5 notables from my first day driving a Tesla M3

I finally made the switched to an EV and picked up my beautiful new blue M3. Some notes from my first day using the car that could help any other first timers to the Tesla ecosystem.

  1. I was put off by the delivery experience at the dealer as my car was not ready in time. Had to wait about 25 minutes past my appointment time to finally see my ride. The worst part is that the battery was only 13% charged, which blew my mind when they told me this. My first time rollout out with an EV and they throw my into battery anxiety straight. I have never picked up an ICE car where the fuel wasn't 100% topped up - not a great experience Tesla. I basically had to find a supercharger 5 miles away to ensure I could get home.

  2. The turn signals are definitely taking some time to get used to. The way it works when changing lanes is that once your lane change is completed the camera should pick this up and turn off the turn signal, but this only happens about 95% of the time. I noticed a few times after completing my lane change, the turn signal did not come off and pressing it again does nothing. I basically had to press the turn signal for the opposite direction to turn it off - so annoying!!

  3. After I did my first quick charge at the supercharger, I then had to revisit again later in the evening only to find out that I am receiving a message that I cannot use the supercharger because of an issue with paying for the charge earlier in the day. I checked my credit card and the payment from earlier went through with no issues, I even checked on the tesla app and it was showed as paid. After trying to troubleshoot for 20 minutes and trying to find an answer on google/Reddit, I called tech support and they said it was a glitch. To resolve it I had to go into my profile and reconfirm my mailing address, and that resolved the issue. It also took forever to get through to an agent. Hopefully this is the last glitch that I ever have to deal with.

  4. The regenerative braking is easy and intuitive. I read another recent thread where someone simply hated but I found it super easy.

  5. FSD is no where close to optimal. I only feel comfortable using it when there is very little traffic around. It made several major mistakes where I had to take over control. I would really only feel comfortable using it on highway driving with not much traffic. I will never use it for merging onto or off highways. Also I'm finding it a bit jarring when taking control, I have to steer the wheel forcefully at times and it makes the car swerve a bit when it releases control to me. I'm sure I will figure out a way to do this more smoothly as I get used to it.
