I’ll admit the first two episodes I was struggling with it, mainly because I was so excited about Carrie-Ann Moss as a Jedi, only for her to be slain in the first scene.
But after ep. 3 it really hooked me in. I think it’s a great and novel story for Star Wars!

While I agree there are toxic haters who hate everything, there is also a massive contingency of toxic deniers who reject everything critical including legitimate issues with the show.

I would also agree, no show is perfect and by far this show isn’t, by toxic I mean more so the Star Wars fans who have a problem with every new development. I have also seen far too many people claiming the problem with the show are things such as the main character being a woman and therefore the show must be woke and terrible. At the end of the day the universe of Star Wars has evolved and whilst I enjoy the show I would say the problems with it more so are down to the format, it would have been better as a film where things like the flashback episode could have been shorter and more integrated. But over all the story is interesting it’s refreshing to see a show that’s not a dragged out continuation of characters that they know are already popular.

People have been bashing the "wokeness" of the show since well before the show even aired its first episode. There are people who genuinely dislike the show, but that fails to account for the kind of negative reaction the show has gotten going back before anybody had seen a single episode. Valid criticism is not hate; that's generally not what people are referring to when talking about the extremely polarized reaction to The Acolyte.
To be fair, many people in this sub respond exactly the same way regardless of if it's the former or latter type.

I have seen that and I have also seen many reasonable criticisms that it's totally fine that you don't agree with. Opinions of taste aren't absolute fact, but many people here seem to think of their own opinion in that way.
Right like it’s okay to have plot issues or pacing issues just normal stuff when discussing a show, but when it starts off with the show is pushing agendas like what agendas because the show is diverse and has a woman poc lead ? Is it hateful to dislike something? Sounds like a dictatorship to me. I have mixed feelings on the show at this present time for a few reasons. One is time. I was originally introduced to Star Wars in my youth now not a youth and special effects have grown as my understanding of plots and their flaws and storytelling and its flaws. The best stories are told imo with an intention and I am not sure presently what the root intention is with the Acolyte. It is definitely leaning in a direction and I don’t think or feel the need to pontificate my views other than it seems rushed for different agendas. So there are those who are upset with fire without oxygen… you can thank the internet and all the wisdom it provides for good or bad. Then there are those canon fodder. Then there are the anti people. I like balance and I am not seeing it in many forms from where I sit but I may discover that I will learn something throughout this process. Like the Russian nesting dolls a lesson within a lesson.
What I do not care for is the least amount of money and effort seeking the greatest return. There is hard work and the is working hard smartly and then there is greed.
Charging less for a new product design because there is much less product and more marketing is making me sick.

Interesting that ep. 3 is what hooked you in when it did the opposite for me. I struggled through 1-2 and then ep. 3 they lost me. It was only when my husband convinced me to keep watching because he heard that ep. 5 was good, that piqued my interest again. Can you tell me what it was about 3 that you liked?
I like the witches vs Jedi and the hint of religious/political/ideal conflict they showed in episode 3, but I would much prefer if episode 1-3 were combined into one hour-long episode and the flashback scene condensed to around 10-15min. I don't need to spend 3 min watching the twins trying to pop that CGI butterfly slug thing when the episode is only 30min long.
But then you would also have missed out on them shoving each other for no reason. Or the power of many chant.
I actually enjoyed the power of many scene even though it was pretty cheesy. I grew up with cheesy films like Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, etc. We used to be fine with and enjoy cheesy things, but it seems like kids these days avoid it at all costs and call it "cringe".
There is an actual cult in my country where people wear purple, do weird dance/scream when they "meditate", and worship a "master". The witch dance reminds me of them so it's a bit of nope for me lol

Not OP, but three sets up the mystery currently driving the show (what happened when they were kids?) and also seemed to imply that the witches employed the assistance of the dark side to create life, which screams Darth Plageius.
I did not expect the show to connect to the films like that if at all, so 3 very interesting to me
I was pretty turned off by the show after episode 2, but wanted to continue giving it another shot. Episode 3 made me looking forward to the rest of the season because it actually did something different than just generic and familiar Star Wars. I appreciate when shows and movies do something different even if it doesn't necessarily pan out perfectly, because I'm so tired of films and shows these days just being so unoriginal.

