Just finished the game finally and man that was so good. My first Zelda game was Ocarina and I was 8 or 9 when I played that. I remember that final fight so fondly there and I can tell this one is going to stick with me too.
The music alone just hits so hard and hearing those tunes we've heard for decades now interwoven throughout was so great.
I really don't understand how the final phase of that last fight ran on my day one switch. Just blew me away.
Yeah I don't know where they go from here. And yes. BotW let me down with that final boss (and all the bosses to be honest).
Nintendo cares more about quality than most game companies do. That's why it runs so great.
I hope it stays that way but Miyamoto and others are getting older.
Or maybe it's a Japanese thing where they actually still care about how they look to consumers and investors and because they want the properties to be successful ten, twenty, and fifty or more years from now.
They seem to be one of the few companies left that can think long term and not just about the next quarter. They have literally billions of dollars in their "war chest" and Japan has less legal control by the share holders of a company. So they can spend 6 years between BotW and TotK and "stay the course". I don't think most game companies and defiantly not in the US can do that without huge team changes and direction changes.
I agree. Good point. I definitely wasn't holding my breath for major positive changes anyway. I've hit a point personally where if games aren't Nintendo games I wait a long time to get them. They are rarely ever so called AAA games too. RDR2 was the last AAA in recent memory I picked up.
I don't expect things to be to same forever or live in the past. But the changes I've seen always benefit share holders and rarely consumers.
I really am anticipating a day when I stop buying new games all together. The writing is on the wall for the industry.
I am betting you'll play on any device but pay a monthly subscription to get access to buy games for full price digital only and then also have to pay for individual parts to the game. Then you'll have to watch ads within the game, too.
It won't happen overnight. It'll be a slow progression like all the other bad stuff has been. Boiling the frog so to speak.
It’s definitely one of my favorite ending sequences in any game I’ve ever played. I’ve never genuinely sobbed while playing a game like I did with this.

I really didn't get much sadness from the story but I also played it in a very disjointed manner over the last year.
I got very invested in what happened to Zelda during my playthrough because I found the Master Sword memory way early and things just fell into place for me to obtain the Master Sword immediately after, after which I just let taxi me around Hyrule to find the rest of the memories, so I felt a strong connection to that for the rest of my playthrough, carrying the knowledge of what happened to her the entire time.
Seeing after fighting a huge cinematic battle atop the Light Dragon really hit me right in the feelings. However, I normally never cry while watching TV or playing games, but the fact that I got to and the music swelling during that sequence and hitting me with Zelda's Lullaby into the main theme just broke me down. It was like feeling the weight of everything she had been through being all concentrated into that single moment.
Yeah catching her at the end with that music was freaking awesome with that music. And I believe there was a bit of a "full circle" thing there because I believe that is where you first jump off the sky islands in the beginning.

Wait. You're saying that you beat "Ocarina of time"?!? My DAD couldn't beat that final fight and I'd always get stuck at the temples! And you beat it!?!?!?
This feels like a shit post lol.
But yes. Although I had to get help from a friend on the water temple. Additionally, games lasted longer back then without Internet lol. I may have started playing it at that age but I probably was 10-12 when I beat it.
Congrats! I loved it also. 100 times better than the final BOTW fight and probably my favorite Zelda final boss overall. Will be hard to top in the next big Zelda game.
