings?

Apollo doesn’t load using sidestore despite adding API keys

Hi All

So I got this working perfectly on AltStore. I’ve tried the same thing with sidestore loaded Apollo successfully. However entering the API Keys does nothing ! Nothing is loading? Does anyone have a fix for this ?

Has there been any update to the Reddit video downloader being broken?

Title. I used that feature almost daily, and whilst I’ve found workarounds using other apps my muscle memory keeps trying through Apollo first.

New bug, all Twitter links are dead now and open up to error because they moved it to X.com

EDIT/UPDATE: I guess it wasn’t an Apollo bug after all. Turns out it was one of my (safari) content blocker that was bugged. I had to disable it and re-enable it and the Twitter links are working fine again. I’ll leave this post up for anyone else that might run into this.

So whenever someone shares a Twitter link it embeds as Twitter.com and you still can press on it but you have select open app to view it. With the stupid X update the other day it always errors out to missing page.

Basically you can no longer view the tweet in app now because of the host update they did on X.

Apollo notifications shortcut - now with 2FA
Apollo notifications shortcut - now with 2FAAnnouncement 📣

An update to my earlier post here: https://old.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/1c3quj6/ondevice_notifications_for_apollo_3/

I've updated the shortcut to support 2FA:

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d181bd4403c84fcf816381642b3f2a16

Dependencies:

  • Pyto
  • Pushover
  • Data Jar (free)

Intructions are basically the same, except you also need to specify the OTP code in the text box and install pyotp via Pypi in the Pyto app.

It looks like with Pyto you can simply request a free trial every 3 days to avoid buying a license but it's a bit of a pain.

IAP “for testing purposes”

I’m using apollopatcher, does anyone know if IAP’s actually incur charges? Right before, it tells me that this is a testflight version.

Is there a way to get ultra working?

I have Apollo side loaded using sideloadly and a file from GitHub, is there a way to get the Ultra features working? Everytime I click on it, it asks me to pay then says there’s a problem moving forward.

Any fix for screen not auto-locking?

When Apollo is open it doesn’t let my phone sleep - a couple times now I’ve come back to see it sitting in same Reddit post hours later - don’t want burn in.

Anyone else seeing this?

Any fix for Pro or Ultra Features? (Swipe gestures)

Any time I try to adjust Swipe Gestures in Apollo settings, the app just crashes.

Certain subreddit won’t lode

*load

Can anyone else access r/thegriffonssaddlebag

It literally will not load for me. What’s up with that?

As far as I know I haven’t been banned, I never commented, just looked at photos. This propblem persists on both of my accounts. U don’t have this issue on any other subreddit except this one.

EDIT: Issue Fixed. Turns out it was a filter problem. I had my filters set to not show me anything with the word SA in it (SA is sometimes used for Sexual Assault). However since all the posts in that sub use the term SA and it’s mostly just one person the entire server was cut off to me. After untagging SA the server is now viewable.

App freeze when trying to use hold actions on an image or video

I'm using Apollo_1.15.11_ApolloPatcher_0.0.7.ipa and it has been working well for the past few months. Starting yesterday, my app freezes and needs a restart if I attempt to hold on an image or video to save or share. This function was working properly before. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: I have already cleared cache, reinstalled, and restarted my iPhone.

Edit 2: Issue has been resolved by signing out of Apollo and signing back in.
