So I've been playing a lot recently, and I play mostly hourglass, and for the past week I met so many cheaters. And no, they don't even try to hide that they're cheating, most of them teleport to our ship while we're still in the water and kill us. They are invisible, they're teleporting, using aimbot etc. I didn't meet that many cheaters since EAC was added to this game. Am I just lucky?
EDIT: just met another cheaters who admitted themselves that they're cheating.
My first thought when I read the title was "hmmm I didn't know they left"
The first day that anti cheat was added I was watching Nessiedoes and Sponge streaming Hourglass battles and every other fight they were fighting cheaters
EAC just got rid of the kids and folks who weren't spending money on those abilities. Back then, pretty much every trashy ship I was coming across was pointing cannons almost vertical and I was having to dodge shots that were falling out of the clouds. Players who clearly hadn't even played the game for more than an hour were hitting every shot, despite not knowing how to raise their own anchor or how to put out a fire.
Those are largely gone and the ones we are seeing are the wallet warriors, supported by a pseudo business that sells subscriptions and support for this kind of thing. Our only real weapon against these is boredom...as in its a cosmetic progression game and players are spread out. There really is only so much they can do and I doubt that many would keep paying for that sort of experience.
The problem is that banning cheaters doesn’t actually do anything. It’s better than it used to be but bans are still trivial to evade. They lose their account each time but they don’t care.
A controversial Australian streamer has been ban evading for years.
The library sharing system and gamepass makes it trivial to make a new account. The system itself if flawed, and I'm not sure how they can fix it.

I was doing hourglass who continuously got mast hits from a distance. No chain shots. Just constant cannon balls on mast.
Then he'd fire himself over from a distance, and then ladder warp onto my ship.
He'd proceed to fire his blunder repeatedly without reloading, and would gloat every time I did manage to kill him, only for the whole thing to repeat.
And again, plane sloop. No decor. No title. No fashion accessories.

EAC has been solved for years. What occurred is when EAC was initially added, they effectively did a google search for the most common cheat providers, downloaded a copy, and added the tool hash to the checklist.
EAC will never detect homemade, or private community cheats. Even at the laziest, you can recompile CheatEngine from source to get a different hash and it'll slip right by.
What's happened is one of the major private for-profit communities hit a confidence point that Rare isn't actually chasing them and widened distribution.

While EAC is t great, it’s not just looking for known malicious hashes. It does run at kernel level and it does stop hooks or injections. So even if you were to recompile cheat engine or any injector…. It still wouldn’t work. There are fairly simple work around,sure. That way isn’t one of them though

They definitely enforce bans in game and on social medias on one australian streamer especially recently
In 2024, there is no in-game report option. In 2024. As someone who has experience in programming and I.T., this means one of two things:
They do not have the necessary skills on staff to implement it.
They don't care
Option 2 is FAR more likely. If they can give the Emporium nearly 100% uptime, despite all of the bugs in the game, their priorities are clear. Not to mention, if you did just so happen to get banned, it takes 5 minutes to create an alt account. With Rare throwing firm support behind "certain streamers" who are clearly using a specific cheat engine, they are endorsing the issue.
This coming from someone who likes the game, mind you. There's aspects I HATE, but I like the core game. But....I will NEVER purchase another Rare game on any platform.

Cheaters are still here and have new cheats, from what I have seen. In the last month, I encountered 3 pirates (different crews) that looked exactly like my pirate when they were boarding me. They had the same hair, scars and tattoos but no clothes (only underwear). But when I boarded them, there wasn't even a female pirate on their ship.
If i play on PS5 with crossplay off, does hourglass que me up with PC players aswell? Im new and one guy kept getting on board seemingly out of nowhere.
Yes it prioritizes ps5 but also can put you in crossplay while turned off.

From my understanding its never really turned off it's a preference setting and it's like that so you have the highest chance of being put in controller only servers but if there isn't enough space/enough console players online it will override that setting and put you in a game with pc as well (I may be wrong though so take this with a grain of salt)

Luckily i've only met one cheater since EAC was introduced. They used my empty cannons to board my boat, make sure your cannons are loaded at all times.
They can still load into full cannons, but they have to unload them first. You can hear them unloading and loading and can shoot them out if you notice it.
Some of the cheats are completely fucked too. In hour glass the other day, I had a guy on my ship already as we were coming out of the water, and he wasn't taking damage, all standard stuff for cheats, but then he started opening my inventory??? I couldn't even do anything.
Yeah I ran into my first hackers just in regular High Seas this week.
Saw some boat in the distance, then suddenly someone is on the ship and one-blundered both of us.
Tried respawning a few times but we died instantly before the screen even faded in.
They were running streamer mode with a default ship so seemed pretty sus
Just happened to me yesterday, ik the sword jump thing can shoot you pretty far, but this boat was far enough away that even using my telescope i could barley see people or anything. Next thing i know dude is behind me trying to brag about how good they are. No way in hell were they not using cheats
with no other context if not for the obvious esp (given dying before loading in, though if you have long loads, and are talking in game, or have anything out sometimes those load in before you do, and so they just wait for you to appear, but if its consistent idk) i would just assume you got tucked on earlier in the session and they got bored, or the ship funny launched over to you and did this. but more likely cheaters yee
They were newly spawned in port, and we'd just finished a skeleton fleet that we dove to.
And yeah they may not have been cheating just stuck out as real strange.

