Hahaha how about the Fazolis that was promised?
We need more meh in this town
Fazolis is coming. They have signage in front of Academy Sports.
How long has it been coming?
How long has it been coming?
How long has it been coming?
If it’s anything next to the sad East Coast equivalent of Del Taco then it will be less than mediocre I can absolutely assure you. Tallahassee always seems to hire the most lackluster employees to make decent franchises absolute garbage. Might as well get it over with. I don’t the West Coast but their fast food franchises absolutely crush this bullshit out here by decades. Expect Chic Fil A. West Coast can’t do that shit right what so ever.
"It has a late-night special menu, which will be great since we don't have anything open late," he said, noting that a lot of Tallahassee establishments close around midnight.
Cookout is also open late. If that ever happens.
God heard us asking about getting a Cookout and said, “Here! Have FIVE Jack in the Boxes instead, heathens!”
We get what we deserve I guess.
As much happening as Fazolis ever being built lol
As if we will ever get cookout after 4 years of promises
the last 3 times I tried to eat at whataburger something has gone hilariously wrong, from them giving us the wrong order (twice during the same trip) to saying it would take 30+ minutes to make the food.
If you had trouble with Whataburger, you’re really going to have a bad time with Jack In the Box.
Is this a threat? Five seems excessive.
Don’t make them build two locations directly across the street from each other!!
They're gonna put all five on the same block of Tennessee St!
Sorry all those spaces are reserved for chicken fingers!
Who they think they are? Chick Fil A?
That really does seem like a threat.
can we swap them for shake shacks and in-n-outs?
A shake shake would be nice.
Over priced and overrated.
Yes they are but my friend likes them so it opens up lunch options if one opens.
Who did the market research on this one?! I suspect they will get 2-3 in and realize the demand isn’t there before nixing the remainder.
Seems like the trend. We have managed to fool everyone's market researchers, except maybe Starbucks and Chick-fil-A.
We’ve got to be one of the only places in the country to have a chick-fil-a across the street from a chick-fil-a and a Starbucks in the lobby of a Starbucks.
What’s this Starbucks within a Starbucks situation?
It’s a joke in the coffee world regarding the sheer number and locations of Starbucks. Much like the CFA across from a CFA thing it’s only a matter of time before Starbucks opens a store within a store. We do have the target Starbucks with a Starbucks out front in the old CFA on the parkway though.
We’re literally the only city I’ve ever heard of that managed to close down a McDonald’s that was right off a major interstate exit. 🤷🏻♀️
Ya never know. They could be trying to make a move on McDonalds and other fast food chains and this is the opportunity with high prices and low quality. If they are able to keep their prices below the competition and offer a better product we could see a change in the overall fast food landscape.
Cool, I think they have pretty good food and fairly reasonably priced at compared to other fast food places. I do really enjoy them for late nights too. Since covid there's only a handful of places open after a late night out
Five is crazy though. I expect 2-3 will close after a year
I don't think I've eaten at a Jack in the Box since the mid-80s. I don't remember them being particularly good, even by the standards of the time.
They are not good, but you know what you are getting. They also pair well with depression and/or drunk eating.
Love some fast food with my depression!!
The fries are good.
we’re about to get 5 Jack in the Boxes meanwhile the Cook Out we’ve been promised for four years hasn’t even broken ground yet 🥲
Anxiously awaiting Cook Out!!
Don't hold your breath! They probably took a look at the market, wised up, and changed their minds.
2 Cook Outs, 1 on Pensacola and 1 on Tennessee St. Permits are being pulled.
When I moved back to Tallahassee there was a newish chow time coming soon sign near where I lived. 5ish years later it finally arrived. It could still happen!
They are still coming. Jim and milts and the old cap city bank off Tennessee are shopping contractor bids.
Starts July 20th for 20 weeks five or take.
It’s been 2 years since tally won the Twitter contest for cookout and there are permits pulled. I think the issue is that they are building an entirely new store, whereas the ones in Tampa will be using old Boston market buildings
Give me cookout or give me death
4 years? Cookout didn't announce any plans to expand until mid-2022. The Twitter poll that (supposedly) led to the expansion plans was at the end of April 2022: https://www.wtxl.com/news/local-news/tallahassee-makes-final-four-list-of-potential-cook-out-locations
If Cookout really hadn't started planning expansion into the area until then, I am not surprised it's taken a while to get going - after all the Hardee's on North Monroe by Lake Ella was supposed to be one of their locations and then everything went silent pretty fast before rumors and plans started coming up on other locations such as the Capital City Bank on High & Tennessee or the Jim & Milt's site. It seems like they truly had no locations planned.
Planning, design, demolishing current structures or waiting on ongoing construction on site to finish, plus construction itself can take a while. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't open until late 2025. It's not a quick process even if you know where you're going.
