I know our codex is likely a way off, but do you think GW will go the route they went with Tau Battlesuits and make a separate sheet for the Russ commander weapon types?
Feels silly to have to pay for a demo if I want something different!
They could probably group them into cheap, mid tier and expensive
I personally hope they get rid of the tank commander datasheet entirely and make it an upgrade to any tank.

Yeah, I really enjoyed that ability last edition. Having a rogal dorn as a tank commander for 25 extra points was cool. I just hope our codex includes a lot of the cool stuff we had in 9th. But with the way 10th is going for codexes, I doubt it.
10th codex look exactly like index with a few more detachments, they dont fix anything, the most lazy books gw has ever created, and the most unneccessary too...
Honestly at their cost, the tank commanders should probably just have the core abilities from the Russ with the turret they are using (and just bump up the demo tank commander a few points). Death Befitting an Officer rarely does anything, at least for me since my TC's tend to die while engaged more than anything else.
Shoot on death is one of the best rules in the game, Tank Commanders are one of the best units in the index hands down right now
It SHOULD be one of the best rules, but because of the ruling on BGNT and out of phase actions in general, if your TC dies while engaged, it doesn't get to shoot at all.
Because "as if it was your shooting phase" does not mean as if it was your shooting phase.
How so? I need some explanation here.
OUT-OF-PHASE RULES Some rules allow a model or unit to move, shoot, charge or fight outside of the normal turn sequence. For example, the Fire Overwatch Stratagem enables a unit to shoot in the opponent’s turn as if it were your Shooting phase. When using out-of-phase rules to perform an action as if it were one of your phases, you cannot use any other rules that are normally triggered in that phase.
BIG GUNS NEVER TIRE Monster and Vehicle units are eligible to shoot in their controlling player’s Shooting phase even while they are within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units.
Death Befitting An Officer: When this model is destroyed, roll one D6: on a 2+, do not remove it from play – it can, after the attacking model’s unit has finished making its attacks, shoot as if it were your Shooting phase and as if it had its full wounds remaining. This model is then removed from play.
Simply put. Death Befitting an Officer allows you to shoot on death, which can happen on your opponents turn while the tank is in Engagment Range. Big Guns Never Tire let's your tank shoot while in Engagement Range During your Shooting Phase. The Out of Phase Ruling says when you shoot outside of your shooting phase you can't use any other rules that would apply during your Shooting Phase. So you would not be able to shoot on death with your tank if it is in Engagement Range. THUS AS IF IT IS YOUR SHOOTING PHASE DOES NOT MEAN AS IF IT WAS YOUR SHOOTING PHASE.

Thanks, that seems like an oversight on behalf of GW though. I would have thought specific rules (Death befitting of an officer) would trump generic rules. Hope GW changes this, because it isn't even that crazy of an ability.

I say this as a person trying to have a healthy discussion and learn and not trying to be combative or argumentative.

I would argue that BGNT isn't a triggered rule and is a rule that is always on

That's actually how I would have interpreted it as well, but from what I have heard, it's been ruled at tournaments the other way. Big Guns Never Tire only applies to your shooting phase as of right now.

I’m hoping they change the tank commander to a small upgrade that can be attached to any vehicle. Maybe it’s like 20 points for an order or they can make them more expensive and have them come with more abilities like giving the tank a ballistic skill of 3+ or something.
I honestly dont think they will. That sounds pretty close to a Wargear item and we know that they arent going down the individual costs for wargear route. At most it'll be a Relic in a Tank detachment, which would suck, because it'd be a mandatory take. Kinda like Grand Strategist is now.
I wish we got 1 unit with 3 different shell types so you could choose mid game.
Like a vanquisher shell, a battle shell and a demolisher profile.
