Everyone congratulate me for going cold turkey on my in app purchases for my silly little game
Imma still do in app purchases for other games sometimes, but this one game I gotta never ever do an in app purchase again or I’ll instantly fall down a rabbit hole
What’s funny is about the time I finally collapse mentally and end up doing an in app purchase I immediately don’t like said game anymore lol. Fuck me
Yeah sometimes I’ll be playing a game for hours daily and I’m like ok FINE I’ll finally remove the ads after battling so hard against them, and then stop playing.
So.... We all do this? It.... It's not just a weird quirky me thing? Well holy shit. I've been cleansed of my guilt!
It’s definitely an ADHD thing…. Because in app purchases are one of the easiest things to impulse buy😅
It makes so much sense. Yet another thing I genuinely didn't realize was an ADHD thing.
I swear these apps are specifically targeting us since a lot of these things are like “buy it now or lose the offer forever!” so we impulsively give our money over for shit that doesn’t exist
YES!!! I have rules - if my little piggy bank price is more than $5, I play until I hit an unpassable level and then uninstall. If it's under $5, I will just keep playing forever. My brain gets ultra focused on match 3 games. I got bored with PokemonGo - thank goodness - I'm pretty sure I spent $1000 on that game over multiple years. This actually makes me feel better about my purchases. Now... If I could just uninstall Amazon Prime, I'd probably be rich!
It’s a few weeks since I’ve spent any on my main problem game, I’m honestly pretty excited to be able to stretch my next cheque further and spend that money on real things instead!! Pretty confident I’ll be able to keep at it as long as I never make a single purchase on that game again and fall down the rabbit hole…. Glad I could make you feel a little better about it😅
Congrations you done it!
I know personally that seeing those suspiciously common "1,99$" thingamajigs are pretty enticing
Then two seconds later the fake money is gone as well as the real money
Yep...
Congrats. I had to just stop playing games on my phone altogether to prevent my ADHD impulse in-game purchases.
That’s rough, idk how my ADHD would cope without phone games💔
Cwazy cupcakes?!
It’s a slippery slope all right, glad you nipped it in the bud
Well done, many of these these in-game purchases are designed to hook neuro-divergent people.
I noticed😞
I'm sorry. But you should still be proud.
Congrats king, you are the inspiration that keeps us all going
I have not touched a mobile/live service game for years for fear of this.
Oh my fucking god you've just explained it all
Good luck 😔
congrats you did it!!! proud of you
any tips for a fellow in app purchase addict?
Thank you🫂 hm yeah going cold turkey is my only advice tbh 😅 I’m just sucking it up every time I could complete something with even just a 99p purchase I’m making myself not complete it because I definitely forget about those virtual rewards 5 seconds after paying real money for them
Congratulations!
I’m not but hopefully someone else who maybe needs help will see this
Lucky patcher doesn't work well nowadays with most games being server sided or being smart enough to have server sided purchase verification.
Time to impulsively spend on the next hyperfixation! lol but no seriously good job OP!
I just started collecting manga so now I’ve been thinking how many extra volumes I can buy with that money
what game is it? (not me missing the entire point of the post... lol)
but yeah i definitely feel u, for me the 1 thing that helped was just not having enough memory on my phone for games so if i don't have the game i won't be able to make in-app purchases.... ha ha ha :') (i just use my browser and doomscroll instead....)
Dragonscapes, it’s basically impossible to complete events without spending money lmao but in the end completing events isn’t really important and I’m still having fun playing without spending
ahh i've not played it myself, but hey you're right, having fun's what matters!!
Good for you!
Congrats! But I need to know what game? I'm so curious!
Dragonscapes
I don’t allow myself to ever do the micro transactions. I might get the no ads if I have fixated on it long enough
You go, queen!
Good adhd'er. Budgets are important. I lost mine, but I know I need to find it.
When someone said "why spend real money on pixilated food/wood/clothing that can't benefit my real life" it was an eye opener.
I mean sure, no one has time to let their building take 42 hrs to build when 300 gold can get it instantly done so it's finally lv 20, and 300 gold is "only" $9.99, but yeah. Real money to build a pixel king a pixel home that I'll never live in? Nah.
Congrats! It's hard. Usually I allow myself a small budget of like $10 per month for it, but who knows whether I actually stay under that or not.