Too much of the events of this show happen because the plot requires it, episode 5 “night” is the best example of this especially the ending, maes motivations/actions her interactions & switcharoo with osha, Sol becoming incompetent suddenly “she’s gone”.
It’s barely getting saved by mostly great fight scenes.
This show isn’t the worst dog shit ever made, it’s mediocre to okay at times with the budget of revenge of the Sith.
But as a bitter & hurt Star Wars fan it comes off even worse allot of the time.

Ignoring the rage-bait outrage, this show would've done way better if it was released all at once. A lot of the complaints I've heard over the weeks have been "oh why did they do this" "why didn't they do this?" There will always be someone who don't realize they are watching a Mystery.
Now that you mention it: I've really been enjoying the show, but binged Eps 2-5 last night. If I had been stuck with the cliffhanger reveal at the end of ep 4 I would've been pissed too.
They don't have enough of a payoff each week to justify such short episodes. It is frustrating because episode five was some of the best Star Wars ever. And the OSHA/Qimir scenes in episode six were great. But otherwise it has been lackluster at best.
The show was apparently pitched as Rashomon in Space. It has not engaged that conceit sufficiently and we are already 3/4 through the show. If I hadn't been told it was copying Rashomon I would never have guessed, and I still don't see it.
Anyway, the episodes do not give nearly enough action or plot advancement. Something kind of happens at the end of episode 2. Then they cut away to a badly acted and poorly paced third episode, and another episode where literally nothing happens until the final minute. So it was like a three week wait for the goods.

Manny Jacinto is excellent. Really impressed with him as an actor as the only other thing I've seen him is The Good Place.
I definitely got the influence of Eastern cinema, there's a lot of great martial arts, which I'm loving.
Overall I'm really positive on this series.
I'm not as mad about the 3rd episode as others, and the plot point which implies Osha and Mae were born of the force. In ROTS Palpatine says Plagueis could use the force to create life, which I took to mean that Anakin wasn't the ONLY child who had been born of the force.
Usually in a mystery there’s one or two things that the audience doesn’t know and wants to figure out. All of the characters’ motivations and actions being contradictory isn’t a mystery. It’s poor writing
Couldn’t agree more. The issue isn’t with Star Wars and their department, but core higher-ups within Disney mandating episodes a certain way for bigger revenue, mainly the release a week at a time format. Wouldn’t be too bad if episodes were longer, but with some being less than 30min without recaps and credits it feels like an anime series and becomes a bit ridiculous. Not hating on Disney, they’ve done a lot for Star Wars but this is one thing they should fix. Make it two a week, every Tuesday and Friday perhaps.
100% it would've been better released all at once. However, this was may be either written as a movie first or very poorly written from the start, or some weird desicions being made. I get people liking the series, but holy crap, I've seen way too many other shows that are miles better with the pacing. The pacing is effectively ruining this show for a lot of people. There are even moments where it feels like they cut the episode short to reach their eight episode quota or something.
I love the story they're trying to tell, but it's like they're trying to show a power point presentation instead of telling a good story. It's just one plot point, device etc to the next, crammed into each 30 minute episodes.
It's like watching Andor, but with a ton of scenes cut out that expand on the world and story. For example, imagine the scene where Syril is trying to give a motivating speech for the first time and utterly failing being cut out. Instead, it just goes straight to Syril being on Ferrix. And so forth.

I’m sticking through to the end but this has been my least favorite show of all the shows that have come out. It has a real “young adult” vibe to me. Quimir is the least menacing bad guy ever IMO. I liked the witches but I’m super bummed the characters I was most excited for got wiped out immediately. I feel like we’ll get more Kelnakka (sp?) but either way to be waiting to see a wookie Jedi and then they just find him dead, Carrie Ann Moss gone in the first scene was a bummer. I think with the premise “the Acolyte” I was expecting something super dark with cool Sith lore but instead it’s like space Scooby Doo (i know it’s not that bad but that’s what I keep thinking) I’m glad people enjoy the show, I don’t get the people that are raging out because they think it breaks everything and makes Anakin less special. I actually like that they seem to be leading to the witches creating the twins with the dark side or something but overall I’m not digging the vibe or look of this show.

Don’t forget about Yord. The two different scenes with the shirts off were both ridiculous. I don’t understand how Quimir is supposed to be so insanely powerful or maybe it’s to make the point that these Jedi aren’t ready for battle. Either way it’s not working for me but I’m glad others are enjoying it and I will ride it out and see what happens.
The shirt off scene worked better in this series than it did in TLJ in the TLJ it was ridiculous that felt very CW to me.

