I love peking duck. The kind with the pancakes. I'm turning 40 this summer and want to plan a peking duck dinner—should I be doing Baron's? There's a place in Kent too? What's the best? Do you have strong perspective on this? Thank you!
Imperial Garden is disgusting.
Baron’s. Weekday lunch it is $58 which is $30 off and 25% off everything else.
I also like Vivienne’s Bistro on Mercer Island, but it’s not exactly Peking style.
Dear lord that looks good...
Website says it's all day on Monday's now. Place looks fire.
I second Baron’s. Absolutely delicious!!
My go to for Peking Duck is Harbor City in the International District and I always ask for pancakes rather than buns.
Baron’s in Bellevue, for sure
Roast duck and Peking duck are cooked differently and not the same.
Not the same thing as Peking duck though!
TNT Seafood Restaurant in Lynnwood
Baron's or Vivienne's Bistro.
Baron’s. Better yet, if you’re up for a drive, Quan Ju De in Vancouver.
Uptown China in LQA/Uptown. Must Order in advance.
I love uptown china and have had their duck roll. I've never seen peking duck on their menu.
Ton Kiang BBQ in the ID
I think BBQ places like this are usually Cantonese style roast duck, not Peking style with the pancakes and whatnot.
this is what peking duck suppose to be, it always comes in courses
course 1. crispy skin with wrap or steam bun
course 2. duck meat in a "mushu pork" configuration. on bed of "fish chip"(same material) noodles
course 3. roast duck meat on bone.
if they didn't do any of this...they're ripping you off. What happened to the meat? or the meat on bone? better yet where's the neck bone?
I found this out in Hong Kong, and also in Causeway Resto in Manila. I haven't found this in the Seattle area.
I've had this before and actually I think you're getting screwed over because I've been to restaurants where they make FIVE courses.
But ultimately I don't care about the stirfry duck or the soup even though it IS a delicious soup. All I care about is the duck meat and crispy skin with those thin thin pancakes.
what the hell are you talking about lol Peking duck is a Beijing dish. You’re correct it’s served in three stages but the stages are typically 1. crispy skin with sweet bean sauce dip 2. carved meat wrapped in thin pancakes with cucumbers/scallions and more sweet bean sauce 3. soup made with the duck carcass
edit: all this being said, I don’t care whether the Peking duck you had or OP is searching for is “authentic” or not, I just can’t stand to see your pompous comment
Ok peasant.
Talk to me again when you've had real Peking duck in Beijing, like I have many times
No thank you. I’ve seen the videos. Interesting how they rinse vegetables. In Beijing. Also seen what they feed the ducks. In Beijing
Hilarious to hear this from someone praising the food in Hong Kong and the Philippines. Thanks for the genuine laugh
The place in Kent (Imperial Garden) was usually my go-to but recent reviews seem to suggest that there is a new owner and it’s not the same as it once was, so ymmv. I haven’t been there in a little while so I can’t say for sure. But yeah, outside of that, Baron’s quality is pretty good, it’s just pretty pricey. We didn’t get that many pancakes and then they charged extra for more. It was good though. I think on Monday’s they have a special deal so price is slightly better at least.
