Hello guys. I have like 40 wordpress websites which I need to backup. I was thinking of installing a backup plugin in each of websites which would allow me to create automated backups for files and databases and store them in dropbox or in hetzner storage box, storage share. Has anyone done the same or is any better or safer method to backup these websites ? Will I face any problem connecting the plugins with the cloud storages ? Thank you!
If you've got 40 wordpress sites I'd recommend looking into a management panel. I've used InfiniteWP for 10+ years and manage 100+ sites. I've set it up to make daily offsite backups to S3 (stored for 14 days) and a second, weekly backup (stored for 156 weeks.) It does this automatically, every day.
There are other good management panels like MainWP and ManageWP that can do the same thing.
But it doesn't stop there. If you're running that many websites you can also use a management panel to update core, plugin, and themes, also vulnerability checks, bulk installation/configuration when I change standard utility plugins, uptime monitoring, manage users, manage comments, scan for malware, and... quite a bit more.
They all have some kind of plugin you need to add, and each one has their own different backup methods. (I think MainWP lets you choose from several common backup plugins.) InfiniteWP and MainWP are both premium software you install on your own server. ManageWP is cloud based and priced per site.
Bonus: I shouldn't have to say it but it's good to know they're all pretty good at actually restoring backups as well as making them.
Seriously though, if you're managing more than maybe 10 websites you should seriously look into a management panel.
I have cPanel... I'm only trying to backup websites outside the server.
Oh yeah, MainWP, InfiniteWP, or ManageWP are very different from cPanel!
cPanel is for managing servers. The others are for managing Wordpress. cPanel by definition won't back your site up outside the server. All the Wordpress managers will.
In particular they'll work across multiple cPanel hosting accounts, not just multiple Wordpress sites.
