Looking for some information on importing my new teardrop from Ohio into Ontario.
I've done a ton of research, gone through all of the RIV guidelines and have 90% the necessary documents. One of the requirements for importing a trailer is providing the title to customs at the USA/Canada border.
My question is, does the title have to be in my name at the time of import or can I just present the original title? I've been told it could take up to 6 weeks for the title change to take place, and I'd rather not wait that long to pickup my new trailer.
Any information would be super helpful.
When I brought mine from Oregon into BC I do not recall them asking for a title.
doesn't mean they didn't, I'm just not remembering it. They did ask me for copies of how I paid for it, bank statements, drafts purchased, etc.
I had a "binder" of insurance on it that got me home. Be aware that they will collect the GST at your border crossing, when I licensed it in BC they collected provincial sales taxes. The RIV inspection was done in minutes at Canadian Tire.
(if your province doesn't require an eyes on the VIN inspection wherever it is you license your vehicles I'd tale a week off, load your vehicle up with camping gear, drive down with plates, transfer all that into the Teardrop, find some dirty, dusty roads to drive down, get some superficial wear on the trailer and drive home.
Purpose of your visit? Recreational. Welcome to the USA
A few days later:
Purpose of your visit? recreational. Anything to declare? No. Welcome home.)
