Plug-and-charging as I type this. It doesn't start charging immediately, the little circle was spinning for a little bit. I waited to see if I had to press "Continue", but no, you can just plug and get back in the car. Nice.
2023 US built ID.4
Did it take a while to activate on the app? i followed the instructions on the email and its been an hour and it still says ‘activation in progress’
Took 30ish minutes for me
same here
Close out your app and reopen the accounts tab, mine said activating when I closed it and about 15 minutes later I closed it out and reopened and it showed enrolled.
Mine was nearly instant. Hit enroll, restarted the app and it said I was good to go. Drove over to test it as soon as I saw it was good.
Thanks for the confirmation
Any idea if you can still have two free sessions without the 60 minute cool off period?
I just did two sessions back to back without issue, no cool down period and both used sessions started via plug and charge.
Thanks for the info and the video! Much appreciated.
I've done this once before but it didn't work recently. Any ideas on what you did?
For me I literally unplugged it. Waited like a minute or so, then plugged it back in (there was no one else waiting for my spot)
I was wondering this, glad this trick still works.
thanks! This is what I needed to know to switch! EA throttles/have broken chargers frequently, so sometimes I need more than 30 minutes
I’ve unplugged after 18 min once and then plugged for 30min and it was all free
Thank you
That's what I'm waiting to find out also before I activate the plug and charge on my account.
Plug and sit and watch spinners and charge
Wow. $0.36/kwh. Must be nice. It is $0.56/kwh for EA around my area in the Bay Area
Now calculate the average wage of the Bay Area vs wherever this is
Probably more closely related to the utility rates in California —— 27 cents per kWh in the middle of the night, “special” EV charging rate in my county. Though it’s all related, I gotta admit.
Worked great, did 2 sessions back to back- only issue, no notification on app or text
Wait, are you kidding me? Ever since I took possession of my 2023 ID.4, I understood that you had to wait a 60 minute period between two charging sessions of 30 minutes each. So I literally would charge for 30 minutes drive away and do some shopping then come back for another 30 minutes. How long has it been possible to do two charging sessions back to back? All I have to do is unplug it, wait a minute and plug it back in for a second (back to back) free charging session?
When there are no waiting cars, I stop charging after 30 min. Unplug it and close the EA app. When the EA stall is showing plug in first, plug in and start the EA app. Wait till connection with your car is successful and start your 30 min free from the app. Happy charging (for free)
Thanks! You just changed my life
This. I usually do 30 mins, 45 seconds. Unplug, plug back in and until either full or whatever percent I'm going for
Haha! You can do back to back asap (if you’re not inconveniencing someone else)
Wow, that’s an amazing find, the EA Station was up and running.
How about 2022 ID4?
We’ve got a 2022 and got the email notification, but the option doesn’t show up in the app.
Suh'weet! And look at that cheap rate! It's $0.56kw/hr here!
I would have had no idea I could do this if it weren’t for Reddit. wtf ea and vw.
So the only step it eliminates is holding your phone to the NFC reader (or sliding the start charge toggle on the station ID in EA app when NFC is inevitably not working)? Still have to press 'Continue' on the screen to begin charge 😂 Plug & Charge to me means "Plug in and walk away"
You don’t have to hit continue, it will continue on its own after a few seconds. I just wanted to skip the screen for the videos sake.
Good to know, thanks!
Can you share the account if you set this up? You couldn’t with evgo. Dont want to lose that feature.
I believe yes, but I have no way to test on my end.
Seems like the same to me before the update
Nice! I'm looking forward to trying it.
Great to see this finally implemented. It took forever.
Worked on my 23 ID4 Pro! Charging now.
I’ve seen enough Tesla videos. You’re supposed to tap your car with the charger twice first. /s
I’m sorry if this isn’t on the topic of charging, but I’ve read that VW has improved the software and user-interface of the ID4. Are those improvements backwards compatible with the earliest years of the model?
Thanks for sharing. EA made some weird UI choices. I freaked out first time I successfully charged when I hit the Continue button and the blue “thanks for choosing EA” screen popped up. It looks and feels like the transaction had ended and not just starting.
