I frequent will cook and then not want to eat, even if I'm hungry, because my dopamine is that screwed up. I will also just stop in the middle of eating when I'm still hungry and wander away from my food and come back to it later, or just throw it away.
I only finish a meal if it's a. Really small. B. I'm sitting with other people or c. I'm on stimulants
Because my brain is trying to kill me
This is me. Also skip meals a lot despite being hungry for hours because I just don't feel like eating. Sometimes a whole day hungry would pass and I still don't feel like eating 💀
I've learned to eat in a lunchbox with a cover as much as I can since I don't finish a lot of meals. At least I can cover it up or easily toss it in the fridge that way.
oh yes, i thought it was just me. i really enjoy cooking but eating it then (unless it’s certain food) is rlly unappealing. i noticed when preparing food, it’s easier for me to eat it as i go while cooking, perfect for salads or so
Yes I rarely actually eat what I’ve just cooked
I don't often see others who eat better when on stimulants, for many it seems to inhibit hunger, but I find it easier to keep regularity to my eating/meals/cooking, so that helps the eating healthy a lot.
I'm one of the weird ones. I gained weight as a kid when on meds.
I am more likely to eat on them than off of them, because when I’m on them, I slow down and notice I’m hungry!
This is me on stimulants & without them 😭 if any of y'all find a solution please let me know because Ive been absolutely trying SO HARD to get myself out of being underweight for the past year. Not to mention the amount of food waste I have. I'm so sick of constantly feeling hungry and spending hours out of my day just trying to get myself to eat.
Relatable asf!!!
Interesting, thought it was just me that didn't like to eat what I've just finished cooking. I thought it was because I was constantly tasting it before it was finally finished so curbed my appetite.
Can't make it through a banana to save my life
This should be a tag line for ADHD.
My adhd meal used to be to eat a banana in ~2 bites (jokes aside) but I randomly developed an allergy to bananas soooooo I literally can't make it through 1 banana these days 😭
I cannot stop laughing 😂 It’s funnier when you totally understand it too 😅😅
It's exactly what you're imagining too. Eating banana, halfway through I start getting pouty and rolling my eyes at it, then a big sigh and I abandon it. Too long!!!
😂😂😂😂😂
yeah, it happens. that’s why i usually drink smoothies/soup (actually drink soup because the repetition w a spoon can be awful). i usually try to either get many different textures in, so i can change it up or just drink something up as it is. or i just eat while preparing the food because then i do something else while chopping veggies, eg lol
Ugh yes, eating is so boring-- to compensate I like to eat as fast as humanly possible and make a lot of meals that don't require an excessive amount of chewing. I especially hate eating lunch, ugh it's so miserable.
CHEWING SUCKS
Yes I basically have to eat in front of the tv. At work I often eat during zoom meetings (it’s like work tv lol) otherwise I’m not paying attention to the meeting.
Same. Unless I’m at a social dinner it’s rare that I can eat without watching tv or YouTube or something.
Eating is literally the only time I'm not bored
Same. I eat more than I need to because it’s so stimulating.
YES!!!! i need something to watch like on youtube or a tv show to distract me while i eat or i’ll get bored and want to stop eating. also chewing takes too much effort💀
No… because I love food and inhale it in like, two seconds like I’ve never seen food before.
How long have you been doing IE? That’s how I used to be, but now almost 2 yrs in, I find myself forgetting to eat or not finishing meals. It’s such a change and a completely different challenge to work on since I know I need to eat.
What is IE?
Intuitive eating. Sorry! I thought I was in the other sub. Getting bored when eating is really common after a while with intuitive eating because you foster a very neutral relationship with food which means nothing is off limits and you don’t have the restrictions that lead to binging.
At the beginning of intuitive eating, binging and eating quickly is really common because you are eating the foods that had been off limits to you before. Because I thought we were in the other sub, I read your comment with that context.
Ah, that explains it! Thanks for clarifying:)
Intuitive eating, I bet
Thanks! I haven’t ever done “intuitive eating” or whatever that means, so maybe they meant to reply to someone else.
I forget to eat. It's just not a priority for me. In addition to adhd I also have severe problems with my jaw which causes chewing to be very painful. Eating is straight up not enjoyable. If there was a pill I could take and get everything I needed so I didn't have to eat I probably would.
Why are such simple life requirements so hard to deal with!?
ALL THE TIME
YES YES YES EATING IS SO BORINGGGG 'CAUSE IT'S SO REPETITIVE AND IT TAKES SO LONG
...which is why I either eat super fast, or take a break mid eating to walk around a bit or do something, or try to listen to some music, or read. I can't watch tv while I'm eating 'cause somehow I can't concentrate on either eating nor watching properly (I end up not tasting anything or missing everything on the show).
The best thing is to eat with someone or eat out because then you have no other option than to eat lol.
Oh yes. I am a slow eater if I am not eating with friends or husband I will invariably not finish my plate because I am bored.
Oh, is this part of why I dislike soup?!
Soups and salads, ugh, soooo booooring. This is why I love shakes like Huel, I can chug them and be done in 5 min. Problem is I can never remember to wash out the shaker in time (:
No, eating is my dopamine
I do love food so no not really but sometimes the inattentiveness gets me. Last night I was eating the last bite of my food, forgot it was in my mouth because I got distracted by the TV, and choked on it.
I’ve always been bored while eating. Nowadays it’s easily fixed since we always have phones, but when I was a kid I would sit at the table for hours, reading a book under the table or the cereal box or arguing with my sister about if animals or people are better or whatever we could think of lmao
I have so many tiny quirks around food that I’ve finally just decided to own with confidence, and one is, soup should be in mugs. If it’s thin enough to “drink” from a mug it’s a soup.