Yep and that's not inherently a bad thing. This show does seem to intentionally appeal to younger people. As someone older than most viewers probably are, I can recognize that not everything is going to be made for me or my personal taste. That said, while I do find some parts to be less than ideal, I find intrigue in the basic premise and have overall enjoyed watching and discussing the show.
I think the criticisms about the episode lengths, dialogue quality, pacing and some of the acting is valid. The show could've done much better with better longer and better planned episodes
But like ffs people were complaining about how Sol didn't recognize Mae last episode, or how Ki Adi Mundi, a characted who hasn't seen Qimir or heard that there was a sith running around, didn't remember him in the prequels

The mystery show hasn’t given us a single real plot twist and every reveal has been obviously telegraphed to the audience weeks in advance.

I think pacing acting and dialogue are all worse in the parts focused on the twins, compared to Qimir or Sol, whom are the two reasons why I enjoy this show more than its peers (Ahsoka, Boba, and Obi Wan)

my theory is that this was first drafted as a movie. As they turned it into a show and increased the total runtime, they had to shoot additional scenes to tie the story. cause i feel like some scenes are more polished and detailed. like the unknown planet vs jedi council scenes
Also I think the show might have been better if we saw it from Qimir and Sol's perspectives, rather than Osha and Mae's the whole time. Would've added more suspense and "mystery"

It's definitely keeping me entertained with all the rage online. It's overblown. Haters are citing broken Canon, poor scripting and acting. I don't care about canon and I think the story even with tropes is serviceable and acting is decent enough.

Yeah this is also my gripe…the show feels like it was made with 1/4th the reported budget and the effects are (at least to me) still a cut below the most recent movies.
By contrast, a season of The Boys costs ~$11M per episode and the episodes are all around an hour long with good special effects. That’s half the budget for a season vs Acolyte.

Because the serie is far from being perfect and people are allowed to have an opinion about something. I do agree that everyone should express themselves calmly and respectfully tho, but the internet isn’t rainbows and sunshine unfortunately, so the best thing we can do is to ignore those who aren’t able to be mature about a tv show.
In my opinion, the episode 5 was extremely good, Sol is such a good character, most of the actors are doing a good job, the sith (I can’t remember his name, is it Qimir ?) is also a very intriguing character and I love how he interacts with Osha and all the others so far. Overall, I think that this show is better than many before (obi wan, Ashoka, boba fett and all, those were the worst of the worst, I couldn’t even finish Ashoka) and that it doesn’t the hate it gets.
But there are many flaws. My main complaint is about the writing ; a lot of dialogues are awfully written and keep telling us things directly instead of showing us. Like when York goes to Osha in ep1 and they just verbally talk about her past : it feels so forced, so unnatural. And then they keep insisting on Osha’s past, first with her telling it, then with Sol, then with the flashback episode… I’ve honestly seen fan fiction handling character development better, it lacks subtility. It instantly pulled me out.
Also, and this is completely subjective, but I’m getting so fed up of the twins. I would have rather watch a serie about Sol confronting his past as a Jedi master and coming over his regrets to progress - or fail - while facing Qimir… that would have been such a good story, because in here, the twin story quickly becomes boring and don’t really bring interesting themes, it’s a classic self discovery journey mixed with revenge plot, we’ve already seen it with Anakin and Luke and it was done better. The only original thing they could do is make Osha join Qimir when she will learn what Sol is hiding from her while redeeming Mae, but I doubt they’ll go on this road.
The pace is very odd. I think that the fact they release one episode by one isn’t a good thing, because I watched the first 5 episodes in a row and it felt better than just separately. There’s still some scenes that feel useless and boring. Yesterday’s episode and episode 4 were annoying as fuck, and ultimately I think the acolyte should have been a movie. I’m sure that if you delete certain scenes, rearrange some others it would fix a lot of thing and at least avoid the issue of boring filler episode. Not everything, but some.
Ultimately, this is my just my personal view on the show. I am glad if some people find it super good and are having the time of their lives watching it, I’m having fun myself, but I can’t really say that it’s a good show. It’s a cool one with cool fights, but it’s not good. But it’s still important to be critical (when it’s constructive and not full of hate) and to acknowledge issues, we aren’t all haters ; in order to improve and get a better season 2.
It’s just incredibly bottom of the barrel stuff. The mystery and intrigue isn’t earned it’s forced and obvious.
The dialogue and script is absolutely trash as well.

