I am backing this Haslab and will be buying two of them to keep a set of figures carded, but was wondering if it's worth getting one deluxe version or just two regular ones. Seems to just be 3 more booths and some more accessories so I'm not decided yet. Do you know if the additional booths have a difference?
I guess you're right, if I'm going to get something that will never be produced again, I might as well get the deluxe version since it will add more value to a unique item.
To me, the extra alcoves are worth $30 a piece at least. I doubt I'll ever display it in the full configuration.
Same here, I don't have anywhere to display it completely, I'm glad it's modular.
Depends how you plan to display it.
On a shelf: get basic
On a coffee table so you look down on it: Deluxe.
I backed basic.
The great thing is deluxe could just be spread across more shelves! And you could use them as a backdrop for a lot of figures, not just cantina figures - like Mandalorian figures.
Same here; gonna make 2-3 displays
Some differences. They showed them on the live stream. The extras make it more complete.
Definitely worth it. $400 for 2/3 of the Cantina and $100 for the last third is definitely worth it to me. And yes there are a few unique details, most importantly the wall decals (Crocodile head and cat skull).
Absolutely not, If you get the extension you won’t even be able to fully display it all, spend extra on bar patrons
Is the regular one worth $400? Hahaha.
(No.)
I’d say buy them and if you feel you don’t need them then they are an easy sell.
The booth that Han and Chewie used was on the deluxe side, right? Either way, I think it would be cool to extend the length of wall on one side which would give room for large tables or a dance floor. Or you could take the deluxe section, paint it and make it a different location.
I doubt the value will go down, so worst case scenario, you'll be able to sell it for over $100.
Yes. I would encourage everyone to really think about it and tell them to get the deluxe. The alcoves were done very well. You may want an extra one down the road just to setup another type of display with something else separately. Plus you get more than just 3 additional alcoves, you get the second archway piece, 7 more round tables, 4 more benches, 2 more chairs, 5 more short stools and a bunch more cups. You never know if you may want to use those extra accessories in something else. Oh and the two different wall decors exclusive to the deluxe. I think that crocodile head was pretty cool looking.
The whole thing is a ripoff, so no LOL
If you’re backing two regardless, and only want to keep the figures carded, get the standard set. Two standard sets give you one deluxe set plus some extras (like the bar, entry way, and facade) that you should be able to sell off to cut down on the cost once it ships.
The wall piece by the bar can't be flipped around
Ahhh…disregard, I see what you mean, that end piece (thought you meant the arch)…still tho, you can close off the other side with the booths.
If you’re buying 1, the deluxe makes sense, but as OP said he’s in for two, I’d still recommend the base version
Sell off? This is struggling to reach the backing goal because no one really wants to pay that much. Not gonna be much aftermarket for this one.
Barge chugged across finish line just barely and they are selling for $2,000 now so ehhhh it'll sell fine but it is a long term investment. New collectors arrive every day.
Selling or hopefully being listed for 2k? Two very different things.
Selling. One just sold on June 26th for $2,200.
They are usually LISTED between $2,500-$3,000
I've personally been trying to find a loose but complete (minus figures) one for $1,000 for YEARS. No such luck yet! Hopefully one day.
At the rate people have been backing it in the last couple days, i think you'll be demonstrably proven wrong very soon.
I don't understand the hate, some people just seem to want this to fail, but why? If you don't want it or can't afford it, that's fine, don't back it. But if you're a TVC collector and this sells, even if you didn't get it, it would mean more releases for everyone.
It just seems like people being smug for the sake of it, because it isn't what they want and they want to feel justified in not getting it
I'm actually salty because, over the years, I've spent more than the cost of this cantina on patrons, booths, mail away wuhers, cinema scenes, more sets with stools featuring duplicates of figures I already had.... Just to have the tonnikas hidden behind another $400 US for more of the same stuff I've already purchased repeatedly.
For those of us who've supported the line since its reintroduction in 1995 this is one of two things - a dream come true or a kick in the balls. For me it's the latter.
How many times has Wuher pegwarmed? He couldn’t sell as a fan club exclusive, sat around on close out at TRU, and then the reissue with the bar piece was clearances out as well. Despite being a character fans “demanded”.
Then look at what happened with Yarna, and even Jocasta Nu, who was a niche exclusive. The former clogged pegs for an uncomfortable amount of time and the latter hung around for quite a bit longer than Brian probably expected.
Now time jump from the late 2000s to today, and account for the general change in the marketplace as well as management of the line in general.
They’re not locking the Tonnika Sisters behind a $400 paywall my friend, they’re using the cantina as the only feasible way they can justify making them and recouping their costs. The fact that they’re included in the base offering and not locked behind a tier is pretty evident that they’re doing all they can to get them into as many hands as possible.
I started collecting in '96, maybe that doesn't get me OG street cred. People have been convinced for a long time that the Tonnikas would never be made, and there honestly aren't enough of us around to justify them inevitably peg warming. The bulk of the fanbase grew up with the prequels and cartoons, and they've made it clear they're happy with different colored stormtroopers over OT stuff.
All that said, i am sympathetic to your plight, but i also understand Hasbro wanting this to be the centerpiece for any figures related to the Cantina, and i wouldn't really expect them to change those plans out of respect for people who built their own playset at some point in the last 30 years.
LOL…sure…
The Tantive IV isn’t as modular as it should be, the flooring only allows for a few specific configurations.
I’m only getting one Cantina and despite not already having any of the patrons I’m planning on going for the deluxe. It’s one of those things where paying for it now is a lot easier than trying to source one on the aftermarket later. If I don’t end up needing or wanting it, I’ll sell it.
The additional booths have exclusive wall decorations and you’ll get more cups etc.