Yeah. Then I come back to the kitchen 2 hours later and there's literally nothing to ear
Yep. I mostly eat while watching Netflix lol
yeah but not all the time
I have to watch TV 📺
Perhaps? I find it hard to eat unless I've distracted myself with something
Not weird at all (in my estimation). I eat very slowly and always have. Sometimes it just takes too long. When I was a kid, I can't tell you how many times I had my food taken away and sent to school hungry because, "You take too damn long." Of course, I would also get in trouble for literally getting sick about 9 am because of the stomach acid.
Even now, with family dinners (my SO's family), it's not unusual for me to leave the table hungry because everyone eats so.damn.fast. and I feel so exposed.
Particularly with soup, yes. Same vibe with porridge - if every mouthful is exactly the same and there's no chewing to be done I a) get bored and b) quite often just feel a bit sick.
Usually I'm at my most happiest while eating. However, I do get bored while eating rice. Rice is fine if it's smothered in curry or soy sauce and mayonnaise, but plain rice? No. I have memories of being a little kid and my mom serving up, what seemed like, a giant mountain of plain rice as the carb component of dinner. No sauce. There was meat and vegetables but nothing wet for the rice to absorb the flavour of. This was back in the "sit at the table until you finish" days. Eating that plain rice was soooooo unbelievably boring and tedious. It was like torture. I'd throw the biggest tantrums.
Sometimes I have to ask myself am I full or am I just bored with this?
Omg YES. I’m always the last to finish my meal. When I’m alone I need to be reading or doing something else, I can’t “just” eat. And I was just explaining to my partner how much I hate salad bc it’s sooooo much chewing and was like…what?!? lol.
Generally I find the fact that I have to take time out of the day to eat (+prep/cook/clean), the biggest annoyance- just trying to figure out how hungry I am and what I want to eat + how I’m going to get said thing is such an energy and mind suck. I know it’s important bc I literally need it to live, but it still seems like a super inconvenient attack against me personally lol
I love salads, but never eat them because they take too long to chew.
Yes if there was a tablet I could pop instead of all that kerfuffle , I’d do it
No but I wish I had this problem ???
Lol, me too. My son is like this though. He’s so thin I’m afraid we’re going to get a cps check. I honestly feed the kid, it’s like torture. If anyone has any advice it’s welcome.
I have to be watching TV. This is usually the only time I do watch TV during the day.
Since starting Mounjaro for PCOS I get super bored with food. It does nothing for me anymore.
Yesss. I was just thinking about this. I tend to snack a lot. And I think it's because I'm bored of eating fast, so I just want something fast. And on that same note I dislike cooking because it takes so much time and then I eat for like 5 minutes.
If I go out to eat I almost always bring food home...I get bored of eating before it's gone and..then I have leftovers for later
Eating has always been the most boring task for me. I really only do it when I'm on the verge of passing out from not eating for so long. It's totally not healthy, but I just HATE pulling myself away from whatever I'm doing at the time to eat something. I almost wish I could just have a feeding tube so I can stay alive without having to feed myself lol.
become an ipad kid
Relatable. Might be weird but straight up I just drink soup. Like right out of the bowl it’s boring but I love it.
If I cook sometimes I don’t eat bc my brain reads it as task done. For some reason especially for like more thought out/ complicated fancy meals. 🥲
I’m the go-to cook in our home and the amount of times that I’ve cooked something nice that I genuinely love and then just been like “.. I cannot eat ever” is staggering.
No. I wish lol I delight in the dopamine rush pretty much any food brings
YES OMG. I just get tired of chewing!!!!
You need better soups. There's times I can live off soups.
My daughter forgets to eat or just gets bored eating and just leaves and does something else it takes her hours to finish meals. We’ve had to set a lot of rules for her to get some structure. I’ve always read something while eating, I can’t just sit there.
Yes! I can completely relate to this. It's like I get bored just chewing after a while
Yes!! I’ve switched to protein shakes as a breakfast replacement because I cannot get myself to eat. It’s the most boring activity in the universe and it takes so much fucking time to cook and eat and clean and there are just a thousand things I would way rather be doing. watching TV helps to distract me from how much I dislike the sensation of chewing as well. I just exist on the verge of passing out like all the time 😭
I was just telling my husband and friends that I love eating chicken wings bone in bc it’s like a game while eating and they all looked at me like 👁️👄👁️…so yes, I get bored while eating lol
Absolutely
Yes and then the food grosses me out even though I was excited to eat it. Only sometimes. Off meds I just binge eat 😖
It’s the salads for me. Too much chewing. Even if it’s a good salad. So I definitely relate
After 3 or 4 chews I'm done. Hard boiled eggs are good for protein, if ur into eggs. Only a couple of chews and ur good for like half of your day
Not bored with the texture per se but I get like I’m understimulated a lot! Like if it’s not salty enough or if it’s just one taste (think a creamy soup) then I get tired of it.
Yep and I'm known for not finishing my food. Exes and former friends used to bank on me getting bored/tired of chewing to make seconds out of my abandoned meals, lol.
For me it’s very much dependent on what I’m eating. Soup is such a struggle for me, it’s so boring!! I don’t think I’ve ever finished a bowl of soup in my life. I find just do best with foods that have crunch in them, like in the mornings I have yogurt and blueberries with granola and a few dark chocolate chips and flaxseed. The mixture of a few different crunchy foods is so satisfying in a way that softer foods like the blueberries and yogurts aren’t!
Yep soup is so boring
