So I’m going to start out by saying as an auto tech I’ve neglected my feet and worked in doc marten 6 eye boot shoes for god knows how long. Recently my physical therapist told me I needed to stop because it was making my muscle issues worse, so I bought a pair of blundstone steel toe Chelsea boots and I LOVE THEM they are the best boots I’ve ever worn (thus far). My one only issue is how swelteringly hot my feet get and I was wondering if anyone has good breathable boot sock recommendations? I’ve been wearing the dickies work socks for a long time but at this point they’re too much for these and my hot ass feet and I need some assistance.
Do you size up your boots so it’s not so tight?
Umm I can't say for sure. I wear merino wool socks year round so when I size my boots they already fit right. I would suggest sizing boots with the socks you plan to wear in the winter. Boots too tight will keep your feet cold in the winter on top of being uncomfortable
Wool is what you want. Cotton traps moisture and makes your feet soggy, wool wicks it away. I switched to all wool blend socks years ago and it's helped my feet tremendously.
Big fan of darn tough socks, you can find then on sale some times. I use those and Costco merino wool which are also a lot cheaper
Kirkland signature boot socks. They feel heavy, but I comfortably wear them year round, mostly working outdoors. Decent price and excellent longevity.
Merino wool socks are the way to go. Wool will wick away the sweat. I like the Danish Endurance socks. Been very impressed with them.
I wear wool socks. They’re all actually blend of wool and nylon or poly.
They’re hot. They wick moisture because wool can’t hold much moisture. But if your sweaty foot is in a boot, especially a waterproof one, it doesn’t make any difference.
In fabric athletic shoes they are nicer than cotton. In leather they’re hot. Everything is.
As someone who also struggles with sweaty feet I highly recommend getting the Kirkland signature boot sock. It’s affordable and does the same as pretty much every other boot sock on the market
yes.
Liner socks from an outdoor store under smartwool socks.
Or whatever other wool socks. But the liners are pretty cool. (🙄)
I just use thin ankle socks. Anything that’s not cotton, cotton is the enemy
To those that wear merino wool boot socks; do you size up your boots so it’s not so tight?
Merino wool socks are what you're after. Moisture wicking and I believe they have some antimicrobial proprieties which helps with smell from sweaty feet.
If money isn't an issue I recommend darn tough socks. Full cushion boot socks are what I wear. They're expensive but they have a lifetime warranty. If you want a good deal on some good socks Costco sells a pack of 3 or 4 pairs of merino wool socks for what one pair of darn toughs sell for.
