Whats Geraldton like to raise kids? Is there good schools? Good activity's and things to do as a family and activity's to enrol the kids into? Is there any particular area that's better or worst. Any other tips or advice for things to know about raising a family in Geraldton
Rangeway, Utakarra and Karloo. Not sure what Spalding is like these days either... Not to discourage anyone away from Gero though, I enjoyed it there and am looking to get back with my own little one.
I moved back with kids after a decade a decade away. Crazy amounts of playgrounds etc. Foreshore is really awesome for taking your kids
buy your fruits and veg from the local fresh market on gregory street, the side of the cherries I ate from there not long ago were huge and delicious
We just moved here 6 months ago with a 2 year old. Haven’t personally experienced any crime but it is definitely around. If you find a house in a good area you should be fine, schools are good, SO many activities for the children of all ages, like something on every day of the school holidays. Plenty of free things to do in the area to keep the kids busy. Close enough to Perth to go for the weekend. I work in a secondary Private school and it’s great, kids are great, staff are great, and my child is signed up to pre kindy next year at a private school. Anything else, drop me a DM 😀
It’s a good little town. The crime rate is pretty bad especially in certain areas so do some further research and invest in a secure place. All the private school are good if you’re able to afford that. I went to allendale primary school and I turned out just fine. Schooling all depends on what catchment area you live in. But there’s plenty of after school activities from sport-theatre-beach. It’s a nice town because it’s smaller than Perth but larger than most other rural towns which provides more opportunities for kids. There’s an amazing squash club I used to play at on…eighth street I think..? Anyways growing up in gero definitely provided me with a little extra character compared to my new city friends 😂
There’s a great circus school there!
Rangeway, Spalding, Karloo, some sections of Waggrakine are places I wouldn't live. Anecdotally there is a lot of opportunistic crime going on (looking through unlocked vehicles, nicking stuff unattended from yards like push bikes). Other than that all good. Not sure on schools but there are plenty of options from public to catholic or Christian. The foreshore area is great for kids, plenty of sport options around. The city has all things covered and everything is only a five minute drive. Having just spent a week down in Perth not being stuck in traffic all of the time is a godsend.
I was born there and only moved away last year (I'm 25, so I was there for 24 years) there are plenty of things to do, and there are several great schools, particularly private schools. I recommend trying to get a house in Sunset Beach, Drummond's, Glenfiled, or Wandina. Avoid Spalding, Rangeway, and Karloo at all costs as they have the highest crime rates.
As long as you avoid spalding and rangeway. The abos are really bad
Dunno, never been.. good luck bud.
I live in Geraldton! I’ve only been here 2 years and have a 9 month old so I’m not that sure on schools and things but I like it here. Drummond Cove and Glenfield is a nice area, as well as Sunset Beach. You want to avoid Rangeway for sure
