I just got the game a couple of days ago and I'm loving It. But the only problem is that I'm on a keyboard and driving is a bit tough, so i usually end up hitting a wall or getting whacked into other cars. Are there any good cars that can really take a beating and still drive relatively well?
The Grand Duke and Wingman are DLC though.
Aight thanks
1st essential step: in the Settings menu under "Difficulty " set the Stability assist to "half". This will make your car resist spinning from other cars impacting yours.
For car choice there are 2 factors that make a car better for taking hits and keep a steady handling:
- Weight: every car has a base weight, and then you can increase that weight by adding armour. When 2 cars clash, the heavier car has a big advantage over a lighter car in terms of how much it gets thrown around by the impact. A heavier car can push and affect the driving of the lighter car much more. The bigger the weight difference the more the lighter car will get pushed. The lightest racers are around or under 1000Kg (very vulnerable). Most cars sit in sort of a mid weight division of around 1500kg, closer to 2000kg you are in the heavyweight division, a car around 1800 to 2200 kg should be able to boss other cars around the track (except if you come across buses, fully armored limos and other superheavy weights that are bordering around the 2700 to 3000kg range, but cars that weight have very limited in terms of racing ability (unless no one survives and you can make it to the end)
- Suspension: diferent cars have different suspension height and stiffness, the stiffness can be adjusted in the tunning, but some cars have a very limited range of adjust-ability. When you add armour to a car the increased weight will compress the suspension more violently, some cars are softly sprung and when you add a lot of armour they become really wobbly handling. A great example is the Warwaggon, even if you armour it up to around 2xxxkg it is still not great at absorbing hits because of the wobbly soft suspension.
As a beginner I would suggest you try a car like the Rammer. Add armour to around 1800-1900kg. It handles well with that armour, has great acceleration and a cool engine sound and only 4 gears which makes it easier to drive for a beginner. The only flaw of the Rammer is that it has really low rear suspension that does not handle jump landings that well, on the other hand the front suspension is much higher than the rear which makes it steer into bumpy corners quite well. The Rammer is also quite easy to unlock early on, bought from the in game Market for 6940Cr.
Alrighty, I’ll get the ranger then, and thanks for including settings in your reply too
Cars that are able to equip armor all have the same armor upgrades, so just press Select (not sure on keyboard, but it should say "Toggle Info" in the bottom right) to see the weight of the car and before equipping armor compare it to others.
Grand Duke, Hearse, Wardigger, Cardinal, Limo, Wingman, and Specials
These are generally cars people pick when they want to wreck, but really any car can race or wreck. First instance, the Killerbee might be weak when you hit its door, but it packs a punch when it hits you!
Oooh alright then
Like most of the comments say. Heavy cars don't get pushed around. and cars with High Strength can take more of a beating.
the only one i would warn about is the Muddigger truck. it's a heavy truck, and rolls over very easily & is one of the worst vehicles in the game for racing. i like trucks soo i got it. If you decide to get it, keep suspension to the lowest at all times to minimize rolling over.

If you already decided you're keeping this game forever, it's a great idea to get the Season Pass 1 and 2.
Pass 1 has an armor-pack and 20 cars
Pass 2 has 12 cars $6.49 - $7.49
Happy wrecking!!!
I'm a keyboard player too and mostly use armored Gatecrasher. It's heavier and more durable than most while still being quite fast and easily overpowers the majority of the "normal" cars. Handling it is a little hard though, it takes some practice. Of course, I also recommend the cars some others have already mentioned like the Grand Duke, Hearse, Wingman and so on.
I should also mention that I'm playing on no rules servers where my chances of winning are higher because I can tank some hits from backward busses and outlive the faster, more fragile cars.
+1 for gatecrasher, since i discovered it it made my life easier... and a hell in the same time lmao.
it is wreckfest after all.
Sounds crazy, but a maxed out hearse has 5.5 strength armourless and drives pretty well. Sits 1 point below A class when fully armored.
I just go for looks really, who cares about crashing when you can reset ;)
I would go with Half, Off, Half. Then go with 4,3,4,2 for most vehicles as a "go to settings". See if that helps but I'd really consider using a game controller (Xbox, PlayStation style etc.). Just my opinion though.👍
Aight thanks, and yea I might try buy a controller soon
Cool man, let me know how those settings work for ya. You might have to adjust the 4,3,4,2 part a little, depending on the vehicle and maybe your preference of course, but it's a good "go to setting" overall imo.👍
After having finished all the career modes to unlock cars, I’ve found my 3 GoTos really- 1: hearse (part of DLC pack which I think was $3) - armoured up, I find it deadly in destruction maps.
2: DragSlayer(part of the same DLC) -my awesome V8 heavy car- seems to plough through people in races, is very fast, and seems to handle really well. If there’s lots of jumps, it’s long wheelbase and low riding make it a little unpredictable as to how it’s going to land.
3: Boomer RS - when I need a nimble car with great handling to win a race, this is my beast. Good strength, fast, handles amazingly well, good for gravel and hybrid gravel-tarmac races.
The roadslayer and Speedbird (both reg and GT) are pretty damn impressive if you actually want some speed with your weight, put some heavy armor on the back end for pit-resistance and weight for swinging the corners, then light-medium on the sides and nothing else.
Aight I'll try them out
Nissan Altima
Schoolbus
1993 Land Rover / Range Rover Country. Good starter car
Grand Duke, Rammer, and Wingman are some bigger cars with a higher strength rating.
You can upgrade bumpers and roll cage to make any car stronger if you want.
