Will there be augments/cyber ware/visible cybernetic implants in Starfield? I apologize if this has been asked already.
SpeculationAs far as I know there is no real confirmation or anything that suggest it, I'm not saying it won't be just that we don't know
The fandom is so dry of news is dryer than Death Valley and the Mojave Desert combined
food! starts crawling away water! atmosphere!
Spongebob
We do know that patchy the Crimson Fleet pirate does not have a cybernetic eye replacement, unless it is one that can "see" through duct tape.
he does not suck eggs
Patrolling the Mojave. . .
The linked picture suggests it. Literally says that they're a thing in lore. Whether the player gets access or not we can't say for sure.
I'll lean a bit out the window and say that we might be getting augments in the form of chips or so to speak buyable skills that we may even be able to switch out.
Take for example the starting skill to heal 10% more with med packs. Maybe this can be upgraded or replace with a higher tier healing skill.
But I could be completely wrong and those are just some skills of the standard skill tree that we have already unlocked with this starting selection. Hence the name starting skill? But only time will tell.
Sort of the equivalent of skill increasing books in elder scrolls?
this screenshot is all we know. certainly sounds like it from the text there
Could just be flavor text for the three listed starting skills too. That's how Rimworld does it. Characters in there aren't actually novelists, or VR designers, or con artists, but those backstories are associated with better or worse starting skills.
could well be. it's also possible they are in the game, but it's just a stat boost and not something that really changes gameplay
Augments, probably. Visible, probably not.
it's OK :) we are killing time anyway ... Well, what we know is basically less than nothing, only that text.
So speculation TIME! The fallout franchise actually has a long history of cybernetic of all kinds, you know 10% to this or that, even more, hardcore stafs like subdermal armor and implants that prolonged life.
But that's it, nothing visual, just RPG factor and player imagination. Even Kellog, who was a cyborg looked just like a normal average dude.
There was either a scene in the gameplay trailer, or a concept art that had a guy with a robot arm. Obviously the latter doesn’t mean too much, but I think it’s possible.
Edit: it was concept art. Posted here
Not that I rule out the possibility of visible augmentations, but on that particular picture, the "cybernetic" arm may be an optical illusion. It is perhaps easier to see on this brightened version of the image.
I don’t lean one way or the other. Even if it is a cyborg arm, that still doesn’t mean that we get cyborg limbs. Remember proctor teagan in FO4? That was a very unique case of “cyborg” limbs
If they're in there, I'd expect something closer to the fairly simple NV system, than say Cyberpunk.
Nobody spotted the phrase 'Neuroamps' mentioned in the traits window? This implies that some character builds (maybe the Cyber Runner) will have a wearable device that will 'amp up' their psychic attacks?
Anyone who has played System Shock 2 will know what I mean.
Neuroamps could be something like fallout drugs though... although creating cyber runners and cyberwizards would be amazing
Will there be augments/cyber ware
It's possible, and I'd say even likely that this is the case, just from the background bits of info we already know about the world of the game.
visible cybernetic implants
This part is least likely, based on how cybernetics have been handled before in those games. It's usually a slight stat boost or new ability but not something visible. However this is an upgraded engine in a new generation of gaming, and they've taken the time of this delay to add content, so all bets are kind of off for what to expect.
The zombies in Oblivion had modular body parts. They have the tech to make modular bodies on characters, the question is whether or not they will take the time to model it.
There’s cybernetics in Fallout, so I’d guess they implement them in Starfield too. Can’t speak on if any of them will be visual though.
So far all the skills and perks look painfully bland. 10% more effect here and there. I’ve yet to see anything that seems creative or changes functionality.
God I hope so. One of my favourite design choice is mercenary/bounty hunter with a robotic arm/forearm/leg from the war days
I want to say yes, I really do.
It seems like it would be a big undertaking to have the player model reflect all that only to cover it with clothes.
I believe that would go in a different tree sorta like Skyrim no?
That'd be awesome.
I hope the employee numbers that have been shown are either unique or each it tied to the starting build(i.e. each combo of starting perks having its own ID)
Kinda like seed numbers in Stranded Deep? If so, yeah that would be pretty cool.
Do you want Cybermen/Borg? Because this is how you get Cybermen/Borg. /s
If not, you can bet that there will be mods for it
Only if your a veteran of the colony war duh
I'd love it to be so
In vanilla? No idea.
In mods? Yes.
It’s possible, however it think most of not all cybernetics the player can get will be like the ones from New Vegas: invisible, but give stat buffs.
well if not the modder will make it so
It's a waiting game.
Is it this one by "Liquor"? If I recall correctly, it was debunked later, but in any case the bits of information that were right could already be found by then from other sources with enough research. Another rumor I found so far that mentions augmentations is a very old 4chan post from 2018, however, that also made claims that I am quite confident are fake, so I would not put much stock in it.
I know about those rumors, the one from 2018 is what I was referring to just above. But, like I already stated, it is probably fake. There is also no evidence I know of that the posts from different years were made by the same person, putting aside that they do contain incorrect information (especially the ones from 2018 and 2019).
Perhaps, but perhaps not.
Hmm yes. Shallow and pedantic.
Answer hazy, ask again later.
How would we know? We aren't the devs, we know as little as everyone else does.
Although I hope they aren't visible. Visible augmentations make it harder to work around while modding.
I doubt it. Might see a character or 2 with a futuristic prosthetic. But I don't think that's the vibe they're going for.
I hope not
I don’t know
Not trying to be rude but why/how would anyone know that?
Hope not dont want it anything like cyberpunk
Whats wrong with cyberpunk lmao
cyberpunk didn't invent cybernetics lmao
I thought since you’re always in a suit, you won’t see any; well, beside your head
I really hope so, but I doubt it. Bethesda didn't even put visible hostered weapons on F4, let alone something like this.
Let me be a robot Bethesdaaaaa
Probably not
Cool if true
No idea, but my guess is any 'cybernetics' won't be visible on your character. Would love to be wrong, though.
