I’m old and old school. My sister, SIL, mother and MIL planned mine. They decorated and made the cake. They came up with games and they made a list of all the gifts as I opened them. all my friends were there along with my family and work buds. It was perfection.
What has happened that has caused women to think they need to Have something MORE than that? I don’t get it.

I'm a few years younger than her, and I don't see a problem with throwing your own shower in general. I think it would have been nice for someone else to take care of the games and stuff if she wanted to do the decor and venue. She never mentioned food in the "prep" vlogs, so maybe someone else did take care of the food? I was recently in a wedding, and honestly all the things that come with being a bridesmaid WERE a stressful financial burden to me as a single mom. Hosting a baby shower for someone feels similarly stressful. And it's not that I wouldn't WANT to for my friend/SIL/whoever. Probably no one makes as much as her, and she was able to make it how/where she wanted, I guess. Overall, I don't think it's that big of a deal.
It should be friends, mother, MIL numerous people making your day special, exciting, surprising & stress free. That’s the point to be pampered for the day. Alex could have given most of the money to let others do it. But she is a control freak!
For my baby shower, my friend asked for a list of who to invite. I did & it was great! They went in with other friends to cover some costs. It felt so special to walk into their house and see their efforts of love for me & baby. I didn’t have to worry about anything. Just drank punch, ate cake & opened presents. I was so thankful 🙏🏼
If she told the truth I think most would get why shes doing it. Pretty sure they doing it so they can write it all off on tax as a business expense

Good luck with that. Where's the business expense? I bet a lot of people who show up won't want to be filmed. She may decide she doesn't want to film it anyway, just so she can enjoy the event. If she shows a few clips, maybe of the venue and decorations, in another vlog, that ain't gonna do it either. All that said, I don't see a business expense here (I used to do trusts and estate work, but I don't think I'm that rusty when it comes to expenses). It's not something she's doing for her business or something that's done in the usual course of 'influencer' industry. I'd deny it.
Maybe she let everyone know that she will be filming (if they like it or not) and thats why she did the shower herself? Posting the vlog of her babyshower is all she has left & she will get more views. Her content is just amazon links now & she’s been getting a lot of hate so she’s getting desperate to cash in on what she has left
I think it’s tacky and a way to beg people for stuff for yourself. I think it’s just weird. Especially since she supposedly can afford it.
I think it’s fine in general if you don’t have any close friends to host it for you.
Although, in Alex’s case she has more disposable income probably than anyone who she would potentially invite. So it’s weird to me to ask people buy stuff for her when she’s in the financial place that she is.
It would’ve been a nice gesture for someone to be the host even if she wanted to financially back the party 🤷🏻♀️

I’m starting to think it’s either generational and/or cultural because my family is Mexican-American and it’s usually the Godmother of the baby who throws the shower. I mentioned planning my own shower once and my Mother almost had a aneurysm 😅
I hosted mine with my mom because my mom doesn’t have a ton of money and I wanted to help and have some control over things. I did feel slightly weird but I didn’t want to burden my friends or anyone else. my family is really small too.
I think it’s totally fine to plan your own, but in Alex’s case it’s giving icky vibes.

I think your own mother or mother like figure should host it for you traditionally. That being said, Alex has much more money than most people in her family and also wants control over the shower for social media and the aesthetic. If it wasn’t about money, her mom would have thrown one for her most likely.
I think times are changing too especially with weddings and stuff. People are all in different places in their life and it’s really shitty to make someone feel obligated to throw you a shower so you can receive gifts.

I am use to seeing someone else throw the shower or the expectant mother help. I think Alex is a control freak and that is why she is throwing her own. She thinks she is better and superior than others. The joke is her style is horrible and she has no taste.
Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I threw my own (and coincidentally it was today, like Alex’s).
My husband and I wanted to throw a big party especially given we are not planning to hold a christening etc. We are pretty nontraditional and so we had fifty or so guests, male and female. It has/had nothing to do with control or maximising gifts from guests and it’s not really a fair assumption to make. We just wanted to enjoy a special time with the people we love.
Many of the wonderful women in my life contributed so much in various ways to my wedding a few years ago and I would be mortified for them to feel they had to dip into their own pockets again. Don’t get me wrong; these women still contributed in different ways today, but ultimately food, drinks and venue hire is expensive. We preferred to shoulder that ourselves.
I planned and paid for my own shower for a myriad of reasons I’m not going to get into on here… my aunt “hosted” it. I was thrown a shower at work by my coworkers. Personally, I haven’t gone about my life traditionally. Al even her family don’t seem to be traditional type people. I fully expected Al to plan her own shower for the content and I felt no type of way about it. Al puts on a front of a perfect life, etc. so I get the judgement about her lack of friends and family willing to help from the community. I’m just bothered by the “it’s so tacky” comments… people don’t know the circumstances of everyday people to judge. Idk.
My mom isn’t financially great (still asks me for money often), my sister is 16, don’t have SIL, and my MIL lives in another country. Unfortunately, I’ve always seen myself throwing my own baby shower when time comes. I’m sure If my mom had better financial means she would volunteer to do it, so not sure why Nancy didn’t do it for Alex or go halfsies.

There are plenty of people who don’t have the type of close relationship with their Mother or whoever to have them host, and it’s not a burden I think anyone should expect to put on a friend.
There’s so much to snark on Alex about, but I can’t help but feel like if someone else hosted it, many people would find a problem with that too. Everyone would be saying “she has so much money, why is she making her Mom pay for it?”

I’m old but not out of touch….my niece just has her baby shower. It was put on by her best friend and Mom. My niece is married, 29 years old, and makes bank. So it wasn’t a “money matter”.
Etiquette is that someone else throws the shower to celebrate the pregnant woman and her baby. She shouldn’t have to lift a finger. Just show up and enjoy the day.

Actually both my Mom and MIL did! And they let me help pick out all of the decor and stuff because I love doing that! Everyone finds what works for them. I just think there are so many better things to snark on Alex about! I’ve had friends that didn’t have anyone to host for them but also didn’t want me to and the nasty comments from older people really hurt them. Maybe I’m just too sensitive about it but some people just don’t have the support. I have a feeling that Alex doesn’t have as much support in her Mom as it may seem online.
I’m glad you had a nice shower. And I really hope you do have an easy delivery (I might be old, but I’m not an A$$hole😂😂). And I agree, some people do pick on every single silly thing with Alex. And I also agree that she doesn’t have a good bunch of supportive friends and family. And that’s sad…..But, she needs to look at herself and figure out why all of her good girl friends have hit the deck.

Alex has always been a “pick me” she keeps getting treated poorly because she really has low self esteem & doesn’t believe she is owed much. She has enough people in her family & Yar family that they should want to celebrate her. Everyone could have chipped in. Women are projecting because they also are use to expecting less.
