Elena Gilbert appreciation post. What do you love about her? (haters abstain please)
Your compassion is a gift Elana, carry it with you always and forever, Another reason my her an Elijah are the most emotionally intelligent people on the show.
YES! So much this! I’m not really an Elena fan, but I do love that about early seasons Elena.
THIS.
I'm not a big fan of Elena (I'm more neutral about her), but clearly I liked this scene so much. That's one of the rare moments where characters think in a general view and not the one they are only interested about. Because, of course, if Damon had something with Katherine and she died (in Elena's mind at this moment), of course he gets to have the "sorry for you" scene too and not only Stefan. Even when you hate someone, if you can relate to their traumatizing life events you have to admit you can be sorry and compassionate about it to them.
Same! I think that’s why I liked her and then started to like her less when she got feelings for Damon.
I’m NOT a hater or anti-Delena. I just noticed liking her less, and getting a little annoyed with her. She used to have compassion but made no excuses. I felt like when she was with Damon, she maybe made excuses for his behaviors. But that’s just me. 🤷♀️
I didn’t like that she (AND EVERYONE ELSE) was so eager to sacrifice themselves, lol.
I love that kitchen scene. Damon's face at that moment was everything!
Right? She could been selfish and get jealous but the sweetheart she was she genuinely felt sorry for him. I loved Elena from the get go.
I loved how she was mentally tough enough to not go mentally insane after finding out about vampires than seeing her identical doppelgänger
Listen human Elena stood on Business. Girl was not afraid to go against vamps and risk her life, especially when it came to Stefan, and I feel that is really overlooked.
She relentlessly sticks by her group and that’s pretty admirable.
crazy you already got downvoted lol. but i just like pre-season 4 elena. that’s when her character is absolutely amazing. i still think her arc of wanting to sacrifice herself for her loved ones is one of my favourites. it caused some great scenes and just gave her independence. she was a character you could sympathise for
This!
Face card never declined
I love that she tries to protect her loved ones as much as they try to protect her. She's not on board with people she loves dying to save her. I never understood why so many fans call her selfish.
I also love that despite all her trauma from nearly dying in the crash that killed her parents, she doesn't entirely give up on life or those she loves. She's not afraid to continue to love others despite knowing how much loss hurts. People who call her whiny have zero understanding of that depth of grief.
I also love that she does have flaws. Perfect characters who do no wrong are unrealistic and boring.
The lack of fear when Elijah shows up for the first time. She knew it was her life or her loved ones and she didn’t even blink
She was the glue❤️
Literally. I could not watch the show when she left
I may not particularly like her, but I do admire the fact that she's so willing to sacrifice herself for her loved ones.
"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
John 15:13 😂
She had her blind spots (and those cost her), but she was really smart about people and often had her finger on the pulse when it came to understanding what made them tick. It's how even as a human she could stay ahead of many powerful vampires and maneuver situations to her advantage. It was especially great when she was playing with or against someone at her level, like Stefan.
That's what I love most about her character, personally. A lot of things people bring up as "positive" traits are not... things I see in her person, tbh (I think a lot of fans listen to her words but don't look at her actions). But what I do see makes for one hell of a fascinating protagonist, IMO.
ETA: she was also really, really daring and had a mentality of "high risk, high reward" that made her fun to watch in action. See when she took off her necklace to convince Damon in S1, or when she stabbed herself in front of Elijah.
Really. I like how smart she was especially in season one. She figured out Stefan pretty quickly and reacted pretty sanely.
Such a good point! Elena was so empathetic and really took the time to understand people. Her trauma gave her a more thoughtful perspective on life and she was honestly so kind-hearted yet fiercely loyal.
See, the last part is where I disagree. I don't find Elena to be particularly kind-hearted or loyal in a way that stands out to me, especially vis a vis other characters; she was very, very selective about who she bestowed that empathy upon. Which I'm fine with for her as a character! But these really are traits I can't see applied to her in such a generalised way. The way she treats the Salvatores, for example, or Elijah, is quite different from the way she treats Bonnie, or Caroline, or secondary characters who don't rate highly for her like Tyler.
She was a fighter when she's running from a vampire season one a breaks pencils ✏ I'm like Yes keep fighting 💪 break those pencils! She also broke a mop! Say what you want but Elena was never Just a Human!
Her outfits💕
I like her bravery, she was willing to stand up to creatures far older than her if it meant protecting her loved ones.
