2 Story Whataburger! Corpus Christi, TX Who’s been?
It’s where they keep all the water
This is OG.
My grandpa took me to this Whataburger when I was younger I’ll never forget being able to see South Padre from the second story.
Edit: Apologies, no disrespect that was my mistake lol. I definitely remember USS Lexington also was taken there and went back 1 year when I was older during Halloween and they turned it into a haunted house along with its haunted stories and rumors. I only grew up there but moved to McAllen/Edinburg where I became more familiar with SPI. Never forget sitting next to the Selena tribute and watching the waves 🕊️
It's in Corpus Christi overlooking the Bay. You can see the USS Lexington, but I can see it mistaken for S Padre as a kid.
I hate to break it to you, but you can't see Padre Island from where that whataburger is, it looks out over Corpus Christi Bay in the opposite direction of Padre Island. You were either seeing across Corpus Christi Bay and looking at Ingleside or you were looking at Mustang Island. But because NAS-CC sort of juts out into Corpus Christi Bay, pretty much nothing on Ocean Dr/ Shoreline Blvd can see Padre Island. And also, definitely not South Padre because the break between Padre and South Padre Island happens in Port Mansfield.
Apologies. I’m originally from the Valley so any beach is south padre to me unfortunately lol
Damn you got vision that can see over 100 miles that’s bad ass from corpus to Spi it took us about another 3.5 hrs just to see the bridge in port Isabel
Go home Corpus Your drunk
Most people here are drunk. LOL
North Padre island prolly but not South padre island
It can be nice on the deck. Not so nice at night during june bug season or when the clouds of roaches come buzzing through. Also notice the seagulls.
No but June bug season in Texas can be horrible at times
Been there lots, cool place
It's the flagship store, celebrating that the first Whataburger was in Corpus Christi. That's why there's a statue of Harman Dobson inside.
I got drunk for one of my first times when I was like 21/22 downtown and threw up in that restroom for a good 20-30 mins
Well, what happens in a Gulf Coast fast food bathroom usually happens in a Gulf Coast Whataburger bathroom.
I go to it occasionally but not as cool as it used to be, there used to be a gift shop and a second cash register upstairs for ordering food upstairs
Lana Del Rey song title
She made a song called "2 story Whataburger"?
lol not exactly, it’s a insider joke like the ones made about her song title names and album “did you know there’s a tunnel under ocean blvd”
Yup. Stare at ALL the things at the aquarium all day (yes, open to close), then devour everything on the menu.
Is this the only two story?
There are some with offices and/or storage upstairs, but I don't think any others have upstairs customer areas...maybe a one off in a funky place like on a college campus.
Fun fact, the old really tall A frame from the '60s had a second floor hidden in that high roof. They had storage up there.
I’m not sure but I do know Corpus had the original Whataburger.
The original location is, of course, long gone. It was really nothing more than a shed with a grill in it. But there's a Whataburger in Corpus that has a storage shed that's painted to look like that first location.
The one on Staples and Everhart.
Vegas is two stories as well. Only other one
My favorite whataburger Building
The drink thing on the 2nd story is cool. Lol went here twice we had basketball tournaments in corpus
With a William Wilhelmi ceramic mural.
I went to Corpus Christi and drove past it. The fact that I didn't eat there haunts me to this day.
You’ll get another chance
I ate there once when I went to Corpus Christi, and it was really weird to use an elevator in a Whataburger, or even see stairs. I also saw someone with a thing of small fries from McDonald’s, eating like 10 feet away from us… in a Whataburger.
Been there, done that. Near my home town
They should make all their stores like this one.
Went last year and I would not recommend. The restaurant was very dirty, the male restroom was a complete disaster, and homeless people were right outside the front door asking for money.
I went last October, my experience was the exact opposite. Sorry your experience sucked. Give it another try sometime.
I’ve been a few times over the years. None of the experiences were memorable; I was likely hungover each and every visit.
I’m older, wiser, and don’t drink anymore. If I want to see beach, I go to south padre.
Went the first day it opened it was packed AF
The seagulls haunt me..
I’d eat there twice, once at each level.
Live here now. Been a thousand times as a kid. Eff them seagulls boiiii
It's the original
Negative. Original location was basically a shed with a grill in it and was next to the community college. This location opened some time in the '80s I think...or was maybe rebuilt on the site of an '80s location later. That first location was in 1950.
Nope...... original was on Ayers across from Del Mar college its a run down taco joint now
It’s got a gift shop too! Bought a ketchup shirt there back in high school and I’m now wondering where the fuck it’s at a decade later
You can get a replacement for that shirt online now!