Yeah, they definitely are. I had the same thing (basically) happen to me while stacking like 700k worth of loot and I get killed. No ships in sight, no people in sight and not even close to any island. While I only lost around 4 hours of my life and people have lost way more, it still sucks.

You can't have a "hardcore PvP game" or whatever they're insistent on pretending this game is - if they can't even be bothered to invest some serious effort into getting rid of cheaters.
yes, anti cheat stopped a lot for a bit and most cheats stopped selling because they had to find a way around it, some of them have started to sell already. sot is going back to being infested with cheaters again.
Eac only affected cheaters shortly they never left they just layed low for while. Eac needs updates because the people who make cheats are basically cracked at coding out anti cheats. In the beginning of anti cheat being introduced i saw no cheaters and my hourglass for example streaks got easly. Teleporting is back, being invisible, instaladder, one time in high seas a guy who was invisible killed me after he in a split second emptied my barrels like i was fighting a fleet one moment i had canonbals food and wood the next second everything was gone and i just saw a floating sword/gun, even saw something i had not seen before was probably new because of the sail/speed update killed a guy in solo hg directly went over his ship and deck shotted to see he was from the ferry turning his wheel to maintain angle. Aimbot, and probably more cheats. The best way to deal with it is to accept they need cheats to beat you that is how bad they are. Rare needs to do update each and not once but frequently in the beginning you could even remove it from the file and play so you would be playing without they eac so.
personally never ran into a cheater myself, but i do indulge in the occasional sponge video of him and nessie shitting on cheaters in HG
I don’t play with PC players for this reason. It’s very rare to come across console players cheating.
Saw a clip here recently showing players teleporting in canons. Keeping canons loaded seemed to prevent them from teleporting.

Me and 3 friend literally had a 2 person Sloop attack us and not only would they not drop when shot in the head with an Eye of Reach, their ship was literally overflowing with water and it wasn't sinking.
Eye of Reach only does 70% damage. Doesn't matter where it hits.
That's information I didn't have. I don't really use it myself so I don't know all the nuances of how it works. I primarily use a pistol.
EAC has been acting up hard the last couple days, been constantly crashing as a result of it. Just a few days before this I saw a grade five reaper galleon soaring across the sky dropping in on people.
Honestly. Might be lag. Games broke. Please stabilize it. They just added a whole platform so I respect there servers might be a bit in shock rn. But we need stability update.
I always try to give them the benefit of the doubt and just think I got outplayed but sometimes it’s so blatant and there’s nothing you can do about it. Had a guy appear on our ship and was shooting us through the deck of the ship even then I was like damn he must be shooting through the grate or something until I went to bucket saw him on the bow shoot the deck and kill my friend underneath with no way he was in LOS.
100% back and worse than ever. They're getting more types of hacks now.Rare refuses to ban them. I've got 2 on my friends list that have been there for over a year and play every day. I have 5+ minute videos of when i ran into them, teleporting loot out of the fof, launching skelly ships into the sun, shitting out all types of items imaginable ( literally shitting them out), names clearly visible, audio of them bragging about what they can do, with numerous videos of them advertising what their cheats can do on their feeds and where to buy them. Sent to rare, numerous times, then told there wasn't enough evidence or their names weren't visible long enough. Rare DOES NOT CARE.
Then you got the non hacking cheaters, using movement exploits. Most of these types are toxic by mouth. Even recording them is useless. Rare refuses to punish them. If they're on xbox, xbox will handle those, Rare will do nothing despite the new BS reporting menu they added for a curtain show. I'm on hiatus from SoT right now. The game is at its end of season dead time, so they're more common than ever because less people are playing.
Just wanted to come in and say that as an avid player of this game since launch, I have yet to run into a single hacker, or at least not an obvious one. I refuse to believe that’s just luck, it’s been over 6 damn years
I was playing with a friend earlier, we approached a Brigantine, and they said they were friendly. So we pulled up close, when one of them teleported onto our boat and started attacking us. Another one joined his friend on our boat and killed both of us, they started shooting canons at us, and one of them started bailing us, we got them killed and started fighting back, we destroyed them. But they were teleporting between boats.
It is almost like they should just allow full progress in safer seas. I swear the cheating has gotten so frustrating that we don’t touch high seas lately. And since safer seas limits us we just play less SoT in general now.
The other night we had a sloop with New and Improved Cannons (TM) attack us. Every time they shot, two cannonballs came out and never missed, starting at very long range. Our masts went down almost instantly it was crazy, and the bilge rat literally could not patch holes as fast as they were being made.
I was fighting another sloop over a FoF. they had the key, but they kept getting sunk by us and could never safely open the door, so they got frustrated and logged off. But before they did they dropped the key somewhere on the fort (I could see the location on the map) but we scanned the fort for 20 minutes and couldnt see the key anywhere.
Is this some kind of exploit?
It's not an exploit but they were salty rubbish losers. There are ways to glitch fort keys - put them in places where they visually disappear from the environment. For FoF and FotD keys it's easier to retrieve them because they're visible on the map. You have to walk around the area where the key is shown and look for a prompt to pick it up - it maybe in a rock, tree, the sand etc. You won't see the key but you will get the prompt eventually if you're persistent.
Just play console. Cheaterfree.