Not brave. Stupid
Like Elijah said, her compassion was her greatest strength. Credit and props to Nina Dobrev for giving the character life for as long as she did on TVD
She’s pretty and has a cute smile.
Human Elena was so brave! I loved when she followed through her threats to Elijah. That was badass.
Last thing, She never wanted to be a vampire. She appreciated being a human and didn't want the powers. She was smart not to want it. She didn't want an easy fix.
love elena. i want a girlfriend like her. she never leaves anyone in their tough times. always ready to sacrifice herself for her loved ones, shes very selfless, caring and compassionate.
I honestly love season 4 Elena slowly start embracing herself as a vampire. It went from her curse that needed to be cured to her gift. (It’s also why I dislike that she took the cure in season 6)
In no particular order:
Her hair and style in the early seasons
Her selflessness in willing to sacrifice herself for her friends (again—in the early seasons lol)
Her devotion to Stefan and never giving up on him during his low points in S3
She has the most gorgeous face
Her stabbing herself in front of Elijah (BADASS)
Her ability to forgive and see the best in people (again, early seasons)
Don’t get me wrong, I engage in a lot of Elena shit talking too lol but I do want to recognize that I think she was a very sympathetic protagonist and definitely anchored the success of the show
Her compassion in the earlier seasons.
Her bravery. Her beauty and style - still influential 15 years later
I love elena (pre season 4) and nobody could ever make me hate her!!!!!! She’s beautiful, selfless, compassionate, and always willing to put herself in danger to protect people. She also has the hottest vampires ever at her feet the haters are just jealous tbh
Her compassion. While many of us like to believe we are compassionate individuals, it takes a great deal of pure and natural compassion to truly understand people who appear as villains and display villainous behaviour. Elena barely knew half of his story at that point but she still understood that Damon had suffered deeply too, and while she didn’t necessarily like him much at that point, she treated him sweetly, because she knew that he was just as much of a victim as Stefan was, in regard to Katherine. She could see the loving human boy hidden beneath Damon’s big bad vampire exterior, and she refused to ignore it because it represented the pained goodness inside of him. Elena always sees the good in people and tries to understand them, which isn’t something many of the other characters do. It makes her stand out. She was also wise beyond her years and incredibly mature when it came to interacting with others.
Elena is selfless. She’s protective, kind and caring beyond belief.
She's kind and pretty and a good person
I love the fact that she always try to find/bring out the good in people. She is extremely loyal, has a good heart and is super pretty.
her love for those she cares about>>>>
She’s stunningly beautiful and kind.
How she was willing to sacrifice herself to save her friends and family
I like her season 1 mostly, but like every scene before she knows about the whole supernatural thing, I don't really like her in a romantic relationship. The character they showed was already cool, she was open-minded, hard-working, trying to be a better person, facing some hard moments in her life and having to learn how to manage everything. I love the moments when she learns every little thing, whereas it was about her boyfriend, brother-in-law, friends and enemies (I love when they all are with Rose, when she says "Elijah ?" and Rose answers "no, Elijah is the Easter bunny compared to Klaus" and you clearly see how much Klaus is a big deal when you don't know about him yet 😂). I love that she breaks down sometimes, it makes her human.
And like Elijah said : « your compassion is a gift Elena, carry it with you always and forever ».
Season 1-2 Elena was standing on BUSINESS
For me it's her bravery and mental strength. Also she can lowkey be a badass and a savage
Her resilience- the girl got out of bed everyday and held it together well….
Most people would have fallen to pieces much earlier than she did!
I actually have a love hate relationship with ekena. Every time I rewatch I always change my mind 😂 I think what stands out the most is her compassion, and love for those closest to her. I know that what it wants you to think, but those two for me deffo stood out the most. Throughout it all. Even after she left the show it was still mentioned! And she chose correctly, Damon 👌😂
I think she’s beautiful and such a deep lover. Even with her humanity gone her love for people runs so deep Matt brought her back. Elena is actually one of my favorites & her leaving made a big difference in the show for me
That she's not like her book type. In the books she's a typical mean girls type bitch who only wants Stefan because he ignored her.
Empathy and compassion. She desires to understand and connect, even with those who have done great harm. Not to forgive. But to help them heal.
That she resolutely remains tender. Everything she went through gave her plenty of reason to become as cold & cruel as Katherine, but she refused to with everything in her. It hurts her more at times, but it’s an under appreciated type of strength and she deserves all the kudos in the world for it.