I don’t care about the color or race or sex of the characters. I don’t care if they made this animated or live action. What I care about is this: tell me a good story and make it make sense. Make me be interested in the characters first so I can care what happens to them. Help me understand who they are as people and what makes them tick. Make me understand the characters and their motivation. Give me an understanding of the world at large and why what’s happening on screen is important. Immerse me in your world. I understand logic and motivation and i hope the show I’m watching has their characters make choices and react using those things so I can feel like it all makes sense.
This show has failed on nearly all these parameters. That’s my take.
This is the only show where it literally doesn't do any of that for me since episode 1 I haven't cared about the twins I haven't cared about those other Jedi that seem so fucking pretentious.
Only person that i care about is Sol I was excited to see him. And I wanted to see more of the witches especially the main witch I actually liked that actress.

Sol is such a touching character, I instantly empathized with him. I feel nothing for the twins, I can't even characterize Mae, and Osha is apathetic. They could die and I wouldn't care. I was more interested in the Padawan who was triple-stabbed than in these 2.
I would have loved the series to have focused on Sol. They could have kept pretty much the same story, but instead of focusing on the sisters, we'd have followed the journey of a Jedi Master confronting his past and his mistakes while searching for his surrogate daughter and being threatened by a Sith Lord allied with his vengeful apprentice Mae. Osha would have been a more secondary character, which would have been much better given that she doesn't have enough depth and the actress doesn't really bring any emotion to her. Much of Sol's character arc would remain unchanged: he would still have to confess the truth to Osha and not let his guilt get the better of him.
Imagine a story where Sol is partly responsible for Mae's downfall. Sol certainly feels guilty for failing to save Mae's life, whom he thinks is dead, and then tries to train and protect Osha, but he never really admits to her what happened. Instead of episode 5 ending with the twins reversing places, creating an unnecessary quid pro quo, it would have been better to reveal what Sol was hiding. Upon learning the truth, Osha would have been forced to choose between her mentor and her sister. We could even imagine a version of the series where Osha joins her sister and the two become powerful Sith because of their special relationship and that famous "power of two" that was touched on in ep 3. Obviously, the characters of the twins would need to be reworked, perhaps introducing the notion that Osha feels incomplete since her sister's disappearance (and ditto for Mae) and that the two only reach their full potential together. In this way, we could envisage a continuation of the series where Sol is consumed by guilt, regret and sadness and makes it his mission to find Osha and Mae and stop them before they claim any more victims.

Also I agree if the twins were written that way we would get to see them become stronger than that wanna be Sith we got. It would be insane seeing both of them embrace the dark side! It would keep the tone the show is going for so much untapped potential it's insane

In my opinion it hasn’t even reached bare minimum. Sol is a solid actor doing the best he can with what he’s been given. For me as well, he’s the only character I feel like I have an understanding of or at the very least also feel some connection to - at best.

100%. There’s been no real time to develop any of these characters to make me care about them, which is a shame because I see the potential. Andor had so many great little character moments that made you feel like you were there with them, having a conversation, learning more about who they are. It made the big moments hit harder, there was actual emotional payoff. I haven’t been feeling that with this show. Sol is the only one I really feel anything for and Qimir is interesting, I just wish he’d been ‘revealed’ earlier so we could have more time with him.
Well I agree here, all new characters and half don't make sense. Like I don't believe they would act that way whether it the Jedi or the sith acolyte. They also have bad acting that doesn't help. But man it's just like a poor version of star wars, like a b rate version but good budget.

Mostly bigotry. It's one of the better Star Wars shows of late but it has a lot of non-white and female characters so there's a lot of hate from a very vocal minority grasping at straws.
Also, frankly a lot of hate from people who very, very clearly either didn't watch the show or blatantly weren't paying attention. Stuff like believing Osha was conceived by the force like Anakin or a whole bunch of non-existant plot holes.
There's some legitimate criticisms that could be made, but none amounting to the level of hate.
I also think a bunch of people shouldn't have watched it when they saw it was a mystery show. "They should have revealed the mystery already" isn't even vaguely a valid criticism in a mystery show. It sucks that hate is thrown at a show purely for its genre.

