It just seems such random thing to keep out of characters, locations and robots.
So why out of everything from the Archie comics the Chilli Dog was the thing SEGA decided to keep?
QuestionIt's not? Earliest instance of the chili dogs was in AOSTH, and got canonized as far back as far back as black knight.
Sonic definitely ate chili dogs in Sonic Unleashed, which was a year earlier than Black Knight.
Ah didn't know that, I just remember the chilli dogs in black knight's intro
Bringing in characters, locations, or robots could be cool. But it would require a lot of changes to the worldbuilding and backstories to re-establish the Acorn Kingdom and their royal family and Sonic/Tails/Eggman's ties with it; rewrite and reintroduce the Freedom Fighters and the robots, and/or explain why we've never seen them in the games; make a reason why Sonic didn't stay in Knothole in the earlier games, and why Eggman built other bases besides Robotropolis; possibly shift the tone to reflect the guerilla war they're waging; and dedicate at least a few games to the Freedom Fighters' overall struggle for the throne if they're taking it seriously.
All things that are possible, but they need a major restructuring with the writing plans and canon, needs the devs to build/model a lot of characters/stages, and also needs time for them to explain it to the audience. Giving Sonic a favorite food he can munch on from time to time is a lot easier to write into their existing plans, or just give a nod to from time to time. And it needs no introduction except "it's a hot dog with chili on it".
The characters, locations, and robots from Archie are very different from what sonic team would come up with themselves. And thus not really compatible. Besides Archie was it’s own canon, so there’s no need to take elements from it, and insert it into the main franchise.
The chili dog thing wasn’t from Archie. As the other commenter pointed out. But for everything else, with exceptions, Sega doesn’t exactly like many things from the American branch.
Sega America and Sega Japan were practically rivals and had terrible communications with each other back in the day.
- They don’t want Sally because they didn’t make her and Amy already fills the roles of being Sonic’s love interest and the main female. Blaze is already a Princess and Elise already served as a temporary love interest. So what would Sally do?
- Cream already fills the role of being The best friend to the main female. She is also Tails’s female counterpart. Sega in general, has a thing about not having too much of an animal. So Bunnie is out.
- Tails is the tech guy. So what would Rotor Do?
- Why canonize the relaTives in Archie but not in any other media?
- Knuckles’s thing is literally that he’s the last of his kind.
- They already have plenty of characters that they don’t even know what to do with. as for the locations, There are already plenty of places.
Because it wasn't from Archie?
"Sonic's love for chili dogs first appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog story bible , written by the Reeds and Len Janson and dated February-March 1992. In it, Sonic’s Uncle Chuck made chili dogs and Sonic was the enthusiastic delivery boy."