For me, she was just as willing to die to protect her friends as they were for her (though it bothers me how willing these teens were to die haha). More than that, she has conviction and stands by what she says and decides. I mean, one of the biggest “Oh damn” moment was when she called Elijah’s bluff and stabbed herself in the gut.
Of course, this Elena all but disappeared after she became a vampire, but I still love her regardless. She’s my second of my top three (with Rebekah being second and Bonnie being my number one).
Possibly an unpopular game but I loved her as both a human and a vampire I loved how when she was a human she wasn’t afraid to stand up to vampores and pit herself in harms way for those she loves (like when she head it’s Rebekah) And, when she’s a vampire, she still keeps a lot of her humanity and she tries to stay within her morals (she literally buried the hunter she kills it’s so sad) and when she’s offered the cure in s4 and is stammer that if there’s only one, there are other people who deserve it just as much and more than her.
Her selflessness
Not really a Elena fan but I don’t really dislike her either. Actually, her chipperness got on my nerves LMAO but I’m not going to dish out any hate to her because I can’t appreciate her Need to see the good in everybody and save them. the way she goes about it is borderline self-destructive especially when always putting herself in danger, which sometimes resulted in the plans being messed up because of her, which is why I can see sometimes they left her out of it. BUT her intentions are good so I can’t really fault her. She never wanted to hurt anybody that she may have hurt. I also appreciate the fact that she supported Alaric moving on from Jenna in her house, and she supported Bonnie and Jeremy knowing that if they broke up, it could be a disaster (like it was lol) she just wanted everybody to be happy.
I love that she is often warm and kind to people, but she can also use people underestimating her to her advantage. For the most part her compassion is her strength- it's what gets everyone to fall for her and protect her and respect her.
I like her overall as a character tbh
She’s very kind, caring, and compassionate. She’s genuinely sweet and cares about the people she loves. She’s a ray of light in a dark world.
I love how she’s able to see past her own hypocrisy, and not let guilt bring her down.
Her dedication to stick by her choices and the dedication to her friends and family.
I loved her with no humanity. she finally broke some morals. i actually loved her as a vampire altogether
I like her kindness
Love that she was willing to put her life on the line for her family and friends multiple times throughout the series
Her willingness to do anything for her friends. All she wanted was for them to live a happy life.
She is brave
She's compassionate, self sacrificing, and can be selfless. I admire her and especially in the earlier seasons I actually see bits of myself in her. In the sense that shed rather die in place of her friends. People call her giving herself up to Klaus her giving up but I see it as her doing what she could to protect her family. It's admirable.
elena had so much self-awareness. i don't know why people say she acted like she was this perfect vampire when she always recognized the bad things she had done, even when she was in a good place she still acknowledged that she was capable of doing terrible things.
Beside her obvious compassion I love how strong yet sensitive she is, I see a lot of myself in her and I love that
She’s extremely loving and empathetic, even to those who she probably shouldn’t be. When her humanity is turned off, Elijah says “it would be a shame if the world lost a soul as compassionate as [hers].”
I looove that about her and I love that scene!!
She was kind (most of the time) loyal, tried her best to protect everyone it wasn't her fault everyone was obsessed with her and pedophile vampires fell in love with her. She deserved better not even just in the series but the reception of her character is abysmal
She put her friends first and would never let them sacrifice themselves for her. She didn't feel more important, and how her guilt over everything that happened to her loved ones because of her is literally what pushed her to turn her humanity off. (Hated that version of her, though) spoiler I also remember crying when she told stefan to save Matt instead of her. It was really selfless. Lowkey also one of the moments where I believed Stefan was better for her than Damon. But I don't necessarily feel that way as a whole.
She was my favourite character on the show. She wasn’t perfect and sometimes said or did things that were misguided or hypocritical or unfair. But all the characters did. We all do. I’ve never understood the hate for Elena beyond that people who ship her with either Stefan or Damon hate her for being with either one of them.
My favourite qualities in Elena were being insanely strong in the face of raging adversity and being empathetic to those around her. She also was never petty. You could feel from the start of the show how the loss she had already experienced had given her the wisdom to not focus on dumb stuff that didn’t matter. At the same time she wasn’t boring or preachy and always did her best to live in the world and enjoy things.
Also she was insanely beautiful and had a certain physical grace that was lovely to watch.
I love that Elena made Katherine look infinitely more interesting doppelgänger. Jk I liked season 1 Elena. I understood her motivations and why she was so special to people around her. They did a good job humanizing her.