Besides that I think people in a fan community of a particular flavour get allegiance to liking what the community has liked and since TFA there has been a "former" star wars fan community where displaying more cringe at trailers for any upcoming show or movie gets you praise
I've followed quite a few channels and assumed that The Acolyte was gonna be all the weaker parts of Boba Fett, TLJ and Ahsoka rolled into one and then was shocked when I really enjoyed it.
YouTubers completely blow it out of proportion. Like they used some Jedi that apparently shouldn't be alive at that time. Yeah, ok, that might have been a small mistake, but I honestly wouldn't even have noticed that this is the same guy if not for the outrage. Also no non-super-fans know that guy could be 300 years old.
There is some level of fake outrage and clickbait involved for sure. Though for us the show is terrible enough on it's own right. I don't need to watch more videos to realize that.

It's debatable if there was a canon reason in Legends, either - a supplemental CD from TPM and a TTRPG supplement were very, very low on the canonicity back in Legends.
His race is supposed to only get to 50years of age, so of course there is a canon reason why that guy could not have been alive 100 years before the movies-timeline.
Also he directly contradicts himself ("sith are extinct") unless they somehow manage to resolve this in the last 2 episodes.

I think it's genuinely their best effort so far. Literally rewatching Mandalorian as I write this and I cannot think of a criticism for The Acolyte that does not apply to The Mandalorian

For me and many others that dislike it, we don’t need 25 minutes of setup for the next episode that’s only 30 minutes long. We dont need 3 episodes of “we’re gonna explain what happened that we left out the night of the fire” followed by a cut to something else. Stop dragging it out and get on with it.
The flashbacks and forwards were really poorly integrated unlike other SW shows.
The Mae/ osha relationship makes no sense. Mae tries to kill her and the first time she sees osha Mae wants to be bff’s.
There’s no clear definition who the main characters are until episode 5. Like theres a major shift from yord, Jackie, etc, to Jason Mendoza.
Jedi are painted as careless idiots. Like a crazy walks into a bar, starts a fight, and the Jedi just sits back and watches… We also got a wookie Jedi that they killed offscreen with only 5 minutes of screen time… comparing this to the phantom menace and clone wars (cartoon) it just makes no sense given the high republic era and pre clone wars perception we’ve been given throughout SW so far.
It’s harder to watch than a cheesy martial arts movie. Fight scenes are good, but it really leaves a lot to be desired, particularly when it comes to the characters dialogue. Din djarin from the mandalorian isn’t considered the biggest conversationalist, but man does he (and the other actors under the mask) does a great job with communication through body language, something lost here (mainly Mae/ osha). What few lines he does have he really sells well.
Most people claiming how great it is all have similar reviews that are some iteration of “SW fans just hate SW”, “people are racist, phobic, or bigoted”, “it’s Star Wars anything so it’s just so good”.
I also have noticed that many people that like the show say they aren’t familiar with the Star Wars universe
Yeah, it has its weak points but overall it's very good. Problem is loads of people went into this already wanting to hate it and their minds will not be changed.
I am not hating it. Hate is a really strong emotion tbh. I just don't care about the show. Why? Because characters and their actions are not well written in my opinion.
For example I can't justify a jedi master to leave 6-7 Jedis' bodies behind and not immediately reporting there is a sith. Or not even checking all the fallen jedis to see if there is a survivor. Or believing a sith who just killed 6 jedis could die by those moths. Or believing a sith is unarmed so shouldn't be killed. Come on he is not unarmed, you just disarmed it and he is capable of throwing 6-7 jedi by force push. He is a weapon himself.
Well I enjoy the atmosphere and visuals but that's the only positive part for me. Especially Qmir's helmet and fighting style was top. Additional points for Jecki's fight with Qmir.

It’s got bad writing and character development

It just seemed like “baby’s first Dark and Edgy. Super serious stuff for real.” Disney Dark, if that makes sense. I dropped off after the witches’ ritual that felt like I was watching an impromptu flash mob take place in front of the local Hot Topic.
IMO hating it is over the top, but the show is very,very, very weak. It does not seem to know who it is aimed at - younglings or adult Star Wars fans, and is meandering through without grabbing anyone.
It does not help that it is being promoted as inclusive and diverse in a political environment where this is being regarded as totally controversial, and it seems a ton of people carry their politcal agenda into the show.
To me, the show was mostly boring, and too many things annoy me. Here some things from the top of my head:
it's Star Wars, and thus I want to like it, but it feels as if someone had a neat idea (ONE idea!) and was forced to stretch that out over eight episodes.
Hating can feel over the top if you think it's purely because the show is bad.
Most people are probably indifferent to the majority of bad shows out there.
The hate actually comes from the fact that this is a $180m bad show being passed off as Star Wars.
Now they've insulted a beloved franchise and the intelligence of its viewers, so the backlash they've received is very reasonable.