I can still hear the seagulls flying above me!
I just feel bad for the FC runners….like how does that work? Do they have to run orders up the stairs?
There’s an elevator
Yes, all day we running upstairs no joke.
apparently its the og whataburger. i used to eat there regularly cuz i worked in a nearby building and it was either that or bk for lunch. id go to bk if i was broke but if not it was wb for lunch usually.
I thought that too. It’s an OG Whataburger, but not the OG. That was on Ayers but it’s long gone. There’s a replica at the one on Staples though. Was pretty neat to see.
All the time when I went to TAMUCC
This looks like an old warzone poi
I once ate there and saw a guy carrying a legit hobo bindle.
I use to live in Corpus. And I was your window cleaner for a while. I remember doing the construction clean up.
It’s awesome
Worked there for a few months. Called it club whataburger because how busy it got at night and the amount of drunk people coming in. The police presence was insane.
Whataburgers on the Texas coast are always the best. This location in particular is excellent
I have
Bet I didn’t care. Cause In and Out is king.
My family goes there every time we go to corpus, love it
I lived a mile away from this and worked two blocks further. I remember being blacked out here.. numerous times.
At least 100 times
I got caught in the crossfire of some pepper spray on the second floor at this whataburger so idk what to think
Ate there today!
Me!! It was so crowded and the workers had to walk our food up the stairs which looked like it sucked
Me and my group of friends went here before prom. Walking up those stairs in high heels and rather tipsy was very hard and terrifying. Especially since I never really wore heels before that lmfao
Legend has it the ketchups on the second story regenerate when taken.
Whataburger hasn’t been the same since they sold out back in 2019.
Bet you the food still sucks ass and costs as much as a roadhouse
Second floor kinda sucks.
Seagulls and wind make it uncomfortable.
Across the street is the only working telephone booth that I have found in Corpus lol
Down town Corpus Christi
I live only 40-50 minutes away I’ve passed by it a hundred times, and have never eaten there.
Double whataburger!
I have.
Yah me
Used to live in Corpus and went there many times. Great view of the Lexington (which was the location of my Kindergarten graduation)
I remember smashing a fat number 1 there after a bar crawl about a decade ago…. Ahhh the memories
I’ve eaten there. Back before whataburger sucked
It was dope before they remodeled it.
Currently in an Airbnb 5 minutes away. I’m going for breakfast. Probably my 10th time ordering there I love it for the novelty.
The other day, a seagull snatched my fries from my table. I don't eat on the top deck that often anymore.
Went on a trip with Ag and I’ve been, it was a great trip from up north of Texas.
I’ve been!!!!!
Hell on earth for the employees probably lol
I’d be far more interested in learning the identities of the six people in this subreddit that somehow don’t know this
I believe it is also the first whataburger
Me and my buddies went when we’re in our early twenties and the customer service was absolutely atrocious. The main thing I remember was I was about to throw my trash away and one lady got stopped me and told me that if I throw away that unopened ketchup packet that I’ll have to give the store $0.67. I was a dumb kid so I just handed it to her she snatched it out of my hands and walked it back to the register but the was the first and last time we went there. It is really nice there though
New bucket list item unlocked.
On Shoreline. I've eaten there many times. Only been upstairs once though. It's a great location.
Bet you I’ve thrown down a number 5 there drunk AF no less than 30 times.
The most redneck looking thing
I hear employees get treated better in those whataburgers than the ones out of state lol
I’ve been, it was definitely cool
I’ve been there. On the upstairs balcony the seagulls will fight you for your fries.
wtf everyone knows this
My daughter lives in Corpus, I have been there alot.
Literally EVERYONE in Texas knows that there’s a 2 Storu whataburger. Are you not familiar with whataburger, whataburger??
My go to date spot!
I've been. It's nice but they messed my order up bad! Every burger and fry was cold to the point where the cheese wasn't even melted. We complained and they brought us everything fresh but wasn't expecting it from the one that started em all.
It's neat
That place is always dirty and all the riff raff hangout there at night is avoid it
I've been there with my dad. I think it was the last kids meal I ever got.
Who cares? It’s just Whataburger. It’s like going to Burger King
I was born and raised in TEXAS. WHATABURGER KINDA SUCKS. . .Just saying they're very unimpressive. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE !
It changed ownership and went downhill fast.
Everyone knows and no one cares.
Any true texan/whataburger afficionado knows this