She was very compassionate. Even though Stefan told her how bad Damon was in the first season, she recognized that he concealed his emotions by acting like he didn’t care and pushing people away. When she hugged him, (after Rose died & when Katherine wasn’t in the tomb) he didn’t seem to know how to respond. It was like no one had ever shown him that they cared about his feelings. I thought that said a lot about both characters. I know I started to see Damon differently after that. She also tried to be compassionate to Katherine when everyone was celebrating her impending death. Of course, Katherine took advantage of that and stole her body. That was when I gave up on trying to like Katherine.
She's beautiful, brave, strong, and kind. Honestly the way people hate on her for stupid reasons might just make me like her even more
as much as i say i dont like her, i do like how caring she is of her family and friends. shes very likeable in that aspect.
Elena in the first 3 seasons was pretty amazing. She was so warm and cared so much about everyone around her. She was also pretty easy going and I liked her sense of humor.
So much! I loved the bravery and smarts it took for her to go toe to toe with vampires and originals, and she often won based on them underestimating her which made her sm more interesting to me, she never shied away from that fight, as one of the only humans that was incredible.
She was very forgiving, while sometimes that could annoy me to no end (especially when Katherine went on to steal her body like 3 episodes later but ig thats more on her), its what made the show work and was nice to see her bring out a different perspective on damon/stefan/Elijah with her efforts to understand them.
I liked how she stuck by stefan when he went away with Klaus/ turned out to be a ripper early on. I cant lie I would've tapped so far out but her devotion at that point couldn't be questioned. I liked her darker build up with damon. Did not like the end relationship though, thought her character fell away after that.
Obviously her self sacrificing nature for her friends/family was a common theme that I loved. The elijah daggering scene to save Damon was 100% my fave of the show. Saving Matt, slitting her own throat etc. She really did some wild things.
ALSO I loved that her character had rly realistic flaws in the early seasons, only character I don't like is one that is supposed to be perfect. The show took it upon itself especially in season 3/4 to bring these out. Her sending Jeremy away was wrong, and shouldn't have been done, but is a very realistic action I can see an 18 year old making under extreme circumstances when they think their only sibling is about to die. She was suicidal and tried to hide it behind sacrifice, I liked that Stefan called that out.
i love her when her humanity’s off 😭😭 she just finds little ways to get on my nerves otherwise. however i will admit in most of the first two seasons she showed compassion towards most people and i can respect that
I love Elena and I’ll defend her forever, people who hate her hate for stupid reasons like her being a crybaby or too whiny like if I lost everyone I know js bc some guy wanted to meet me cause I looked like his Ex I would pissed to
Her looks. She’s amazingly stunning.
She’s brave
Her empathy and courage.
.
She's such a sweetheart. She's always ready to sacrifice herself for her loved ones no matter what. Look at all she's lost and she still manages to be so kind towards others.
She is so emotional and soft. I like how she dealt with Stefans secret in season 1
She’s literally constantly so selfless I don’t understand how people think she’s selfish
I love Elena but I started to dislike her when she became a vampire
Elena won my heart the day she sacrificed herself for matt ( when they were drowning and stefan came for their rescue)
You know I actually made a post about the one thing I like about her a while back.I’m not a fan of hers but I can appreciate one or two things about her. You can’t comment on the post anymore but it’s here.
Hee bravery when she was with Stefan.
Having the balls to wake up Elijah was really nice to see.
I’ll follow the rules 🤭🤐
I just abstained 😂 She was very willing to sacrifice herself for her friends 💁🏾♀️
Nothing
I liked that she was forgiving. I also liked that she was friendly when it came to new faces.
Omg she looks like a sim from The Sims 4 in CAS in this pic lol
love her in season 1/2
I like how she still cared about caroline even after she was mean and insensitive to her in season 1. Also, she was always ready to sacrifice herself for hr friends and family, that's a good quality of hers I really admire.
Her loyalty
I gotta admit I loved her in season 7
This outfit that about it.
Well her compassion and bravery are the only things that she has going for her that the other characters don't have but I also liked that she wasn't all gung-ho about being a vampire like a lot of the vampires were post transition I just hate how they handled her in post season 3
her death 😍😍🫰
TBH the only thing I love about Elena is Damon🥵
Uhm… She looked cute… ish. In the first three seasons at least
Nothing. 😝
🏅 here you go this is for being soo original
Honestly Season 1 Elena being so compassionate to Damon without having feelings for him is her best feature. Like when they are im the kitchen and she say "I'm sorry about Kathrine, you lost her too". Damon did not expect that. And compassion is why Stephan fell in love with her.
