I just finished season 3 and am wondering about the accuracy of the feeding of the 5000… wasn’t the feeding of the 5000 near Bethesda and to Jews and used 5 loaves and 2 fish? The feeding of the 4000 that happens after the 5k was near the decapolis and to the gentiles and used 7 loaves and a few small fish. Am I going crazy to think this episode got it wrong?
Ah ok, seems odd to me… especially since the feeding of 5k then later on 4k happened after John the Baptist was killed. I can understand why they’d do it but in my honest opinion they could have cut out some other fluff and kept more scripture in the show but I’m a nobody lol still a great show!
Yeah, it isn't the first time he fudged on the timeline or location. But to hear the reasoning behind it, or even him admit "oops" was interesting and/or forgivable. I highly recommend the Roundtables, there's one for each episode of each season.
This is taken from "The Feeding Of the 4,000" from Matthew 15:32-39 and Mark 8:1-9.
Right, but that happened after the feeding of the 5000, both Matthew and mark record a feeding of 5000 and a feeding of the 4000. If the episode was the 4000 then they already fed the 5000 and didn’t do any episodes on it. They also got the basket of food wrong if this was supposed to be the 4000 because in Matthew and Mark it was 7 loaves and a few small fish.
I heard that because some scenarios are similar or happen in very similar settings, sometimes they’re blended a bit together. So I’m guessing this is one of them and another would be the water scene with calming the storm
If you watch the Roundtables, they discuss this very thing. He chose to combine the 5k and 4k events because they were both in the general vicinity and it was more practical from a logistics point for filming.