Groan
I didn't know they were that popular.
They aren't even that popular in California, where they're from.
Weird, I wonder why they chose Tallahasse then.
I wouldn't say that a chain with over 2000 locations is really unpopular.
I'm from California. I grew up with it through the 80s and 90s. Don't confuse proliferation and ubiquitousness with popularity. It's most peoples' #5 choice at highest for fast food in California. Ask most people and they'd choose In N' Out, Del Taco, Carl's Jr., Taco Bello, El Pollo Loco, FatBurger, McDonald's, and now Jollibee over Jack in the Box. Jack in the Box is late night stoner food and people choose it because it's there and open, for the most part, and not because it's good or they particularly like it.
Can confirm after spending a recent month in California. All the Jack in the Boxes I saw were empty most of the time. They seem like as Whiskeyriver says for late night munchie runs much like Krystal or White Castle.
Also don't forget the E. Coli outbreak from the 90's:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992–1993_Jack_in_the_Box_E._coli_outbreak
Careful, Paxoro the Argumentative, First of His Name, will come and downvote you for that!
Yup, and he’s a mod. Loves to start arguments.
We need a Jollibee and El Pollo Loco!!
Bleh.
“In a news release, the California-based company said it was expanding in Florida, with Orlando and Tallahassee on the list. Jack in the Box is already in Jacksonville and Polk County.”
Five, wow.
Booooooo we want cookout
I wouldn't mind one in Bradfordville. It would at least give a 24 hr drive thru option. Their breakfast sandwiches aren't half bad.
I just hope it’s by lake Talquin. Ain’t shit over here lol.
Jack in the Box after kayaking/hiking would be awesome
Hey now we have tacos!
We do? Where?
Okay I lied but it’s just down Blountstown Hwy towards town— a short drive if you will. Taqueria El Calentanos
Five?!? Who in the world is demanding this little town needs 5 more jack in the boxes
Can’t we get an In-and-Out burger, who do we need to talk to about that? Maybe substitute for two of the Jack in the Boxes.
In-N-Out will only expand to areas where they can get fresh ground beef to from their distribution centers. So you'll have to convince them to put a distribution center within like a half day's drive for a semi in order to get a location. The main reason they're still 99% out west is because of that requirement.
They would be one of the few fast food options that I would actually welcome.
Someone go chat up the Mormon Church and see if we can tap into their cattle supply here in Florida. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a new corporate customer.
Yuck. Just what we need. As a native Californian, I can assure you all...we don't want it. But Tallahassee does love its chains and junk food rather than local places, especially healthy local places, so it will probably be popular.
I’m honestly shocked that a place like Sweet Pea hung on long enough to actually make it but I’m sure glad they did. Who knew a vegan place would be like my favorite food in town. Everyone’s sleeping on Freshroots as well. Talk about an obscure little gem.
Both places are great!
In case I wasn't clear-enough: their food stinks!
Why?
Kinda looking forward to this, only had them once but I remember ring a fan of the seasonings on the burger patty
I'm not excited. I tried Cookout for the first time during a road trip last year though. That...THAT I'm excited about.
I got bubble guts reading that
Nasty. Having lived out west for a while, I got the impression that no one really LIKES them, apart from a very small following for their tacos. They just go there because… it’s there, and it’s familiar. A known quantity. Middle of the road and unthreatening. Possibly they have some weird nostalgia for it because their grandpa took them there as a kid? Without no built-in familiarity here, I have a very hard time imagining massive amounts of people suddenly deciding that they want to go to Jack. The only way I can conceive of this working out well for them is if they build them in extremely strange locations where there’s no other fast food nearby.
How can this be possible - Jack in the Box doesn't sell chicken fingers, mattresses, or car washes?
Sheesh
This makes me happier than it should as a Tallahassee transplant from Texas.
One goes in front of Chiles I bet
Everyone saying whataburger are fools their quality has gone down it's shit nowadays. Might as well give this one chance.
The mascot is creepy AF. Does anyone else remember those commercials? If not, someone uploaded a bunch of them on YouTube. Their food has been terrible for decades. It was considered one of the worst fast food places where I grew up in the north, and that is saying something because my town was predominantly working class where everyone worshipped White Castle.
/r/titlegore material for sure
Growing up in Dallas we ate a lot of Jack in the Crack. Looking forward to the return of tiny tacos to my life.
I’m just waiting for a Cheesecake Factory
In a city full of food chains and fast food is this really good news?
When I said Tallahassee was a culinary outpost of Akron, Ohio, I realize that was a disservice to Akron. The food in this town plain sucks.
Thank god. I was just thinking that it’s far too hard to find mediocre fast food here.