Some outrages come from ruining established lore. Like framing the noble and selfless Jedi as child-abductors (apparently - let's wait how they explain this). I am not that much of a fan that it enrages me, but I can absolutely see how this does not fit established lore AT ALL and how it can anger fans of the franchise.
I am sure there is also SOME bigotry going on here and there.
But those (outraged superfans, bigots) are certainly minorities. A show does not drop to 14% because some minorities hate it! It's just really bad imo. The writing is some of the worst I have ever seen. Characters flip-flloping their motivations on a dime (one time this even happened multiple times in a single episode). Dialogs are weird and clunky. You mostly feel like the characters are talking to YOU, explaining you the plot. It does not feel like natural dialogs by human beeings AT ALL. Cringe-inducing scenes like "the power of maaanyyyyy". I could go on.
If you enjoy it I'd say don't let others ruin it for you. For us personally it is 100% hate-watch. Which might sound bad, but sometimes we just deeply enjoy making fun of bad shows. We actually look forward to every new episode and watch it on the first day, which is rare for us.
Finally you are like the second or third person I've read with a similar response literally everything you listed is what I find wrong with the fucking show Lol some people are are just easily satisfied with mediocre writing character development plot lines etc. It's sad I had high hopes for this show I really wanted them to go in depth with the witches because one of the actresses is my favorite.

And if we close our eyes to imagine some of the dialogue in this show was said by a white actress - say Daisy Ridley even - it would still not be good, because the writing itself for the main actress is often poor: too illogical, too descriptive & too expository.
It's clear that Headland poured most of her attention into Qimir. He's the real star of this show & the Osha/Mae stuff is just the MacGuffin to explore him & his contrasting character, Sol.
Qimir is written much better than everyone else, and his casting is also above everyone else's, with the exception of Sol.
Everyone & everything else is just light & even nonsensical plot machinery to reveal Qimir's story, to meditate on his themes of rejection vs. acceptance; discipline vs. spontaneity; loyalty to a group vs. loyalty only to oneself; connection vs. loneliness.
Headland began from a place of favoring Qimir instead of more objectively representing each character's motivations & position.
If she had been more neutral in setting up the situation & more curious - more open, more creative - in letting each character be worthy in its own right, representing each character's views & motivation fully, the show would really be a rich contemplation of the larger themes.
And that would have been a mind-blowing Andor-level show.

For many different reasons. Mostly - because when it started it was not that good. Episodes 1-2 were meh, episode 3 was just bad but it got better. Still this is worst SW Disney + show but I can honestly say that I'm interested in how it will end.
I don’t hate it. I just can’t get into it. The episodes are short, there’s been no deeper character development so I don’t feel invested in the story. Who are these people? What is the galaxy like in this time? What are their deeper connections to the story? It feels like a vague fairy tale. Im going to wait until all the episodes drop and try to watch it like a film and see if it improves.

I came in with open mind to the show. This show is not 1/10 as much as the haters would like for you to think. The story telling is meh, there are good amount of cringy scenes, and the highlight are the fighting scenes. Let’s ignore that content it’s been beaten to oblivion.
Let’s talk about the time length and constant cliffhangers. Most of these episodes should be combined to make a whole episode. The flow of the show is arguably weakest points in the series.
probably because 5 out of 6 of the live action shows started out fine then rapidly declined in story quality. not a great track record to create a mystery plot show in.

I love this show in spite of Ep 3, not because of it. I think it did its job of clarifying the twins’ background and relationships with the Jedi, but man. Other than that, it was not a fun episode. Could skip entirely.
to people who like the show i ask what are you hoping will happen by the end? like are you rooting for osha and mae to reconcile? or to just switch places in the light and dark? do you want qimir to win? or the jedi? my mark of a good show is that it makes you want things for the characters then either meets or subverts those expectations. i dont care about any if these characters and am only watching to see if green jedi lady is evil. my best bet is the show ends on a cliffhanger for a second season that will never be made

Other people overall enjoy the show but have some gripes with it.
Unfortunately, many people in this sub respond exactly the same way to all three of these types of opinions. They think their opinion is absolute truth and any disagreement to that is offensive and not to be tolerated. The same is obviously true of people who don't tolerate others loving the show. It's rather toxic and sad.
Yeah the first couple of episodes felt sluggish to me too, but the especially the last two have really got me hooked. Suddenly I can't wait to find out what happens to these characters.
IMO and In summary - it’s just not that good.
It does have some good things, I like the diversity of the Jedi’s and we all love a decent light sabre battle, the music is excellent! - but it’s also has numerous problems.
The writing (script) is bad, the acting is hit & miss and the story is very inconsistent.
I really like the concept, twins, one good & one bad - mixed into a ‘whodunit’ type scenario over the slaying of the witches, potential Sith manipulating the situation from the background and drawing ‘good’ characters into the darkness …..but it’s badly done.
There’s little subtlety, character actions are inconsistent and it’s not even particularly clever with its reveals. Episodes are way too short and theres too many dumb moments.
I think the criticism is for $200m, we deserve much better. It has some decent glimpses of greatness, but overall it’s just not that good.
Edit: just saw a good suggestion below, release the whole series at once. I think this would have been a smart move raising viewing figures as many would have binged watch. As it is, I think they lost over 40.% of viewers after episode 3?
the twins' characterization is just plain unlikable. The actor may be fine, but the dialogue is simply trash. This isn't anything newly bad about SW... Ahsoka also suffers from the same trite dull writing.

People don’t hate this show. People just don’t care anymore. I haven’t watched anything Star Wars since the Last Jedi and I don’t feel like I’ve missed anything. If Disney wants to spends hundreds of millions of dollars on a teen drama with flashy swords it’s their money. I just don’t invest in Disney anymore because they don’t make any money. There is a reason their stock price went from $148 to $97 over 5 years and that reason is quality.

However, I do dislike some of the acting, and the writing keeps promising some big reveal and then comes with nothing, again and again. Not to mention certain story beats in general.

Ki-Adi Mundi is a case of pointless fanservice. Maybe if they used his previously described binary brain as a story point, he could have been interesting.
Kelnakka was wasted. Finally a wookiee jedi... and he's dead. There was iconography of the witches in his home. Forgotten.
So far all the shows have looked like Star Wars, but many of them include writing that forgets potentially interesting story points an episode later, and is enslaved to fanservice.

It's not as terrible as it is made out to be. There is some intrigue especially with Qimir and Sol. However, some of the delivery and acting is so bad. Some of the actors are so wooden and it throws me out of it. Also that witch ritual scene was so cringe it actually made me laugh. There's some good to it and is better than Obi Wan for example, however, some of it is lame and some of the decisions made by the characters is so dumb.
I agree. Some cool bits here and there in an otherwise lackluster show. I swear, Star Wars and good written scripts are like oil and water.

Its because of the politics and the absolut shitting on star wars canon. I do not really care about lesbian witch cult, they can have whatever sexual preferences the want. The problem comes from directors forcing their politics in to shows to replace actual stories and good decisions. I do not care about multicultural societies, minority lead cast or whatever, its the point that someone sacrifice good directing to force these things in to a show. Its not just worth the watch, why would I watch a show which main focus is to convince me of political ideas I already understand and know? I could spend that time watching a show focusing on good directing, character building, actual logical and reasonable decision making.
Shows like this is just not my target audience, the targeted audience is a very small niche of people who like star wars but the director feels their political opinions needs a bit or readjusting, so they provide that lesson through a fantasy show. I'm just not part of that niche group. Ill spend my time watching a show that focus 100% on the actual show, instead of 50% on the show and 50% on trying to teach a political agenda.
I think you really need to get over this idea that a black person being in a thing makes it inherently "political". Seeing a black person on a screen isn't "teaching you a lesson".
The opinions of the director are going to influence the works there create, that is inevitable. But if all it takes for you to be put off something is the director considering non-white actors for things you are the problem. Black actors can be great. As can any other race. Casting a black actor doesn't mean they were only cast because they are black. They don't just settle for the first black person they see and rub their hands together glad at how they get to anger the right. They can cast with no race in mind, or they can have a particular race in mind for a character and cast for that specifically. They can even think "wouldn't it be kind to have a lead of (x-race)?" And at no point does any of that diminish capacity to make a good and entertaining piece of media. Because that has literally ALWAYS happened. It's not a new thing, or a "woke" thing. It's just a part of the creative process.
The original trilogy was full of allusions to Lucas's political ideals. Every single piece of Star Wars media has been.
